As an autistic Protestant converting to Catholicism, you hit on the biggest draw for me: the liturgy involves all my senses, along with my body, in the worship of Jesus. I smell the incense, I see the colors and host, I hear the bells and priest’s words, I say the prayers, and I feel my body move as I kneel and stand. Praise be to God for His Holy Church!

My mother passed away when I was 10 and she was 42. But before she was married, she portrayed Our Lady in a Christmas Pageant for many, many years I was told. I hope in heaven maybe I can see even one Presentation re-enacted.. I don't think I'll have to wait too, too long, as I'm 80 years old this year! 🙂 God bless and love everybody.😊🙏🕊️👑😇

I’m a Protestant, primarily but not exclusively because I don’t believe in papal supremacy, but one of the things I love and respect about Catholicism is liturgical worship. With few exceptions, Protestant churches don’t understand the power of this form of worship, preferring only music and preaching. My church has a candlelight Good Friday service and advent service, but that’s about it. I’ve never even heard of a Palm Sunday service. It sounds powerful.

Today I confessed and went to TLM in a FSSP parish; the priest was very kind, he even gifted me a book for my children and helped me follow Mass. It was in the offering of my time, my sadness, my contrition, and by praying silently alongside the priest that I really felt fulfilled during that mass. I am grateful I am welcomed in God's arms. To offer ourselves as living sacrifices - that's a profound mystical experience.

Mass is supposed to be transformative. When we walk in we are worshipping with all the angels and saints. It’s why we sing Holy, Holy, Holy, and Gloria. It’s also why the church isn’t a stay a sinner type of church. It constantly calls us to repentance and reconciliation with God.

I have never viewed the Mass as a spectator sport. If all we do is go because "we're supposed to" or because we feel we've "done our duty" for the week, then we have missed the very reason the Mass exists--to remind us of the great gift God has given through his son--our very salvation. And that can come best for us if we truly immerse ourselves in the liturgy--and become one with it. When we say the Lord's prayer, it should be heartfelt. When we receive the host, we should feel Jesus' actual presence. When we say we're not worthy of his entering our house, we should feel the joy that he willingly enters freely--and gladly--into our daily lives. In short. if going to Mass is anything less than joining with Jesus in the sacrifice he suffered for us, then we have truly missed the point of it all.

This is, by far, your most powerful video, Fr. Casey. I'm a non-Catholic Christian, raised in a mainly charismatic evangelical family, but even from a young age I was drawn to the liturgy, albeit Anglican. No one understood why or how I could worship or even experience (feel) God through the liturgy, but deep inside, I know that God is truly present regardless of whether we feel Him or not. So while I don't forsee myself becoming a Roman Catholic Christian in the future, I will still view all forms and rites of the liturgy as sacred and a call for us as Christians to live our lives as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. Thank you, Fr. Casey.

Very good video Father. Active participation in Mass is extremely important. The members of the congregation are a living part of the service. That's why the worst thing that the choir can do is sing for the congregation, instead of leading the church in song. The people who come to mass are not an audience, they are participants.

@quayscenes Thank you, and may God bless you and your family, and those in your heart that need healing. I am drawn to the Catholic faith. However, my family had a bad experience in the Catholic church. When I told my wife I was starting to lean toward Catholicism, she started crying because of things she had gone through. There are things I've seen the Catholic church do that I can not agree with. Such as treatment of priests and bishops by the church when they are ... acting inappropriately with children... lack of screening for certain positions. The amount of wealth the church has instead of giving back to the community. I'm just not a fan of "high church," I'm told it's called. I have faith in Jesus either way wether I stay with my Methodist Church or move to a Catholic church.

@@Out-to-Pastor Yes, our church does have problems. All churches do. There is the old joke about the guy who searched and searched for the perfect church. At last he found it - but he himself was not perfect enough to join! Recently, when I pray for others, I pray less that they "become Catholic" and more that the "Catholic Church will be purified"! That said, there is much to be admired about the Catholic Church (and the 20+ Rites that are in full communion with Rome, including some Anglicans!). For me, it all comes down to the Eucharist. Experiencing and contemplating the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist is the "source and summit" of the Catholic faith. Sadly, this is often misrepresented by well-meaning Catholics in a crass, overy literalistic way. Even our concept of Transubstantiation falls short of a perfect explanation (another great video by Father Casey!). It is even possible for a Protestant to take a Real Presence view. And perhaps if we ever get around to truly unpacking the great treasures of Vatican II we will find more pathways to unity. Wherever you worship, my best advice is, "Stay close to Jesus!" Churches will let you down. Christ will never fail you!

Thank you for the joke in the beginning. I do realize I can't point fingers cause I'm currently attending a United Methodist Church. Ours is one that is seeing the UMC to be able to disaffiliate. Methodist have their own sins and you are right, no church is perfect. But it's not the church so much as it is Jesus who is our savior. Thank you for your thoughts

@@Out-to-Pastor Indeed, we are all still learning! Even Joseph Ratzinger near the end of his life was "still learning". After becoming "Pope Benedict" he still chose to write his books on Jesus of Nazareth, not as "Pope", but as Joseph Ratzinger, the humble seeker after the face of Christ. You will not go wrong listening to Father Casey's excellent teachings. I am a huge fan of Bishop Barron as well. Do you follow Gospel Simplicity? Thanks to Catholic Answers I was reminded that a sacrifice (sacrifice of the Mass) is always a gift and not always a killing. Hence why Scripture speaks of a sacrifice of praise (Hos. 4:12) and the sacrifice of thanksgiving (Ps. 50:14). It upsets me greatly when Evangelicals don't understand this and accuse us of re-sacrificing Christ each time.

"as if we were there" - reminds me of how the Mass is a memorial just like the Passover was - "My father was an Armenian... It is because of what the Lord did for *me* (not my ancestors)". Through God's grace at Mass, we're actually there. As I watched your video, I could see so many things I learned come together. May you have a Blessed Triduum father!

I used to not join the Holy Thursday's & Good Friday's Holy Masses. Just joined the Stations of the Cross at dawn on Good Friday and went straight to Easter Vigil. Must be because my dad used to tell us when we were kids to stay at home, read the bible, reflect on the passion, death & resurrection and to behave during those days esp. after 3pm on Good Friday because Jesus is dead and our ailment or wounds will not heal until the next year. But when the parish priest asked me to cover a video for the masses for homebound parishioners, I realized that for decades, I missed a lot. I have no idea then what goes on with the liturgy, so I directed it blindly. And boy! it was the most intense emotion I ever felt. Especially during the procession of the Santo Entierro (Holy Burial), everything just comes to life. It is as if we are burying a really dead person; placed in the middle of the church for the people to mourn, together with Mater Dolorosa. I will never miss the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, the Good Friday of the Lord's Passion and the Holy Burial anymore. And I just love how my Filipino Catholic culture expresses our faith.
