I've watched this video a few times trying to learn how to build a good paludarium for my marbled newts. It sucks that the footage of the barrier build was lost because I think that's the hardest part. But after watching a few times and listening carefully to your recap of it, I feel like I know what to do! I'm so glad you made this video and I can't wait to put together my own setup!!

Looks really good, similar to what I did with my 90 gallon turning into a vivarium which also was a fish tank and is now the home for my amphibians. Interesting, water skinks are viviparous, mating in spring, and giving birth to live young in mid to late summer so no eggs like a garter snake, that's pretty neat. Love this video and what you did to the tank, also it's good seeing you getting back into things please keep more videos coming.

This video got me inspired to build a similar paludarium in the near future. I was always interested in building something where I can combine my 2 hobbies (vivariums + aquascaping). Thank you for putting an idea in my head :D P.S. I would definitely use some springtails in this setup as a clean up crew on the land area. I'm really interested what kind of water creatures you chose to populate the water section. I'm kinda sceptical with skinks + small fish.

Looks good. For drainage in the land area you could drop a piece of 0.5" pvc pipe from the bottom glass to the top of the tank. Cut the portion in the drainage layer at an angle. Then get a toms aqua lifter with the filter attachment and put it on a timer resting on the lid. Thats how i did a 55 gallon terrarium before. The tempered bottom means you can't drill. You could hide the pipe in a cork round. I had mine foamed into the background, but you'd need to tear it apart to do that at this point. Or just a capped pvc pipe you can stick your python tube in. You don't want that drainage layer to hold too much water.

I'm not an expert and I could be wrong but for what it's worth here's my take on the plants. The ferns at 7:41 look to me like Lemon Button Fern. At 8:50 #2 looks like Alocasia 'Tiny Dancers'to me. #3 appears to be a Calathea Orbifolia. #4 looks like a Lady Palm. #1 reminds me strongly of a baby Monstera of some type.
