This is a TEMPORARY fix for your washing machine lid switch. It is imperative that you replace your lid switch instead of bypassing it for long periods of time. The lid switch is one of the required safety switches for a washing machine. Proceed with caution if you choose to follow this instructional video to bypass your switch. Thank you for the video. The local appliance parts store wanted $45 for that switch. So, I cut it off right at the switch, connected the two wires with a butt connector. Covered it with some shrink tubing and used electrical tape at the ends of tubing for good measure. I'm old and live alone, and I will (hopefully) never be stupid enough to stick my hand in the tub while it's screaming in circles.

This is very dangerous. People and pets can and do get hurt. DO NOT DEFEAT a Lid lock. But a new Lid lock and replace it. PEOPLE I see pets and children get hurt or die frequently. This is avoidable. DO NOT defeat lid locks. Lid locks serve a very good purpose.

Our switch broke ages ago and I had just unscrewed it from the machine, then clamped it closed with a wooden clothespin and stuffed it deeper under the top. It (mostly) worked perfectly, but would randomly come loose during a jarring spin cycle - then the metal tab fell off and there was less material to clamp. It became so annoying that I had to turn my brain back on and wondered how difficult it'd be to just close the circuit once and for all. You saved me even more thinking. This is probably the fastest fix I've done in years. Thanks!
