So much misinformation in this video! The 3.7 replaced the base 3.5 non ecoboost as the standard motor in 14-15. The 3.5 Ecoboost is still available. I drive one with an Ecoboost and there is no lag, that's why it's a twin turbo. The only real problems we have with them is the water pumps go down around 90k but that effects all three engine choices. Never had one Issue with transmissions. Some of them smoked due to early problems with the PVC system, but that was remedied in a TSB. This Video is just bad!

Can't be lookin' a mess in my car. No food or drink allowed and no smokin either. Leather seats and a platinum paint job. I have every kind of insurance you can think of on her, I don't play. Too lazy to look everything up but there seems to be several incorrect things in this video... 1) There is no 2010-2012 Taurus Interceptor. They started with the 2013 refresh. 2) The Falcon was discontinued like 2 years ago. They don't make them anymore so the Taurus outlived it... 3) Pretty sure the 3.7 always came with AWD standard. The 3.5l Duratec was FWD. There's probably more things but I skipped most of the video.

tell people about the Waterpump issues with the 3.5 AND the 3.7....its a 2500+++ job at the dealer, and that's only if you didn't blow the engine when the INTERNAL Waterpump lets go and dumps anti-freeze into the oil,in mass...that's why you can get a Taurus, and Exploder,I mean Explorer cheap, that's why most departments don't run them 60- 90k or so.I was at a Auction,in Maine, and found a repair receipt from Quirk Ford of Maine for 5170.00,for heads, and waterpump, timing chain !! they sent it through the auction 2k miles later! and I like Fords,I'm not hating, just spreading the word...so IF you buy one of these poorly designed loads, get ready for the Waterpump, timing chain,etc...I'm sticking with a rust free Crown Vic,or better yet,a well maintained Hemi Charger, even.Good luck, guys

When I bought my last car, I wanted to get an ex police vehicle due to many reasons, just a couple being the maintenance always done on them, the heavy duty parts, and I love the way they look. I had to make a decision between a charger, impala, taurus, or crown vic. I ended up going with the crown vic because I love the way they look, I am 6'5 so I wanted something roomy, they are super comfortable, and I wanted a v8 as well. It is a 2008, I have put over 35k miles on it, have not had one issue with it. Gas mileage isn't amazing I mean its a v8 & the car weighs over 4000 pounds but its not horrible either. I drive pretty heavy footed most of the time and a decent bit of city driving - I normally average around 18-19 mpg. I love the fact that on the highway I can haul ass in the left lane, every single car gets over once I get behind them LOL (I still have the pushbar / spotlight on my car.) The AC in this thing will freeze me out even though where I live it frequently hits over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. It is not the fastest car for sure, but I love the way the v8 sounds & it has enough power for me. I had a luxury vehicle before the vic (leather heated/cooled seats, sunroof, GPS navigation, push button start, etc) but honestly I just love the simplicity of my vic & the fact that it is so easy to work on. I plan on keeping this car for years to come and have never once regretted buying it!

As much as I love the Taurus and as heartbroken as I am for its discontinuation, I was even more heartbroken at the discontinuation of the Crown Vic. I think if they replaced the 4.6L 2V modular in the Crown Vic with the 3.7L V-6 and 6-speed auto, and gave the option for the 5.0L V-8, it would still be a solid car. Throw in AWD if the Panther platform could take it and you're golden. But it's too late for that now though. And I also agree about the Aussie Ford Falcon. We can't have nice things...

I would not normally buy a Chevy, other than vintage. Meaning back when they had carburetors. But this was an unusual situation. It was my sisters car. She was in a really bad accident as a passenger in another car, and can no longer drive. I got her a van she can get her wheelchair in, and traded it to her for the Sonic, which she had no use for anymore. I got it with 51,000 miles. Admittedly it had been abused and neglected. The oil looked like thick black paint. It still had the original DEXKILL coolant in it. I changed the oil 10 times in 5,000 miles to clean out the engine, flushed out the DEXKILL and put regular coolant in it. I've had to replace almost $1200 worth of engine parts on it since I got it. I had to replace both the intake manifold (both made out of plastic) because the PCV valve failed, and the parts are built into the cam cover and manifold. Almost $400 for a PCV valve. I do buy Fords. I have an '06 Mercury Grand Marquis, a 1972 Pinto woodgrain wagon, and a 1964 Fairlane. But turbo cars in general tend to have problems. A turbo makes no sense unless it is for performance. The turbo Ecoboost engine is designed for MPG not power. The right way to get normal power out of an engine is to use more displacement. A lot more reliable.

What you’re saying doesn’t make sense. The 3.5L EcoBoost is still available, including on the Utility (Explorer). It also remains available on the civilian Explorer. The 3.7L has always been the standard engine. The 3.5L and 2.0L are more recently available engines. Of course the EcoBoost costs more to produce but it certainly isn’t “expensive “ for Ford to make given the hundreds of thousands of them produced for the civilian Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Flex, Taurus SHO, Lincoln MKS, MKT, etc. And the EcoBoost engines have been generally reliable. The 3.7L engines were the ones with CO leaks out the cracked manifolds, not the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. Realistically, this review should have been about the probable demise of the Interceptor Sedan and not about the EcoBoost engine.

Also, since most of the parts are Motorcraft that are breaking on it within a short time...when replacing parts get something else besides MotorCraft, I mean these are OEM parts that fail so why Would I buy that which failed before 50K miles. They say, "Oh, this cars having problems, why not buy a new one". That is the dealer you may have been taking it too and every time they fix it they break something to get you to sale it, trade it in, or buy another car from them on their lot where your car did not have problems before bringing it to them for a inspection check to stay compliant with the warranty BS...that is what happen to me at Opelika Ford in Alabama...Oil change and trying to find a noise....got the car back then the brakes went out driving from paying a bill at AT&T...they almost cause me to die... After that I never go to dealerships that will not allow me to see what they doing to my car. I'm paying them so I should be allowed to see WTF they doing. I stood at the door the entire time becasue it was clear and watched them doing extra stuff to my car I did not even ask for...later I needed something else, this is before stop going to them, the door was filmed covered to keep me from looking at them "work" on my car. They really hate when you wait on your car also.

The 3.7 is the same engine as the 3.5 ! A minor bore increase . BTW Ford stopped using the 3.7 in the Mustang you cannot get it currently. It’s 4 cyl ecoboost or 5.0. The problem with the 3.7 is the water pumps , they often take the engine out with them when they fail and even if they don’t it’s a 2000 dollar repair job easily ... they are anything but easy to work on ... maybe compared to the ecoboost version . As for the ecoboost police package it never should have been offered. Police service is too severe for a turbo gas application especially given many departments lack of proper maintenance the turbo version needs maintenance to be on time every time if it’s going to last long term. Finally the turbo lag is from heat soaking , cars sitting running for hours not moving and all the heat under the hood the turbo version has more piping and heat and the entire intake tract is heat soaked from the air filter to Intercooler it’s all going to lag until the car gets moving and moves that airflow and heat out the back, and cools the Intercooler off .

If you don't have the right credentials you can't buy a police unit from Ford. You'll have to buy a used unit and you want one that was delegated to administrative use. Even though most municipalities have good service programs, the cars that are patrol units get run really hard they have loads of hours of run-time, particularly at idle which obviously doesn't show up as mileage.

The Police Interceptor 3.7 suffers from the same killer issue as other front wheel drive 3.5, 3.7 models. The timing chain driven water pump's shaft seals fail and allow coolant to enter the water pump shaft bearings, which quickly destroys them. Once the bearings start getting chewed up, the coolant can then bypass them into the timing chain splash area and down directly into the oil pan, Short time later, engine is destroyed because of lack of lubrication. Water pump replacement runs about $1500-2000 at a dealer. If you buy a used high mile or hour Ford 3.5, 3.7 front wheel drive vehicle, allow extra $ for this required repair.

Greatest part of Ford ownership is large dealership, auto parts store & aftermarket support world wide inexpensively & ease of repair & maintenance.

As a current owner of a taurus int. the beginning of this video is correct just get a vic. Ptu goes out @ 60k as well as electronic steering rack (epas issue a LOT of fords have this issue). Duratec 3.5 and 3.7 engines have internal water pumps that when bearings go bad require taking manifold, heads camshaft chains and side cover off. All together you'd have to chuck 3-5k back into the car parts and labor (when it does go bad). Ecoboosts have carbon deposit problems and turbo wear issues, as well as mentioned ptu and steering rack issue. Engine, trans and exhaust cooks all these components and causes early failure. Keep in mind ford covers NONE of these repairs.

The trick to make the ecoboost live is CHANGE THE FREAKING OIL. Every 5k or less. Also the way some departments drive them they tear up ANY car. Our local department was changing transmissions frequently on their crown Vic’s . The mechanics told me it was constant. They also said they had tried a few different high performance name brand units. That tells me it’s not the car it’s the driver.

@@Interceptorconcepts thank you! And what he was talking about the thing with the eco boost that it is bad or something like this?

The 3.5L base I would not as it has a different transmission. The 3.5L TT and 3.7L share the same better transmission. The turbo variant is expensive to repair and like any turbo will have more issues. The 3.7L is pretty strong and fast for a V6.

@@Interceptorconcepts ohh thank you so much!!,so the 3.7L without a Turbo Variant and without Eco Boost is the best?

I would recommend the 3.7L over the Turbo 3.5L. The EvoBoost 3.5L has had some problems.
