WATCH LIVE: Ice Cream Man Double Murder Retrial - FL v. Michael Keetley - Day 12
Ойын-сауық
Former ice cream truck driver Michael Keetley is facing a retrial for allegedly shooting six people on Thanksgiving 2010, killing two brothers, and injuring four others. Prosecutors allege Keetley was out for revenge after his ice cream truck was robbed for $12, but mistakenly targeted the wrong suspects. Keetley’s first trial in February 2020 resulted in a deadlocked jury. The former ice cream man is facing two first-degree murder charges and four counts of attempted murder.
Reason For Retrial: Defense attorney’s argued Keetley was too badly wounded from his own shooting, to carry-out the shooting in Ruskin that killed two people. Weak witness testimony led to a mistrial in 2020, after some state witnesses failed to identify Keetley as the shooter, identifying another man in a police mug shot packet. Defense witnesses were more exacting in their testimony, which led to a jury deadlock of 10 not guilty, 2 guilty, and eventually a mistrial.

I think from what I heard briefly, there was a problem with a witness coming to court today and that's the reason for the delay.

It’s current so there has yet to be a verdict. They plan to pass the case to the jury by end of day on Friday (24th) then we will have to wait to see how long the deliberations are. The Judge has stated he would like it completed and not be required to go into next week. Hope this helps.
No alternates?
Is this one also on a verdict watch does anyone know

Roger Dread, would you please tell me the technique of merely "looking"at someone and coming to the determination of guilt or innocence? You can save the need of judges and juries.

It's one firm. I'm not sure why Escobar has all hands on deck for this case, but maybe they just really believe in it? As for the cost, Keetley's parents are most likely paying.
It's kind of nice to see a moment of levity at 1:38:24 in otherwise serious proceedings. Nice to remember that they're all people at the end of the day.

You don’t have to tell their employers! If they watch the trial, they will see it!! DING DONG!
😮
I've said it before. I'll say it again. Why can't the defendant get a suit for court? I think that's disrespectful.
One thing I know. This man is guilty. You can see by just looking at him

Yep. He is bored and sleepy. Not taking notes. Not really helping with his own defense as far as I see. If I had sat in prison for 10 or 12 years for something I DID NOT DO I would be angry and you would be able to tell not nodding off during my 2nd trial and what probably is his last chance to be freed!!!!!!!!!!

@@pbradics3670 No, he initially seems like a fun and affable judge you might like to hang out with, but his rulings are inconsistent, premised on the (incorrect) notion that the rights of the State at trial are commensurate with those of the defendant, he makes snap judgements and won't admit when he was wrong, and (in this case) has _repeatedly_ threatened mistrial (and today, basically said the defense's only recourse to the prosecutor's inappropriate questioning was a mistrial), which is _only_ a threat to the defendant in this case, who has been incarcerated for *twelve years* awaiting trial and retrial. Really, his worst trait is that when he realizes he's made an error, he doubles down to avoid admitting to error. Say, he realizes he improperly overruled an objection. When discussing it later, rather than give a curative, he'll just say, "...regardless, you got to address it on cross, so it's fine." Or, in the case where he shouted at defense counsel for doing something he's ethically obligated to do (and who was factually correct, in the end), the judge came out after the break and wanted to let everyone know he's just a loud kind of guy, but he _totally_ didn't yell at anyone. The appropriate thing to do would be to apologize without excuse, tell counsel you know they have an ethical obligation to their client to make a record, and ask them to please make the record they were prevented from making. It's not hard, but his ego won't let him, and _that's_ a problem.
Judge always oriented toward defense. He always looks at defense’s side when speaking. Not a good look!

1) It's not strange to look at the person you're talking to, which was often the defense today (or the State, standing at the podium right next to the defense). 2) He's right-handed, so his primary computer monitor is on the right side (I think the left-side screen is an ELMO display). The defense table is also oriented to the right-hand side by local custom. 3) Even if he looks at the defense, he rules for the prosecution, constantly criticizes the defense, and went so far as to literally _shout_ at the defense attorney, who was attempting to make a record (which he is required and authorized to do) regarding the prosecutor's assertion of fact which accused the defense of lying to mislead the jury. (Spoiler, if you missed it: the prosecutor was, in fact, not just mistaken, but lying, and tried to awkwardly back her way out of it afterward.)
