TRIUMPH TIGER 850 SPORT Vs TIGER 900 - SIDE BY SIDE - RAW TEST RIDES
-- SORRY ABOUT THE POOR AUDIO QUALITY, I WILL TRY TO IMPROVE THIS FOR FUTURE VIDEOS! --
CONCLUSION
I didn't want to interrupt the video with my thoughts/opinions, as it is a 'raw ride' video. In conclusion, the Tiger 850 Sport is a very impressive bike for the money and certainly takes a lot from its bigger brother. However, you can tell that the 850 has been striped back, paired back and cost savings made. This hasn't detrimentally affected the quality of the bike, but as soon as you ride a 900, you realise just how much potential there is in this chassis and engine. Ultimately, the 900 is the bike it was designed to be, the 850 is, unfortunately, a cheaper version of it. Yes the 900 is considerably more money, but in my opinion, it is worth it. If I was going to buy either, I'd pay the extra. You'll only save the money once, you'll ride the bike everyday and I couldn't live with knowing I'd made that compromise.

Hi Tim - you nailed it ! Really good comparison to follow up from your raw ride edition. Love the teeshirt too. So much information , excellent. At 5'7" I am narrowing my search of bike to not only the style/type of bike but also to those that are not over 810mm seat height so these bikes 'fit' me. Onwards and upwards matey, look forward to all future reviews of yours.

Thank you Paul. Last thing I want to do is disappoint any viewers and I'm always open to developing my channel and content. Maybe the 900 GT Low would suit you, with it 760-780mm seat height? www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/adventure/tiger-900-gt/gt-low I don't work for or with Triumph, so take it for what its worth, just one mans opinion to another 🙂

I owned a 900 GT for a short time before being hit by a careless driver. I decided on the 850 when all was settled and I could get another bike. Honestly, having ridden both I feel like the 850 is a better bike. Suspension is very well sorted and although not fully adjustable, Triumph got it right. The bike has a great torque curve and just feels more fun when riding. Added an Arrow slip on and that sound is addicting! I ride with Givi Trekker cases loaded with all kinds of gear and haven't had any issues on smooth or rough roads. To each his own but I prefer less complication and gadgetry on a bike. Been riding since I was 14yr and now I'm 69yr so I know that has a lot to do with what I appreciate in a bike. To each his own when picking and enjoying the ride. I do like what Triumph has done and who cares what it's called as long as you have fun on it. BTW, seems like a lot of the 900 owners have been having issues with the quick shifter. More gadgets to go wrong.

Great to hear your thoughts and experiences Thumper! There is something to be said for a striped back, simple bike, however my experience of the 850 is it is cheaper, cost-cut-back version of the 900 rather than a dedicated, simple adventure bike. If it was at a lower price point, I think I’d look more favourably on it, but right now, it sits in the shadow of the 900 which IMO is the better bike. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the 850, its a good bike, but the 900 is a great one and they are so close in so many ways, I’d go 900 every day. That said, I went and bought an old 2005 BMW R1200 GS after my rides on the Triumph so I can appreciate a simple bike, and the 900 - like the current R1250 - is packed with gadgets. The video of the 1200 is on my channel if you are interested. Happy, safe riding Thumper!

@@OurTimyour reply has no logic. Of course the 900 will feel more substantial because of the electronic add ons, the adjustable suspension that no one knows how to setup, bigger display (big deal)etc. To some, this is all fluff. With aftermarket cruise control now out for the 850, add heated grips from Triumph, better oem tires than the 900 and the $3-4K savings makes the 900 purchase downright dumb. The 850 also is the better looking styled bike.

I owned a Tiger 800 XCX and covered 14000 miles in 18 months, fab bike but to twitchy and unnecessarily high tec, just ordered an 850 Sport which in my opinion is a better value for money bike for what I want.

I’ve just bought a 850 sport in this years colour baha orange, I just got it before the price increase, triumph have put them up by £300. I love it as it is not loaded with tech it’s one of those do anything bikes plenty of power and a superb ride, anyone thinking about one try and get a test ride I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

What you say about the 850 being an “incomplete motorcycle” because it doesn't have a couple of accessories sounds false and subjective. Rather, it's that you like gadgets that we don't necessarily all like.

I didn't catch which 900 was compared with the 850 Sport here but going by the fork tops I'd say it's the GT? This is my conundrum as the GT, to me, is the sweet spot in the range as a bang for buck package. But, and it's a big but, the 850 is more appropriate for what I do and where I ride most of the time. Yorkshire Dales. The big question for me is depreciation as the 850 may be perceived as a lesser bike with values reflecting this perception...Great comparison!

The 900 feels like the bike the 850 wants to be. All the little ‘shortcuts’ are gone, but obviously you’ll be paying the price for those nice bits. It’s worth testing it, back to back with the 850 if you can. And then try another bike from another brand. I loved the 1250GS but that is a different league of bike and price. The best advice I got when looking for a bike - try as many as you can as close together as possible and go back to any you think you might like for another ride. You’ll know the right bike for you when you ride it

Quite agree. I am picking up my 900 gt pro tomorrow. I feel they missed a chance with the 850. Calling it a sport is not right. Should have actually been a more sports oriented bike to rival the Yamaha tracer and had more power, not less.

Not long left now Chris, please do let me know how you get on with it as I'm thinking of a 900 myself. For me, the 850 just feels incomplete, like the engineering team were given a brief of getting the 900 down to £9k, rather than say designing a 'Tiger 850 Sport', as I'm sure they were told with the 900 originally. Don't get me wrong, the 850 is a good bike for the money, but the 900 is a great one.

@@OurTim had the bike for 2 weeks now and love it. Fitted givi outback topbox and panniers in black to match the black bike. Extenda fender and hugger also fitted. My partner says she finds the bike more comfortable than the 800 xrx tiger and it is a lot easier pushing a button to get the suspension setup correctly. Engine sound is more throaty than the 800 but still good engine breaking. Led lights are greatand the quick shifter amazing. All in all a smoother ride and a good upgrade after 5 years with the 800. If it stays rust free after all year round riding like the 800, I will be very pleased. Good luck in your choices.

Utter nonsense in my opinion , the 850 is perfectly good and in some respects better...... Heated grips 😂😂... Fit your own... Peanuts.... Handguards 😂😂fit your own peanuts..... The detuned engine is actually smoother. Same brakes, same tyres..... Better paint scheme..... Keep your money and get the 850..... This comparison thing is pointless really...... Its a nice bike..... Better value certainly than the 900.... How long is a bit of string?
