Water demonstrations part three--Fountain in a bottle // Homemade Science with Bruce Yeany
A simple fountain can be made inside two soda bottles that spurts and bubbles every time you turn it over. This can be made using a commercially made device called a fountain connection or it can be made using two soda bottle caps, some tape and a couple soda straw.

Bruce Yeany you inspire me so much in the science and engineering field!
I wish I had this teacher he makes me want to question everything and it’s actually interesting
You are a great educator, thank you for sharing these experiments
I REMEMBER PLAYING WITH THESE AS A KID! Goodness, this brings back so many sweet memories.
I will definitely come back and see you again Bruce! Fantastic videos sir!
Thank you for science lesson today teacher 👍
we need more teachers like you. Thank you
i wish i had a teacher like you growing up wish you the best love the videos
If only all teachers could make learning fun, you deserve a medal, as does my math teacher in final year, Mr Thompson.
Awesome video, glad to see you in good health.
The experiment which I read in my childhood time, at that time I wondered and saw it like myth in book. Just today found the working principle and construction of it.(Bernoulli's Principle isn't it) Happy today thank you for making this video and the explanation in your style is very good no words say just simply awesome.
These are my favourite science videos!!! So much fun!! 💖💫💓
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. As a physics teacher, I really appreciate it. Greetings from Veracruz, México

Nicely done, my hopes in posting is hoping is that others try some of the same experiments. thank you for sharing your versions of this and the paint spinner
I just love these fountains! Hope you are doing well, Bruce.
Awesome as always, I want to use these concepts to make a garden fountain or something
Bruce you are a gem.

This concept would be great to make a coldbrew coffee maker. The simplest DIY method for that is put coffee into water and let it set for hours. Is there a way to add a central reservoir for the coffee? Would the standard hero fountain maybe be easier to operate and maintain for coffee brewing purposes? I'm forming an idea as I write this.
thank you so much for the video!
I would like to see a video exploring sound. In particular why slapping a yardstick on a desk, popping balloons, an exploding firecracker etc. creates loud sounds. I already know answers but I enjoy your approach to explaining them.

Thank you!
I guess the reason those holes suck water to make a fountain in upper bottle is because of Bernoulli's principle. When the air passes through the tube upwards with high speed the pressure in tube is low because of high speed, so some water gets sucked in. The reverse happens in the tube below and it sucks air in the tube where water is going down with high speed so it has bubbles. Am I right @Bruce ? ,
Put bubble liquid in it and watch the show.
Could you calibrate this to make it like a perfect 30 seconds or something like that? and with a shape of a sand clock this would be a very unique water fountain clock

Does anyone know what industrial process equipment utilizes this phenomenon? I’m sure there are plenty. But at the moment, I cannot think of one.

Hello, it's nice to hear from someone from Turkey
I tried this last night because I think my 6yo would love it and I couldn't get it to work! The water drained into the bottom bottle, but instead of creating a fountain, what happened was the air from the bottom bottle built up until it did a single big bubble out of the little holes in the bottom of the top tube, which then repeated until everything was drained. I fiddled with all the variables, and got a slight improvement and some intermittent fountaining out of the top by shortening the tubes and starting the bottom bottle off with much more water, but nothing like yours here! Where might I be going wrong? The only thing I can think of is that the tube I had available was really narrow compared to yours - just 4mm. Could it only work if the holes are much smaller than the tube diameter? Or are the tube lengths more important? I will try to find a wider tube and give that a go.

I would say try it with the bigger tubes or use drinking straws, they work well

Is it possible to bring the flow of liquid in equilibrium. Can we make it perpetual.
@Tfaonc
5 жыл бұрын
No. There is no water flowing up from the lower bottle to counter the downward flow. And there cannot be either. The energy for this comes from gravity, net flow has to be down.
@d3str0i3r
5 жыл бұрын
@@Tfaonc not entirely true, if you build it to have just one tube that reaches the top of the upper bottle and the bottom of the lower bottle, pressure should continually be higher in the lower bottle, pushing water up the tube and into the upper bottle, like a heron's fountain this would, of course, require some playing around with levels in each bottle, and a one-way valve might improve how it works of course things don't always work the way they do on paper, so who knows, the only way to know is to try
Isn't there a kind of water pump that uses this? I think it uses a large amount of water falling a short distance to pump a small amount of water (with bubbles) up a large distance.
@hammachine
3 жыл бұрын
I may be mistaken, but is that called a ram pump? Came across it a few years back.
wonder what would happen if you put mentos in the bottom bottle and sprite in the upper bottle?
Hi can you make it a continuous water fountain, where as it will never stop coming out of the top straw unless you remove the 2 bottles.

What a legend
How long it works ???
@Bruce Yeany, will two bottle fountain stop if upper bottle is half way full and bottom completely full to near to full? Will atmospheric air pressure from top bottle push the water up from bottom bottle to make it non stop fountain? Would be nice to inject this fountain jet onto PELTON turbine.

once all the air in the lower bottle is replaced, the bottom bottle is then full of water andthe fountain will stop in the upper bottle

What would happen if you didn't have the holes in the straws? Just a regular fountain without the bubbling effect?
@YeanyScience
3 жыл бұрын
no fountain forms without the holes, the holes allow the water into the straw and then gets carried upwards by the air flow
what kind of tubing are you using in this montage?
@YeanyScience

In making the fountain inside the bottle, I used rigid plastic tubing that is 5/16 in diameter but this can be made with regular drinking straws

What if I install a hydraulic generator at the fountain, does that mean I can get eternal electric power supply?
if we don't make holes in the tubes then do we get a fountain???

correct, the holes are needed to get water into the tubes
