Is there a type of moss you would add to this list?

Fern moss, please. I have a lot growing in my area, and pretty much the only moss that grows here. I would like to see how it grows or how to be able to utilize it for terrariums.

I'm sure there's been tons of ppl that have said that. Ben, I'm new to terrariums....but iike the familiar face.
Personally a big fan of Unidentified Random Moss I found on the ground outside by a pond, and Unidentified Random Moss #2 that started growing spontaneously in the greenhouse. I hope they'll be happy in the terrarium I made...
I'm surprised that hypnum, sphagnum, and badge moss didn't make an appearance. Sphagnum is an icon of all horticulture, live or dead, and hypnum and badge are among the most common wild mosses, and in my experience are the most adaptable. Even thread moss is remarkably hardy and common. Fern moss, while less common, is incredibly iconic, and known to be an easy terrarium option.
I am beggining in the world of terrariums...and your videos are really helping me to understand every little thing.....thanks!!!
I find 'greater fork moss' on forest hikes, and i do use it.

Please do a video on how you store or propagate your moss
Very inspiring, thanks for showing this awesome video it helps me improve of my moss garden and other sort of things.
I’m a beginner starting my mom’s journey and you are a great help good work
Love your vids. great stuff !!👍👍👍
Love your tutorial! Love your voice!
Bun moss is my absolute go to. I've used sheet mode a little too but it's finicky and takes a lot of cleaning up before I can use it! I've used aquatic mosses when aquascaping but am always concerned I won't have enough humidity to use in my terrariums. I'm definitely going to try some of the others on your list though.
Thanks for sharing the link bought a sample already 😀
Beautiful!
Yay so excited for this

I find tons of moss in greenhouse floors and ask to pick it. Others i find growing off trees near water sources like big fancy fountains.
Thank you for the recommendations which is very helpful. Do you have any advice to prevent mould?
Hola seria interesante tambien saber que temperaturas aguanta cada uno. donde hay un video donde explicas el sustrato? para propagacion?
Thank you for this video, it was very informative. How do you store unused moss? Do you have a video explaining that?. Thnx
You were a great actor!!
I’m a little uncertain about the Java Moss - how do you actually achieve the high humidity AND air flow? Do you expose the terrarium to airflow periodically? If so, how often would you recommend? Love your videos!
It's a great video. Thank you very much sir..... Just one thing I want to know that what is the best temperature settings for growing moss??
I have a bioactive boa enclosure and the approach I took was grabbing a bunch of what I think is common feathermoss from my local park and stuck it in various places around the enclosure. Where it dies I will remove it. Where it lives I will water it. I just wish I had more types available but there seems to be very little in my area.
amazing dear ben🤩👌💯

Hello @WorcesterTerrariums I am a big fan of your work. Quick question: what is the name of the website where you said we could get the terrestrial mosses worldwide?
Hello and good day. I am working on setting up a bio enclosure for a terrestrial tarantula, I'm considering using Polytrichum juniperinum moss and was wondering if you had any experience. I'm also going to check out the pincushion moss you suggest.
Hi Ben Your terrariums are wonderful. I have made a few. They are in a conservatory. Do you think they need LED Light. Thanks Louise
Thanks for the tips. I want to start making these as gifts. You look so happy with your moss and awesome you know all the names. Also, you look mixed asian to me!

Have a question: Is pyrrhobryum dozyanum easy to care for? Happy in regular terrarium mix or wrapped in moist sphagnum moss?
Great video! Can you tell me what the vine looking plant is called at 10:33? Thanks!
@WorcesterTerrariums Hello! What are the plants at 9:17 that are surrounding the moss, with the rings on their stems? And do they need to be grown in water? Thanks for all the videos, they've been very helpful and relaxing, even, cheers!
Multiple Decades ago I created and failed many a terrarium. Now after I have found you I have three successful ones but they are all different. You taught me not to use soil (although one of mine has some ) and you taught me not to worry about roots, just place on top and they grow. That light and fresh air are key. So many things I have learned these past 6 months! Only problem I have are gnats and I have no netting for the top. I purchased 2 little aquariums and want to go soilless

thanks. I'm having a hard time finding a type of moss to grow as companion with potted plants. I tried many types but no success. any advice here? thanks
Do you leave your LED grow lights on 24/7?
I bought a bonsai tree and collected some moss on a rock when I was on a hike and brought it back. It’s the Rock cap miss I believe and I hope it does well for my bonsai. I’m not sure because I found it on a rock and not soil and I’m no a nature expert or anything.

I know we are told to not harvest wild moss. But, my apartment manager said that the landscape company is going to kill the moss on the property. Since the plan is to kill it, can I ethically harvest some?
That little bottle at 8:40 is adorable. It is an empty ink bottle?
What a nice and informative video! I have a question if I may. I've recently bought a large box of Leucobryum Glaucum, for my frog vivarium. I was wondering how you ensure that no bugs are introduced to the terrarium/vivarium, since mosses often carry hitchhikers. I currently have the moss (and all the other plants) in quarantine (for 4-8 weeks) before I will use them. I do not want to use any chemicals because of the frogs, as they are hyper sensitive. What I have done is to thoroughly rinse the moss in water (room temperature) and submerged the moss for 20 minutes before draining it and leaving it in its (nearly) airtight quarantine box, with access to natural light (no direct sun). All soil is removed as well. For misting I use dechlorinated water meant for the frogs. I am considering investing in a water purifier as well. The water here in the Netherlands is very hard, like in Great Britain. Would you say the routine I have with the moss and plants is sufficient to remove bugs, or do I need to make additional steps?

What serpadesign does is, that he puts The Moss in water rinses, then into another bowl of water, rinses, and so On until theres nothing left other than The Moss itself. This Will also remove dirt

You can search 'sterilize/quarantine moss for terrariums'. There are quite a few sites and probably YT videos as well.
What about Star Moss ( Tortulla Ruralis)? Seems like this could be a very nice terrarium moss also.
How do you maintain "good Airflow" in an enclosed terrarium? Thanks!

Usually by taking cover or lid off for a few minutes every few days. Online sources vary as to how long and how often. You can buy acyrilic lids with or without small holes in them online to cover jars or bottles. Moss terrariums don't necessarily have to be covered, but it does help keep humidity higher when you do.
Sir, can you tell me that, if boiled, cool water is good for moss?
Where do you buy the moss? Or is it easy to find outdoors?
Do you dig it in like a plant or simply lay moss over dirt
Were are the links your talking about i dont see them
I wonder if you’ve read The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert? Love that book. Moss reminds me of that book. It’s fiction.
Hmmm. Moss doesn't like hard water you say? Maybe that's why I'm having such a difficult time with it in my guppy tank? My tap water is close to distilled, and I add minerals for the livebearers. Looking to set up my old aquarium as a terrarium, and currently researching plants.
Waiiittt... What kind of fertilizer do I use???
I want to put a cute little moss dish in my bathroom it has no windows but it has a skylight on the ceiling would a skylight be enough light?
00:00 🌿 Moss enhances terrariums by adding depth and visual appeal. 01:48 💡 Terrestrial and aquatic mosses have different requirements but both contribute to terrarium aesthetics. 02:22 🌿 Mood moss is easy to plant and covers large areas quickly, suitable for both small and large terrariums. 03:26 🌱 Dichranomarges greater fork moss adds height and texture, requiring minimal preparation before planting. 04:28 🌿 Lukovium glorcum pincushion moss thrives in terrariums with minimal maintenance, ideal for beginners. 06:06 🌱 Polytrichum formosum bankhair moss is visually striking but requires experimentation for optimal growth. 07:04 🌿 Niamh hornum spear moss maintains vibrant color and contrasts well with other mosses, adding visual interest. 08:00 🌱 Iridium tamariscanum tamarisk moss, with its feather-like texture, enhances terrariums with a sense of scale. 09:02 🌊 Aquatic mosses like taxiphyllum barbieri java moss and vesicularia derbiana Christmas moss provide ground cover and are easy to maintain with proper airflow and humidity.
A good place in the us is tnnursery for bulk moss

How do you clean up the glass after spraying water? Doesnt uncleaned water leave water marks?...or worst still all foggy inside the closed bottle! If you have more than one terrariums wouldnt the whole day will go watering and cleaning (however way you do it)? Subscribed your channel. One the way to building my first landscape. Looking forward to learn from you. Thanks

Easist is to use a spatula to push all water off sides of glass down towards the bottom (like you'd squeegee your shower after using it), and then using paper towels or small washcloth to clean off the rest.
