Was My Sisters Tire Slashed??

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

So, my sister got some new tires earlier this year (January 2021). In early August 2021, she called me from just outside her work with a flat tire. It was night and when I got there, the tire was done, and got a bit shredded from driving a bit with it flat.
The next day, I wanted to review what happened, and was a bit surprised at what I saw. Am I jumping to conclusions, or is there something more sinister going on? You tell me your thoughts

If it was a slash, it would be a straight cut mark on the sidewall. She probably ran over a sharp knife on the road. Does she have any enemies?

No enemies... that she's aware of lol. Honestly, you're most likely right...just something sharp on the road struck the tire. She's never had any problems since this video too

Hey Shannon, long time no see. I hope you are doing well. She had none that I know of, but we live in Toronto, Ont. You just have to look at someone wrong and you have made an enemy LOL

Hi nexus .. question for you please . I’ve been watching your videos for a while and I really appreciate you !! I had a pier pop on me last night and got all 4 replaced on my Infiniti jx today and did a 4 wheel alignment . The mechanic told me that the camber on the rear wheels needs to be fixed for the alignment to work properly. I have no idea what that means ? Is that something important ? The car is driving awesome now with the 4 new tires and alignment but I really wanna know if that camber should be fixed or is it nonsense? Thanks again for everything

Camber is the top of the tire leaning in or out thus putting all the cars weight on either the inside or outside of the tire, instead of being straight up and down centered... So your mechanic DID NOT do a true 4 wheel alignment. Your car probably needs new suspension parts like struts, or mounting hardware (bolts for struts) that change the angle of the tire or camber. If you don't get the camber properly aligned your new tires will wear out prematurely, wasting the money you just spent. If you trust your mechanic then it's a good idea to do what he says... And then have the car aligned again because it would have been impossible to have a true 4 wheel alignment done the first time. Nexus will likely back me up on this.... Good luck!

@@shannonharris thanks so much for the quick reply and clarification. The tire place said they will do the alignment again once the camber is adjusted . Is that usually a big job ? I mean the car is almost 10 years old and 140k on it and I just spent freekin $800 on tires . Thx again

@@mele2259 it is not a big job but every car is different and it will wear out your new tires prematurely if not aligned properly.

@@mele2259 Hi Mel. Sorry for the delay. I really appreciate the support and glad to hear the videos are helpful. Shannon is spot on here. If the camber is truly off, then it will ruin your new tires prematurely. Not only that, it can affect the handling of the car, and if it was really bad, it can even cause a safety issue. Unfortunately, this one of those things that is very important to make sure is corrected, but also one of those things that (some) shops use to rip off clients. How were the old tires? Did you get to see them? Normally if the camber is off, the inner part of the tire will be more worn out than the outer part, or vice versa. If your old tires were fine, then the camber would theoretically be fine. But this is not a fool proof test either. Just a very good indicator Here is a link to see what camber wear looks like. It is more extreme, but it'll help identify it www.google.com/search?q=camber+wear&rlz=1C1VDKB_enCA932CA932&sxsrf=AOaemvJrxMgi9xq-3maVeyOeUBwCVCzjBg:1630904494157&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwiOlaXYyOnyAhVnF1kFHWkfCaoQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1920&bih=937#imgrc=CkdBCvsKYRTQUM Also, there is not a lot of parts on the rear of the JX35 that affects camber. Normally a shop will tell you what part is worn that is causing the camber to be off. Did they give you any details on what could be causing the issue?

@@NexusAuto hey my friend . Thanks so much for the reply . the tires were worn on the inside more than the outside . The 4 tires were shot though . They were on my vehicle for about 4 years and I put 70k on them . Never had a flat or anything . The tire shop gave me the alignment numbers showing the front wheels being good but the rear wheels showing -1.4 with the notes “camber maxed out” and recommend to get the camber adjusted then coming back for an alignment again . Should I get that adjusted ? The car is driving beautiful with those new tires and I don’t wanna spend $200 on that camber

I completely agree with you. I advised her on that, and she is thinking about it. I have done lots of Multi cam installs, so it depends on if she will do it. This tire was very concerning.
