How to Maintain an Awesome Paludarium

I had to do maintenance on this setup and I knew a lot of you wanted to see that process, so I filmed it. Most of you also wanted to see a dedicated video on it. I didn't intent to do one, but once I got started I realized there was a lot I wanted to discuss.
Since I uploaded the video on this paludarium about three months back, I have consistently received questions about how I maintain it and how to maintain other paludariums. Truth is that they're usually pretty simple, but as I eluded to in the video, every setup is slightly different. You won't completely know what to do until you work with one first hand. What I'm trying to say is that just because you see something work for someone else doesn't mean that it will work for you. Even minor differences can changes everything. That said, videos like this can give you a good idea of where to begin and a lot of resources for your tool box.
Now I don't say any of that to discourage you from starting. In fact I encourage you if this is something you want to do. My main thing is that you will learn much better by doing research and through trial and error than copying what others do, expecting success.
Anyways, this paludarium is doing great! I'm really enjoying it and can't wait to see it continue to flourish. Something I didn't mention in the video is that I bought a variety of other botanicals that I will be adding to the water feature that I know you're going to love! So stay tuned for that. As for plants I don't know when I'll add more.
More on this one in the future, but I've talked enough. Enjoy the video and let me know what you think down in the comment!

Sorry an hour late on this one, but it's up now! Sometimes it takes me longer to get the thumbnail and description put together. Anyways for those of you have been asking, hopefully this is exactly what you were looking for. It's not hard to maintain this stuff, just be patient! Thank you for the video. I really appreciate you and your channel. My mom actually came over to my place a couple of months ago and saw one of your videos, she was fascinated. She has sense started her own terrarium. It's the first thing I've seen her passionate about in a long time :) She's on disability and doesn't get out of the house much, now she's going to yard sales, flea markets, the forest, all due to her new hobby. Thank you so much for the inspiration.

If you fixed a camera on this paludarium, I could watch it all day. Seeing the snails creep over the botanicals, the little fish and the toads moving, watching the waterfall are all very relaxing. I think you should make a long video like that with no talking, just music and different camera setups. It would be so ambient!

Ok! So I don't know if you've seen my comments, but I'm a pretty new subscriber. I have had a palidarium running since 2006/7. It houses a whites tree frog and four fire belly toads that are a bit older than the set up. I wanted to remodel the set up to be more natural and followed this palidarium video (well your building of it video). OMG!!! I started the build a while back, but just got the guys back in. A week later they laid eggs! They haven't laid eggs in a very long time. I think they are very very happy with their new home. Thank you for your awesome content! Keep it up. My herps are grateful!

That was excellent thank you. I enjoy botanicals more than fish I think. I have a 33L fairly vertical tank. Not sure if I mentioned this on your channel yet, I'm building a Bio Active Tropical Paludarium out of an old Large Tv Stand. Just got my acrylic front framed and glued in a few days ago along with my leak testing complete. It'll have two sliding glass top halves. I enjoy all of your builds and vids, great content. Quick question, I'm just going to be using sand for subrtate on the water feature with maybe a few leaves thrown in. Im going to have some water plants as well. The water feature will have a home made canister filter using a 5 gal bucket, Bio Media and a good pump. All that being said, how often would you recommend water changes and cleaning on a setup like that?

Does the reptofilter provide adequate filtration for the fish waste? I’ve been inspired by your videos and going to try to build a paludarium. I’ve read that if you keep fish in your paludarium, you’ll need a filter. Wondering if the aquatic plants use up the waste so you don’t need a filter/sump. Do you have to do water changes? You say bc it’s a closed system it’s a good idea to get rid of extra waste. If I don’t use botanicals in the water, will water changes/cleaning be necessary? Another awesome vid. Thank you for making and sharing!
