"From 2018 to 2020, the activist left experienced something of an electoral renaissance. It started, of course, when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, then an obscure primary challenger, ousted Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.), the chair of the House Democratic Caucus.
The scope of the change was most evident, though, in how her win ― and the victories of the other left-wing candidates who would jointly come to be known as “The Squad” ― pushed many mainstream Democrats, including President Joe Biden, to the left."

This may be a bit of a generalisation, but my observations are that once progressive, representatives become elected, they water down their policies and then tend to go main stream. If i were to speculate i suspect they cave in under pressure to follow the party line.

Ah yeah, nothing progressive about the largest green infrastructure bill in history, right. Nothing progressive about the american rescue plan and all the other shit they've done. You guys expect perfection and it's absurd, Biden has been doing a better job than any republican EVER would, and the only reason he hasn't done better is beccause of Manchin and Sinema.. SO BLAME THEM. The President cant' unilaterally fix everything. Wish TYT spent its time teaching its audience this instead of making them hate Biden. Helping Trump get re-elected in the process.

It's hard, because I'm hearing people say similar things. His way of doing things seems to be on the back end, through the companies. There have been a few policies (paid leave, higher wages etc.) that individual companies have taken up, just not law. It's good to have that pressure externally, but that tends to only help a select group of people.

The sad story under this whole trend is the fact that progressives, once inside government, became dependent on staff and donors who are way intro identity politics. This made them defer to ideas and projects advanced by the college-educated professional managerial class that is over-represented in the world of mid-level government, academia, and non-profit management. They dropped working class politics that got them elected in the first place, and got buffaloed by the professional managerial class and its agenda of race, gender and identity. It's killing the left. Only Bernie sticks to class based politics. But there is a lack of overall vision and program. We need more regulation, not less. We need to tax wealth. We need to break up tech and banking. We need a strong livable minimal wage. I hope your broadside of Biden doesn't take votes away. You make Biden sound like a total fail. He is not. And I am a socialist, barely a Dem. 2024 is very soon. Trump 2.0?

If you can't help low income HOME OWNERS stay in their homes, you're part of adding to homeless population. People band together to save their homes. 14 Trans kids in a state being unfairly treated is ok to mention as an issue. But it's not helping poor and low income keep the Real Estate Developers from taking homes from lack of property tax protection. I'm not talking about folks with wealth and income. Most homeowners aren't wealthy. If you aren't talking to them, you can't win.

On the one hand you call out “extreme leftists” about defunding the police and prison abolishing. Then on the other hand you’re mad at elected justice democrats about how they stay elected. The right doesn’t generally make these distinctions to their audiences to fracture their own electorate. The right keeps focus on radicalizing through culture wars and they win with that. And as much as you criticize the justice dems for not pushing leftist policy, why aren’t you pushing policy that radicalizes? All you need is people reporting/emailing from the local level about policies that affect them, and make that an issue that our justice dems can fight for.

The US hasn't been a democracy in decades. It is a plutocracy, (corporate oligarchy). And the Dems have put in laws to take away rights and have done more to repeal, destroy, or make ineffective the New Deal/Anti-trust laws. You should go tell the Democrats that Trump is this danger you think he is. Just sad because for DECADES the lost of democracy has been happening by BOTH parties. You just noticing and thinking it's because of Trump is sad and/or you buying propaganda. The Dems fast-tracked judges for Trump, they extended the Patriot Act under Trump, they expanded NSA surveillance under Trump, etc, etc, basically, they gave him MORE POWER. But sure the Democrats are the means to stop him. 🙄 But sure keep saying, "...stopping Trump you are saving democracy" showing your position is just based on party nonsense instead of actual policies.

Climate change All other issues are important but they do not make up the bedrock of suppression. If we as citizens felt safe in our food on the table, roof over our heads, safe about our future, safe with our health. The hate would die down. You are totally wrong in your list of most important issues!! The number one most important issue is the fight AGAINST voter suppression! The number two most important issues is ELECTION OUTCOMES PROTECTION! No less than fifteen red state legislatures are moving to give themselves the authority to overturn/ignore outcomes on ballot initiatives they don’t agree with!! I live in St. Louis county missouri, once in 2018, and twice in 2020 our red legislature tried to go against 65% vote outcomes on ballot initiatives. Fortunately our center left Supreme Court told the legislature, YEA NO, and forced them to give the voters what they voted in support of!! You piss and moan about crap that can’t be accomplished without majority votes!! Protect voting and outcomes, then whine about the things you want!! The Party of Stupid Cowards ran on the dead horse that is abortion in 2022 and they lost the house majority, and the one senate seat that gave them a clear majority. And what are they already running on for 2024, fuching abortion again?? Cowards a cause they are afraid to tell abortion rights people the truth, stupid a cause they won’t make voting rights, and outcomes protections number one!

Labels are our worst enemy. Too many people rely on a word to define ALL their beliefs, policies, way of life, etc. As easy as it would be to put every single person in a nice, neat, little box, people needs to pry open their minds juuuuust a little more and understand that life, people and thinking transcends single labling and single words. In this case, you can't assume progressives are all this way and conservatives are all this way. Most of these politicians are just scummy and I think the almighty dollar has far more to do with their scummy practices than just ideology.

Maybe now Democrats will win some purple House seats in 2024. Name one swing seat where a progressive won other than Katie Porter? There are several important distinctions with her. There are issues she positions herself with the mainstream Democrats, 🇮🇱 being a big one. Her brilliant campaign staff pushes that “ minivan driving midwestern(wholesome) mom” angle which absolutely works. Wisconsin was such a vital potential pickup. I don’t dislike Mandela Barnes but I knew he’d never win statewide. LT Gov does NOT count. It’s a ceremonial role. It’s most important function is to “balance the ticket”. An older white moderate picked a young black left wing guy made perfect sense. I’m begging the people of MI to vote for Elissa Slotkin in the primary. We can’t afford to lose that seat.

That's always the problems on the progressive side. You can have millions of ways to change, but only one to keep everything the same. So progressive politics are always a compromise and compromises always leave everyone unhappy. With conservatism you can paint a picture of "not changing" or "going back to yadayada" and if you convince the people that goal was reached everyone is happy.

They don’t know any better and therefore have no accountability… Florida voted for Obama twice! They can’t be racist…) That said, THIS is why I love TYT. This honesty. This ownership. Calling it what it is, regardless of who is involved, is the only way we move forward. With regard to Justice Democrats, Democrats are known for making promises they don’t intend to keep. We all had hope, but aligning with either side is problematic (Not equally, but problematic, nonetheless.) Identifying with right-leaning organizations means you’ll have some hate on your menu. And aligning with the Left means, at some point, an order of empty promises will be delivered. I hope they wake up and do better. In the meantime, I hope we wake up and do better.
