This episode is brilliant. Grantly is initially portrayed as the bitter and grumpy "villain", but it turns out that he is the voice of reason after all. In the end, he becomes the hero of the day. The juxtaposition of this apparent transition with the allegory of Animal Farm is a stroke of genius on the part of the writers.

Love this! Also, I loved the moment back in Series 3 (not sure which ep) when Eddie gifted Rachel a copy of Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment. In the story of Crime and Punishment, the novel's lead character falls in love with an ex-prostitute who did what she did in order to survive ...Now look what's happened! This bit of foreshadowing from the writers actually blew my mind haha, so subtle but so clever!

Two characters with hidden depths in this episode - Grantly for actually seeing through Jem Allen and rescuing a student in danger; and Philip for taking charge of the situation when Grantly had his attack.

The actress who plays jem plays Lorraine donnegan in future series! Who is also one of the reasons why Waterloo road moved to Scotland grrrrr

Kim turning the argument that Chlo should be able to go to a Uni in Bristol/London into a feminist issue is quite pathetic. Chlo moving to London/Bristol will leave Chlo a 4 hour journey away from Donte meaning Donte will have to do all the childcare with no emotional or financial support or even worse he will be 4 hours away from his child if Chlo decides to take the baby with her. Only party at a disadvantage here is clearly Donte so maybe Kim should not be so quick to get involved or judge. I would say the same to an academically gifted guy who impregnated a girl. No parent should be at a Uni 4 hours away from their child that early in their lives, leaving them incapable of supporting the other parent either emotionally or financially.

Except that it *is* a feminist issue, considering Donte is chaining poor Chlo to her unborn baby, not letting her make her own choices or do what she wants; "you are a mother first and foremost"; like all she is is an incubator. No, the only disadvantaged one is Chlo, since she's the one who's pressured and bullied, even guilt-tripped into giving up her future when Donte doesn't. If she puts motherhood first, her future is screwed; if she puts uni first, she's guilt-tripped and slated as a "bad mother" while Donte doesn't face this; he gets the joy of having a son and getting a future; without being guilt-tripped. So yes it is a feminist issue, and kudos to Kim for being the only one to say this.

Grantly is just typical old school but what the hell goes in Jasmine’s mind she just blends in too much with new comers or people who have flashy things but Jem was showing off about the apartment and it wasn’t hers but to trick and fool everyone is shocking and that’s what Eddie did told her to do 1 because of her bullshit

I can totally see Donte's point. Clearly Chlo has the intelligence to go to university to fulfill the potential in life so Donte should be willing to support her in going to Uni by carrying out the bulk of the childcare. However a child needs both parents in their lives and Chlo should not be considering any Uni outside of Manchester/Liverpool area especially London or Bristol which must be about a 4 hour journey from Manchester. I would say the same to an academically gifted guy who impregnated a girl.
