Watch This Baby Have an Allergic Reaction to Peanut

What do you do if your baby has an allergic reaction to food like egg or peanut? What if there’s a skin rash on your baby’s face or hives after trying a new food? In this video I’m sharing an experience with Baby Brayden who was 6 months + 3 weeks when we tried her second allergenic food: peanut. She had hives and this was similar to the reaction Brayden had when she also tried egg for the first time during week one of baby-led weaning.

The peanut puffs featured in this video are from Puffworks Baby and they are my favorite for safe introduction of peanut protein for babies. The Puffworks peanut puffs have no added sugar, just a smidge of sodium for preservative and they are the softest puff on the market so they dissolve easily in your baby’s mouth (even safe for babies without teeth).
You can get 15% off all of the Puffworks Baby puffs (they have almond for trying tree nut too) using the affiliate discount code BABYLED. Click here to get Puffworks baby discount code BABYLED: puffworks.com/discount/BABYLE...

The non-steroid healing eczema treatment cream featured in this video that Brayden eventually had good results with was from Evereden. Evereden makes non-toxic baby skincare products, many of which are certified by the National Eczema Association.

If the idea of offering your baby a potentially allergenic food like egg or peanut is scary, it might be helpful to know that offering allergenic foods early and often is actually the only thing you can do to lower your baby’s risk of food allergy. Can the baby have the puffs or eggs again after having had the minor skin reaction? Will that help them build tolerance?

I worry that parents might not worry about allergic reactions if it is explained to be only a skin reaction and hives that resolved on their own. They might not seek an allergist referral. It might be helpful to also show examples of anaphylactic reactions that are quite scary, and might follow a hives-only reaction.
