Barbie from Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling comes out today so we decided to react to another Barbie film. Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper. Jack, Kor and Eden from Spilling The Milk really enjoyed their time watching this weird unhinged ugly show. It is a musical and songs like I'm Just like You are straight up just good and catchy. Annaelise and Erika are estranged white women, princess and slave.

When the title says "Barbie as" it means she's playing a character. Her name won't be Barbie in the movie. Barbie has a huge acting career, which is one of the reasons why she can be whatever she wants. Other times, she's just a girl boss and does whatever career she wants.

12 Dancing Princesses and Fairytopia are must-watches if you guys are gonna delve deeper into the Barbie-verse, which is absolutely already a thing. Several of the movies acknowledge other films and one or two of them are directly linked. Like one of the surfer mermaid movies is tied into another film, which shows that the mermaid movie was actually just a movie Barbie herself starred in. It's wild.

This movie doesn't help her point of "I'm so rich it hurts", but that whole Britney fiasco last year kinda made me realise that some wealthy people do have problems. I mean for Gal Gadot it's being forced to stay inside as a desperate extrovert then singing Imagine on Twitter for any sense of social interaction, but in Britney's case it was actual parental abuse for 20 odd years.

yeah just because you have a wealthy family, doesn't mean you have a healthy family. it might not always happen, but often the children of wealthy people are treated like bargaining chips, or they straight up refuse to let them have their own interests and will control their future. child celebrities often end up pretty screwed up because the nature of Hollywood warping their sense of normal, and their own parents will take advantage of the money and leave the kid with nothing (there's apparently a law to prevent this from happening but it still happens, as it happened jennette mccurdy)

I legit love all the Barbie movies. No lie. I watched most of them growing up. They dropped in quality around 2015. The best one is Barbie and the Three Musketeers. In my opinion. Also, at the end of this movie, there are clips of the characters going through bloopers. As in, this entire movie IS A MOVIE. Edit: I think it started dropping in 2013, actually, not 2015. I think most notably with Princess Charm School. There are some good ones in this era still, but the quality was still lacking. (This is an opinion) Edit Edit: I love it when people immediately criticize the first song (second?), "Just Like Me." When she says, 'You're just like me', after being told about the life of a princess. Like, the lyrics right after that say, "There's somewhere else we'd rather be." Not the fact that their lives are hard. It's that they don't like their lives and want to be free. That was also stated in the very beginning, "What would it be like to be free?"

The newer ones, looking back on it, from 2013 and forward dropped on quality (in terms of story). The music is good still, but at some point, I lost interest in stories and characters. Really? I found Musketeers to be the cutoff between old and good Barbie vs modern and not so good barbie. It was the last movie imo with the same essence as the older ones, but something about the faint stylistic changes in the faces, the themes and music, and most of all the blinding monochrome outfits they had. I really disliked those as a child, to me they were an assault on the eyes. The movies before that used bright colors skillfully with a good balance, this one imo started the trend with the obscene neon tones

The one thing I remember about Barbie is that she was voiced by Kelly Sheridan, who voices Starlight Glimmer on MLP. She was a freaking sociopath before AND after her heel-face turn.

And the Monster High webisodes. I have found that people who review the MH movies without seeing the webisodes first tend to be very confused since they don't know the characters. And maybe Ever After High too. The story for that is actually really good.

I loved the barbie movies so much as a kid! You must now watch Barbie and The Diamond Castle (one of my favs), in which two cottagecore lesbians( There is a literal scene where they ride away on a rainbow and they don't fall in love with the male characters in the movie, which you'll rarely see happen in other barbie movies except a select few) are forced to save the world with the power of love and music.

The animation is so nostalgic to me, I mean it's y2k, what do you expect? The music is fantastic and I love that most barbie movies focus on ballet and classical music. I love the classic barbie music because they show that there is strength in femininity. The portray femininity in a positive light and don't tell little girls that they have to be masculine to be cool and brave.
