@TheYoungTurks - Anyone who would vote for Bernie and then tRump is showing that they don't have a unified or mature political identity or philosophical framework. Bernie's politics and policy priorities are polar opposites of those of tRump's. This is just political illiteracy and immaturity on display. In the future, these interviewees need to be asked to address the incongruity in the politics of tRump v.s. Bernie...simply using the word "populist" in no way unifies their radically different world views.

What an idiot. Voting for Trump is voting away your right to vote. Choosing Trump, or any Republican these days, means an end to your ability to chose your own government. I come from a dictatorship. If the right dismantles democracy, which they are very close to doing, it's over. You will never vote again, not a real vote. It's not coming back, not without war and violence and only after decades. I'm just staggered how dumb Americans are on both sides. The left is more worried about global warming and trans rights than voting rights. And the right don't even want democracy at all. Once any one party takes over, once democracy is done, THEY can do WHATEVER THEY WANT. They can take your guns, with their tanks. Your stupid rifle will not stop their tomahawk missiles. Their F35. Their armored vehicles. Plus they can starve you out by cutting power to cities. No more food deliveries to grocery stores. Lets see how fat Americans survive without electricity and food for a month? All those guns, you'll be shooting each other for canned food and rice. Without democracy, they can kill you for being gay, or an ally. Or whatever. All protests will be treated as riots and live bullets will be used against crowds with hundreds even thousands of dead protestors. And who's going to stop them? Fat boy militias with rifles? Climate activists in funky T-shirts? Americans, you're killing yourselves. Long before climate change or immigrants will have the opportunity. What a nation of morons this country has turned into.

@@Metal0sopherYes, it’s very bad, but don’t count us Berniecrats out just yet, only we’ll have to find another younger candidate who shares Bernie’s vision and policies. We will still vote for that, and we’re generally fired up on that score. I think we would fight like hell again. BUT, the biggest problem we have is the Democratic National Party, as they (Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Donna Brazile screwed him over and really cheated him out of the Presidency, for which I will never forgive them). They had q just DECIDED that Hillary WOULD win, period😅, so that we could finally get a woman President. I also would love to have a woman President, but Hillary isn’t the woman I want, and, apparently, a lot of Dems also didn’t want her, which is why trump won. And how did that work out for them? That’s a rhetorical question because we all know how that worked out, and it was a nightmare for our country, and so disastrous, humiliating for the entire country on the world stage, and thoroughly corrupted the Republican Party. It has damaged our country and political system so badly, it might take decades to bring both parties back to what they were before it all turned to shite. We need AOC to brush off her spine, strengthen it again to where it was when she first joined Congress, and in a few years run for President, spouting the enthusiasm-garnering speeches she used before. We love you, AOC, but you’ve got to get off your butt and speak like you did in your campaign. That was why you won! Do it again, and get your Squad to back you up, publicly and visually, all together in support of one another, and help you, which could help them being in the same position in a few years. If your platforms are like the original ones, which could get AOC into office, it could do the same for you. Also, don’t forget that Marianne Williamson, to the best of my knowledge, is still running, and I think she would be fabulous! She’s very smart, much smarter than most people give her credit for, and she has great policies, which MUST get out to the public regularly so she could clear up the insanity of the misconceptions surrounding her. Someone needs to get the Democratic National Party to quit letting people give her the silent treatment of never letting her speak, of covering her up, ignoring her. Run her like the real candidate she actually is. And pump her up, show her off, get her on regular tv interviews and public venues, everywhere and all the time. Get her out there to spread her speeches about her positions so that the people will get to know her well.

True that. And it is no longer a secret that for years, Republicans have been lying to pollsters, then they turn around and say, "See, the media favors the Left. They rig the polls to make it look like the Democrat is winning because everyone want to back a winner". I heard a Republican politician admit to this on a conservative talk radio show. He was asked if we were worried about being down 4 points in the polls, he said he was not at all worried because he knew Republican's lie to the pollsters and he was still good at 4 points down. He won.

What you desire only makes things worse unfortunately. Free health care eventually becomes death care like Canada advocating for quite literally killing yourself. Housing is expensive because the government artificially at least to a degree creates inflation thefore everything every year becomes more expensive while simultaneously every year you make less money.

And you think that 'corporate' Democrats have been suckered into the culture wars? There's only one party that I know of that is in favor of letting abortion be a part of reproductive/gynecological healthcare too. If that's scaring away socially conservative people when more than half of Americans think that LGBTQIA rights and women's rights are important, as they should be, but we're not that far away from having another Holocaust. The alt right steal and usurp our religious symbols and then wonder why Pagans are so pissed off at them. Government is supposed to be an arbiter between conflicting groups of individual rights, but no one wants the responsibility that comes along with those rights. There are good things that come with government as long as it's exercised judiciously... separation of church and state, department of the interior, department of education, school boards etc.

You guys got this concept of populism wrong. There's nothing good about it, on the right or on the left, it's equal to demagoguery. To be precise, fighting for middle-class priorities is not being a populist or a demagogue, it's being progressive or leftist. Social-democracy. Catering to people's anger and fear, like Donald does, is being populist.

@@tioswift3676 Do you honestly believe what you just said? Because here's what I saw happen: - Trump announced his candidacy and basically immediately started saying that the only way he could lose is if there was fraud - He kept repeating that to the point that reporters started asking him if he'd accept the results of the elections, to which he said "I'll accept them if I win", clearly implying that he would not accept them if he lost - He said he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and not lose any votes, so he clearly knew how fanatically devoted his supporters were - He did win, but still claimed massive voter fraud without evidence because he lost the popular vote, even though that doesn't even matter because we elect Presidents based on the electoral college - He kept making that claim of voter fraud throughout his Presidency without ever presenting evidence for it - He said stuff that indicated he wanted to be a dictator, like "Xi is President for life... that's great, maybe we'll try it here some day." or "I wish I got the reception in my country that Kim gets in his". - He claimed that there would be massive voter fraud in the runup to the 2020 election - He lost the 2020 election, then claimed that there was massive voter fraud and the election was stolen by Democrats - He kept repeating that claim, despite losing every single court case, even when they were brought before judges he himself appointed - He ultimately held the rally on Jan 6th, and in front of a crowd that he knew was enraged said things like "You've got fight like hell, or you've even gonna have a country anymore", and ended with the statement you quoted. - Then he basically watched as the crowd became violent and forced entry into the Capital, chanting things like "Hang Mike Pence." He'd been telling a group of people who he knew to be fanatically devoted to him that the only way that he could lose is by fraud, and then told them that said fraud had, in fact, happened, and that their votes had been stolen and they weren't "even going to have a country anymore." And you honestly, truly, in your heart of hearts, believe that he did nothing wrong because he uttered the phrase “peacefully and patriotically let your voices be heard”?

I'm a populist who has never voted for Trump. I don't know who I'll vote for in the future. More importantly, and fundamentally, there is a willingness lately of our political leaders, both nationally and in my state, to opportunistically violate the Bill of Rights and other parts of the U.S. Constitution. I feel compelled, if given the opportunity, to vote against that. However, I fear that selecting a worthy candidate will be an exercise in splitting hairs.

I find it very difficult to believe that this guy's realignment from Sanders to Trump is the sign of a trend and not just a very odd exception. Do you have other indications that this shift is real? Bernie has never waivered from his anti-corporate agenda, he supports Biden because he has no choice to get things done. Bernie continues to shift focus toward issues that the Biden administration would prefer fade into the background.

It's a global trend. The so-called progressive parties in many countries have abandoned the working class and now look down on them. I live in Canada and if an election was today the conservatives would win in a landslide. As Cenk said, it may be a lie but people take the liar over the ones who openly condemns you. Furthermore Trudeau is using Hillary's playbook that was used on Bernie in 2016 and going after cultural issues when the economy sucks. For the working class it has sucked for 45 years. The working class will go whoever speaks to them.
