I'm so happy you adopted him great job, he looks joyful now! He has an improved healthy quality of life now and probably will be on this earth longer than he would have if he hadn't been put on his new healthy diet exercise routine!

Theo! He is adorable. Yes, he was severely overweight but you, you both, are his angels. Lots of walks! Good, healthy food! Sassy! Look how good he appears now. Thank you for your kindness, compassion and patience. Love is all that matters. 💗🐾

Yes, that's so frequently the case. If you loved the deceased, who loved their doggo, or cat, or bird, then you'd think they'd give the animal a home....but, you know, sometimes it turns out better for them as in Theo's case. I did this a few times myself and never regretted it for a minute.

Who could not fall totally head over heels in love with Theo?! What a strong little chunk! So proud of his weight loss - and he lucked out with his wonderful hoomans!

Adopting a senior and/or special needs animal companion, as long as you can meet their needs, can be the most rewarding experience in your life. Sometimes with senior dogs their previous owner died or couldn't care for them anymore. And sometimes the animal can appear to be unadoptible because the trauma of being in the shelter freaks them out. It's quite likely the most frightening experience in their lives.

What a great thing you have done, helping this dog get healthy so he can truly enjoy life in his last years. It breaks my heart when i see people who allow their dogs to become obese. It is so hard on them and really prevents them from enjoying their lives, they already dont live long enough. An obese dog dies years earlier and in pain and misery. Please, please, keep your dog at a reasonable weight.

I had a similar experience. I adopted a Chihuahua who was only 3 years old, but weighed 18 lbs! He could barely move. I managed to get him down to 9 lbs, which was the proper weight for him, and he lived to be 16 1/2 yrs old. But, because of his early obesity, he had to suffer through a knee surgery and a very painful slipped disk in his back. I wish people would understand how dangerous and debilitating overfeeding is.

Thank you for helping him. But please do not let him run loose without a harness and lead. To many times I've seen video's and heard stories of hawks sweep down and take off with the dog and coyotes snatch them too. A harness and lead on your wrist can stop save them sometimes.

Hawks sweep down and fly away with dogs and cats.....you might not think they could pick up some dogs that are not that little but they can and do😢😢

It´s amazing what losing weight can do to a mammel (like a human or a dog) ... the entire personality changes. Wow! Thank you for helping him.
