Every one should know her story. I cannot believe what this woman went through as a student. Where was the heart of the people? My kudos to the Boston teacher who taught her and broke the social conventionalisms. (Puerto Rico is with you )

We can take her message and share it, live it and be it. All change starts with just one step. Ruby had courage. Can we do any less? We can be the example.

Breaks my heart that she went through this and this was not so long ago! Racism really needs to end and we have to raised our kids to not judge a person by the color of their skin. It really does starts at home.

Ruby I read your children’s book “ Through my eyes” and it is there I learned you were on Oprah show with your teacher Mrs Henry. Then I came across this ted talk. Learned a lot from you. Thank you for the stories that teach us to know the history to create better future.

It's sad to realize after all this time that there will never be a coexist or reconciliation between the races. The blame, the pointing the finger, the guilt, the resentment and hostility from the past is far to much to overcome. Listen to her. She is right. The segregation is a product of environment. A life together is not happening.

The schools are still segregated they just have a gifted class in each grade and if you don’t pass the test you don’t get in that class and usually most minorities don’t pass the test so they have classes with the general population

@Mari and Bree Club Many minorities don't even try. However, when they have a good teacher, strong parent or mentor they excel. All it takes is one caring individual which may be lacking in their lives.
