Whirlpool, Thank you for taking the time to address the comments on here, it shows exactly where your priorities are... it is not and never has been about the customer. Your brand and a few others have monopolized control over this aspect of millions of lives... the very least you can do is address our concerns.

How do I permanently disable the lid lock?

Thanks Captain Obvious, now how do you unlock it without electricity?

No crap. I think anyone looking on here already knows this info, how does the mechanism itself work

So it seems once one starts a load one cannot stop it to remove an item (Say, to drip dry vs. spin dry?) without stopping the complete cycle and having to start over? Did I get that right? If this is right, how, exactly, is this a feature vs. a total pain in a$$?

If you disable the lid lock on the washer, does it still function or does it deactivate the washer?

IMHO - This is NOT a "feature." I am a senior and have been using washers for a number of years. I know how to use them. I've never once put my hands in the drum while it is spinning. There are no children in my home ... ever..no one will fall in. I dye fabric and felt wool. These items need to soak and/or agitate for quite a period of time. The process for these activities is to check on them frequently to know when they are "done."

I know the feeling. I don't have kids around and I like to add a lot of softner while it is filling. But, the lid locks not allowing me to do that. I really am beginning to hate this washer.

I agree with your sentiments and I hate the lock. I’ve had to stop a cycle that was misbalanced only to have to start all over again! I figure they added this lock as a liability measure but I feel we should be able to turn if off

I’m stuck in my washer machine

I hate lid locks. Just add some type of electrical tub brake (like the GE HydroWave) so it stops fast when you open the lid, when you don’t it coasts down. So you can open the lid without worrying about the lid lock. But with the lid lock, you can’t really do anything if it’s off balance. And if you hit the start pause button it takes like 3 minutes to stop. Not worth it. The lid lock is great for little kids tho so they can’t open the lid and interrupt the cycle during operation.

My lid lock light don’t turn on and It works normal, water goes up to 15% always no matter what load size any help pls?

I was done washing . Took all the clothes out and closed the lid.. came back to do a new load 15 mins. Later and the washer shows locked lid??

That's the very FIRST thing I've disabled on my new washer, the other is the water level so I get a FULL wash!

I was told by an appliance repair guy that it couldnt be disabled, otherwise washer wouldnt work. I have an Amana HE top loader

How do you disable? I've just installed a brand new washer and the lid lock refuses to lock making it wash with any high speed functionality

I called a local repair shop to ask if they would disconnect it and they refused! Grrrrr

This is absolutely asinine. I couldn't why the wash is done and I cannot get the clothes out to put in the dryer. Lowe's delivered it and I did not get an instruction manual.

Idiots who put their hands in the spinning washer who need a lid lock... the rest of us DONT that's why it's easy to disable the damn lid lock permanently so it's never an issue, neither will having to replace a bad switch in the future!

well this was useless, was hoping to find a FIX to the damn lid lock error that prevents it from washing. I dont really care if the lid locks or not I just want clean clothes...

@@crystalspears3597 tbh, it seems the latch builds up some corrosion or residue, I've tied a piece of fishing line to it and yank the damn thing in and out a dozen times or so everytime the error occurs... never could get the magnet to work

Duh how to start back up

This is BS! I have lived on this earth for over 60 years washing clothes since I was a kid. The problem is that when you have this stupid lid lock and the washer is out of balance, you cant open it to re shift the load. You also are not allowed to add or remove things from the washer unless you cancel the cycle and then it has to start all over again. RIDICULOUS. I wont be buying a new washer thats for sure. I will be scouring the used washers that were made prior to the stupid lid lock.

I agree. This idiotic thing has locked, wash has completed and it won't unlock I have tried to cancel and even that won't work.
