Triumph Tiger 850 Sport Review. Is this THE ultimate all-round Adventure Motorcycle? Big revelation!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We review the new Triumph Tiger 850 Sport Adventure Motorbike!
This Adventure Bike from Triumph is marketed as a road focused bike but can it go off road? We find out.
We look at everything, including, handling, engine, gearbox, clutch, suspension, brakes, seat height, fuel economy, tank, ergonomics, and styling. Is it the bike for YOU? Watch to find out.
In this video the Ol' Man makes a startling revelation!
Filmed in the beautiful North Welsh countryside we put the motorcycle through its paces to find out how good it is. For full specifications please visit the Triumph website in your country.
Is the triple cylinder engine powerful enough? How much torque does it produce and would it be any good on an A2 licence? We tell you how it is!

I own a 900GT. Having grown up during the golden age of motorcycling in the 60s and 70s, I agree on the styling. Still, I love dirt bike ergonomics on a big street bike, and I love this Tiger! You Brits can’t be beat for sports cars, bikes, and double guns.

Great! There are many styling aspects of the bike that are very nice indeed, but the general ‘adventure bike’ appendages and frame could look so much better with a complete redesign

So glad you "get" these ADV bikes now - it's their all-purpose nature that makes them so appealing to me for sure - loved the Tiger 850 Sport, I suspect I recently had this very bike in my garage, hugely under rated in my opinion. Loved the video! All the best - Andy.

Got one and I'm completely happy. I am 166 cm, 66 kg and am not too bothered by the seat height & weight. Since Iam 71 now, I may consider a low seat option just for convenience. But other than that, I think you got everything spot on! Thanks foe this very sensibly put together vidgo.

Like yourself I have not seen the point of adventure bikes, but having a Harley that I like to preserve from the salt in the winter, and a farm I need to get round regularly I started studying their viability. One name kept coming up in reviews, the Yamaha Tenere 700.What a bike, does everything an enduro can do,but also flies down a motorwayAt a lot less money than the Triumph 850,with much better off road capability, and being by far the best looking adventure bike, was my first choice.Couldn’t be happier.

Adventure bikes are really the "Chelsea Tractors" of the bike world, they still retain a degree of off road capability for an occasional foray off tarmac but their forte is on road practicality. A combination of good luggage carrying capacity and relaxed, comfortable riding position with rider friendly power delivery. I haven't seen an adventure bike yet that I'd call a "looker" (unlike my Street Scrambler❤️) but it's obvious why they sell so well.

Like you, until fairly recently I didn't get the point. Then I bought a Tiger 900 on an impulse. Now I get it. Best money I ever spent. BTW, seat heights are a little misleading and shouldn't put people off from going to a dealer and actually sitting on a bike that (on paper) may seem a little high for them. I'm 5'6" with a 30 in inseam, weigh 160 pounds and, because the seat is narrow, I can almost flatfoot the bike with the seat in the high position.

Great review sir, I myself am looking at something like this to replace my Gsxs1000 as I no longer need a screaming 1000cc rocket and there arent many bikes like this catering for the shorter 30" legs. Makes me really think about an adventure bike as apposed to my CB1100. I love the look of my CB1100, with all the chrome and classic design, but it’s that versatility and lower weight you’ve highlighted that gets me thinking. I way prefer a gravel pedal cycle way above my racing road cycle, gets you to places the road cycle can’t. Like you say, if only the design of adventure bikes were more retro, nearest thing I suppose is the Moto Guzzi TT85. Your video has certainly got me thinking !!!

Love the Tiger always, ADVs are pretty useful handy tools to have as a go anywhere on 2 wheels solution. Personally have a Kawasaki Versys 650 for the past 5yrs and plan to keep it for a while more, you should try it. Old school tractor of an engine with only ABS available in the electronics department and a punchy torquey low end. No Traction Control, Riders Modes, etc etc to deal with, Twist & Go bike in the purest sense. Howdy from Mumbai, India. Cheers mate.

Still a bit heavy compared to the KTM 690 though (weight of the extra cylinder) and you’d need to change those tyres for anything serious off-road; TET, Spanish sandy tracks or French gloopy mud! Its $12,000 in the US but adding the center stand, decent skip plate, crash bars, heated grips, Barkbuster handguards, and side panniers tacks on close to $2,100. Given the engine, Brembo's, and decent Anakee Adventure tires, this appears to be a great overall ADV package but $14,100 is a bit of a hurtle to jump over for a road focused ADV bike with light off road capabilities. I like the blue better than the red.

I 100% agree about what he said in terms of power. I just wish triumph wasn't so expensive, I mean I get it's more expensive in my country than it is in yours, but still. In my opinion trying if it's one of the few British vehicles that you can count on not to break down constantly, well one of the few modern ones. Range rovers on the side of the road all the time here. Jeeps too but I think that has more to do with everyone tries to go "overlanding" now, I don't understand how payloads work. Cuz these Jeeps always look smushed. But honestly back to subject that's a really great looking bike and he was 100% correct you do not need that kind of power that you see everyone riding around on. I have a friend who goes on a 700s cc out in the Rockies all the time. If it's enough for the the Rockies it's enough for everywhere. I don't even like driving through them in a car, they scare hell out of me.

I agree that dials look better, but I find a digital speedo is so much better to read at a glance, I have bikes with both , on my TT1200 I occasionally have to look twice to take in what speed I’m doing, on my RRV Fireblade it’s a nightmare, the numbers on the dial are tiny and the domed lense mainly reflects my hi vis!, in fact eventually I fitted a digital mountain bike speedo under the clocks so I can now read my speed at a glance, the only problem is it stops reading at 130mph, strange that the designer of that little unit thought it would need to read that high!!

Hi Having recently test ridden a Triumph Tiger 850 sports & had its features demonstrated i think i know why the seat kept dropping down. You had the rod on the seat seat for the lowest setting but the tried to engage the top "tab" on the tank so when you sat on the seat it dropped out. So you have been riding with the seat on low setting on the front with the seat not locking into place at least after you messed with it! Which calls into place your comments about height. Stay Safe

Triumph apparently set the power peramitters of the 900 Tiger so as to confirm with the A2 licence when restricted. To then come out with a reduced cc bike which conforms to the same remit, begs one to ask " why not have given the 900 a bit more poke"? I seriously considered buying one, faced with the usual Rally or GT dilemma but as an adventure bike you'd expect it's two up fully loaded capabilities to be a bit more accomodating?

@@sebastiangeorge7714 Yes it does have a reasonable payload but it also lacks a bit of top end grunt and is reported to be a bit viby at cruising speeds. I just felt I needed something with a bit more stamina, say for overtaking when fully loaded at motorway speeds. Whereas it's bigger brother offers that but is a bit top heavy. I settled in the end for the Tiger 1050 Sport, which was more suited to my needs. Somehow I never really gelled with that, again it was quite top heavy, so I traded it for a Yamaha FZ1-S Custom. It doesn't really have the touring/ luggage capability but it's so much more fun and balanced. I've since bought a Kawasaki ZZR 1400 ( ZX14), which will tour with all day comfort and I'll never be capable of unleashing all of its power but it's great to know it's there.
