WATCH THIS Before Installing Z31 CV Adapter Flanges on your Datsun!

Specifically for the Silver Mine Motors adapters. I should have known better the first time I welded this together that just because it fit in the recessed portion doesn't mean its straight! But you live and learn. Make sure yours is the first time!

This is a jig milk engineering would be interested in making, if your not! But you should. I feel this is one of the most important, find, in Z modding in a good bit. Great job, who knew. Nobody has ever brought this up, I'm sure they just drive, thinking it's tire wheel unbalance!

Absolutely a discovery of great importance for all of us Zcar owners. As you said, most of us would have simply made sure that it fit within the recess & welded it in place. Obviously your machine shop experience has served you well in the way you thought thru the potential problem & developed a solution. Cudos to you and your willingness to make your jig available to others. QUESTION: What was your pre-heat temperature and did you MIG or TIG? THANX!

Thank you! I did just start basically interning at the machine shop as a second job and this was my first project. Had a lot of help but it was great to learn. I tig welded it (seen at end of video) but I can’t tell you what my preheat temp was. It’s funny, my temp guns battery went out when I went to shoot it, on list to get a new one. You may even see it on the bench.

awesome vid/info my i suggest to make the JIG larger so bolts can be added to clamp the flanges together before welding and cooling

I have older adapters from CJ Cave...i think... he had a jig that he would ship to you for a rental fee so they stayed centered.

I always enjoy your content, than you for sharing. The ZCarDepot adapters have a centering lip on the inside that helps center the companion flanges. I recently had mine welded on, but my car is not running yet. Hopefully I don't get the wobble. Applying that much heat from the welding did warp the adapter a bit so I do have to machine it or sand it flat again.

Omg that would have made this so much easier! Just that alone makes their design superior. Wow

Interesting, I was considering going this route too. But looks like a pita. Might go back to the alternative of 280ZX Turbo axles and milkfab.

Looks like a pretty good alternative for ok hp. I’m above 400tq tho. I have rented the jig to one person so far so thats an option

maybe a 3d printed jig part would work for just tacking

  • @StewartMotoring

Yea 3d print would very least get you closer than trying to measure it. Or be quicker. Good thing about a metal jig you can clamp it down to reduce warping when welding.

Could we possibly get a file to 3D print the jig?

It’s 50 bucks plus shipping to rent the metal one. I understand diy 3d printing, but I don’t have a dxf made. So you’d have to diy that too.

So would the use of these axels also fit into the r180 diffs on the early Zs?

  • @StewartMotoring

    @StewartMotoring

No, from my quick search the r180 is 27 splines and the r200 is 29. So these z31 axles are 29 spline.

I think it would too, I’m planning to rent it out. That way you don’t have to pay for a 1 time use. Cause it would be pretty expensive to make and sell. That was a thick piece of metal.

To sell them it would be kinda expensive for a 1 use jig. I think renting it out would be better/cheaper for everyone. I just want to make it a bit better design and then I’ll post in the forums

That’s not a bad idea either. I wonder how useful a plastic version could be. I know it wouldn’t help with warping but just to get it straight quick and dirty
