Was EVERYONE Wrong About Oprah?! Body Language Analyst Reacts to Taraji P. Henson Viral clip.

Ойын-сауық

The internet turned on Oprah Winfrey after footage of a photoshoot with the cast of "The Color Purple" seemed to show some awkward body language between her and Taraji P. Henson. This was around the same time Henson had an emotional breakdown during an interview on SIriusXM. However, shortly after the social media reactions, Taraji came to Oprah's rescue in a post where she cleared the air. But what do their body language, facial expressions and word choice ACTUALLY reveal? Find out now!

Gayle is low key bullying Teraji. What an awkward thing to be interviewed by Oprah’s bestie. Teraji seems like a woman with high integrity and emotional intelligence. To see her at the breaking point, is heartbreaking. Sh s an incredible actress. I wish her the best.

Oprah addressed all of this and also said it was terribly cold and Taraji backed her up but idk. She’s also a producer and may have wanted the cast together for the media opp so she noticed & moved. A little devils advocate but this is Hollywood so we won’t get the truth regardless. That’s why we’re watching professionals analyzing body language 😂

She got paid and she knew up front, she wanted to be associated to this film and Oprah for her career accomplments it may not have been a positive experience as she may have hoped to expect the original film was a master piece this remake I don't care to watch so there may not be the money to the actors if they compare themselves to any other current film recently produced today so the math is there she just didn't care to do the math for herself she speaks for herself but she decides to name other cast members that's not her place her career choices are hers alone and she knows that speaking negative about her most recent employer publicly can and will harm her as a consequence of her timing the film is currently out in theaters worst timing ever she is harming the work that everyone in the production, and cast had worked towards this is all a distraction and that is a mess she has created for herself now

in part I agree-in part. Yes Taraji signed the contract and Oprah prob is concerned about the bottom line-it's her job as a producer. In the interview with Gayle King, Taraji, says,"... I'm tired..." I'll bet she is! Promo tours are notoriously tough. And compared to Oprah she doesn't have as much experience with this stuff. Are her grievances valid? Hell, ya'! Shared during a promo interviews, ahhh... may the not the best idea...but the woman is tired and it just spilled out-tears and all. @@leomarilyn4232

I took this completely different in the beginning. Firstly, Gail was actually throwing shade to Henson using the words audacity to minimize her autonomy. The reactions to this question including the eyebrow raises and the lone paws in addition to the emotional response indicated to me that the comment was made in confidence to someone else. Her talking about quitting was to someone she trusted so back to Gail she was basically gaslighting her saying she doesn't have the power to control her own career. It's also the tone of her voice it's not playful it's sarcastic. This tone is popular amongst workplace bullies. The long pause was Henson realizing she was betrayed and deciding if she was going to double down on the truth, which she did.

I agree with your interpretation of that moment. I thought and felt the exact same thing. I would only add that, the lady in yellow was probably who Taraji confided in originally, but felt betrayed by her evidenced by Gale's candid confrontation and confessional right to Taraji's face, regardless of how Ms.Yellow dress felt about it. Gale went for the raw reaction from Taraji and got it. Yellow dress was initially shocked that Gale betrayed her confidence but then recovered herself by trying to comfort Taraji with a rub to suggest that she still cared about her emotional well being although she had obviously betrayed her trust. Taraji did not even acknowledge her gesture because at that point it was very obviously fake

Something that I noticed is that when Fantasia approaches she doesn't acknowledge Oprah at all. She doesn't even look at her, her gaze continues outward at the City scape. But, look at Oprah, and how she realizes that none acknowledgment. So, she is between 2 women that there is obvious tension...she moves away quickly. Once Oprah leaves, Fantasia connects with Taraji through body language and then touch. They all had a conversation prior to that Empire State building gathering.

The post from Taraji definitely felt like it was for PR purposes. I’m a little surprised you didn’t speak about during the photo shoot on the roof top how Taraji tilted her head back and tried to, what seemed like from my interpretation, to hold back tears as Oprah walked up. Taraji is naturally an animated person so it’s really hard for her to hide her emotions. I believe it was because she was trying to hold back emotions and focus on presenting herself in the best way (like we saw similarly in the other interview) that there was no shift in energy with the other cast members as they arrived, her focus was on herself and keeping it together.

I have no clue how that feels, but I can imagine the pain. People who perpetrate narcissistic abuse do this (Oprah’s) behavior a LOT. They will make a point to establish they are in a good, fun mood and will extend that to everyone in the group but INTENTIONALLY “ice out” their victim. Its always done in a way that would fly under everyone else’s radar, but the victim and the abuser both KNOW the victim is being punished. Take a good look, because this is the version of the silent treatment that abusers do in public Where the actual silent treatment would be too obvious and end up making the abuser look bad. My abuser would do this to send me the message “See? I don’t have a problem and *everything’s fine except for you (the victim), YOU’RE the problem.”*

I think this channel host should have analyzed the expressions and behavior of Fantasia and Danielle when Oprah moved to Danielle's side. To me it was crystal clear that they saw Oprah's slighting of Tiraji and wanted to distance themselves subtlely from it without raising tensions. Oprah moves to Danielle's side, and puts a very possessive grip on her left arm, Danielle doesn't pull away and even follows Oprah's handhold for a moment but then quickly moves her left hand up and to her right😢 in order to hold Fantasia's left arm with both her hands, subtlely leaving Oprah to her own devices. Fantasia's and Danielle's expressions say it all....not a matter of moving around arbitarily in efforts to keep warm....

*EDIT:* The more I think about it, the scarier this is. I think it has echoes of the power dynamic between an abuser and their victim. There is a 100% lack of mutual acknowledgement between the two when Oprah approached and stood by Taraji. They each saw the other, but there was no eye contact, no connection in their faces (no smiles, no eyebrow raises.) Taraji both (subtly) threat-tracked Oprah and sought approval from her. She also seemed ready to respond to any friendly gesture from Oprah, but received none. It was as though she first needed Oprah's permission to engage with her. Taraji's reaction to being snubbed reminds me of a child who has just been savagely chided by a parent and displays that mix of shame, upset, discomfort and contrition, when they feel the parent is furious with them. Or an abu$er. Oprah dictated the mood like a draconian authoritarian and left Taraji stressed. She even did the 'hand on shoulder' power move to the woman to her left. I don't have any strong feelings about Oprah, but I found this footage scarily passive aggressive, bordering on bullyish. And Spidey... Thanks for all the learning opportunities this year - wishing you a happy, healthy, successful 2024. 🌷🥂

What I appreciate most about Taraji speaking up was she chose her words carefully and clearly thought before she spoke. She wanted her comment to mean something. She could have chosen to joke back with Gayle and let that moment pass, but she didn't. She took that opportunity to educate and advocate for her fellow actors. I had never heard about colorism until her comment and Spidey's explanation. As for her interaction with Oprah, it is clear that Taraji is hurt and disappointed but also holds tremendous respect for her. How many of us have worked really hard on something and succeeded only to be left unacknowledged and unsupported by those we hold in highest esteem? It's painful. The question the interaction left me wondering was...did Gayle call Oprah right afterward and tell her that Taraji complained about her pay? That is something a best friend would do to forewarn about potential bad PR. On the other hand, it could also be that Oprah is intuitive and she felt the pain that Taraji was in and did not know what to do with that. Being uncomfortable, she may have moved simply to find a better energy.

She's aware of her fake ness, but playing her cards right by not saying too much that'll get her where Oprah got Monique. She knows how much power Oprah holds in that industry and knows her game of throwing people under the bus. She's saying just enough without saying it all because she's been in the game of that industry long enough to know how they are if you go "too far" and she's not about to have Oprah do to her what she did to Monique. She holds all the cards. Since the topic had already been made public, she doesn't have to justify bringing it up in the interview. I believe that Gail expected her to walk he previous comments back, knowing that Taraji's future in Hollywood is at stake. Instead, Taraji did the brave and honorable thing. I dare say that she's already living to regret it. Now she knows how Mo'Nique felt. Oprah seems to have no problem underpaying Black talent. I guess that's how you become a billionaire.

Mon’que didn’t get much support from the public even though her explanation was valid. Taraji is receiving A LOT of public support and Oprah is getting the backlash. Oprah does not like getting backlash due to someone else’s actions. Think about the man that wrote the book A Million Little Pieces. She interviewed the man and I think had the book on her book club. Later she found out the book took a lot of liberties and was more a nonfiction than an autobiography. She brought the man back on her show for what seemed like the sole purpose of berating him publicly. I felt her actions were totally unnecessary.

Taraji seems to be getting emotional when Oprah started to walk away. My interpretation when she was blinking too fast is that she was holding back tears and emotions. Her finger on her forehead is a gesture of soothing herself, like she's telling herself "it's ok, don't cry." It's a form of self-soothing just like when somebody was about to cry and you see that person using her hands to "fan herself". Oprah made her feel non-existent when she didn't even acknowledge her presence like a tap on her shoulder or a touch on her elbow. She thinks she's above her and she could care less if her actions will hurt somebody and she thinks people/her fans will always side with her. That's what powerful people think. They have god-complex.

I'm sure something could've been keeping her attention over the side of the building, but I doubt it. She seemed a bit standoffish or cold as well when it came to Oprah. Furthered even more by her almost seeming not to acknowledge Oprah at all ( no eye contact, no smiles, face almost expressionless, body turned explicitly away - almost as far away as conceivably possible as one can be without being obvious) when she moved to the end. Then finally facing forward after she moves. I feel like these were things that could've been analyzed - because for me they were almost more explicitly obvious than any behavior Taraji had even if the behaviour could've in some alternate universe been indicative something else going on. Even Danielle her facial reaction when Oprah grabbed her. @@slieafrica

Great summary of body language. You are spot on. Especially about the part in the letter where Taraji says " with that being said". I believe Taraji is exhausted with the racism, classism and politics of it all. I also believe she is of the generation where she'll stand my her truth and her mission for equal pay for African American women. Even if that means " throwing in the towel". But the bottom line is she has bills to pay like the rest of us.. but I don't think she will remain silent any longer. Yes, she'll acknowledge what the " powers that be" have done for her but she will not bend to kiss butt. Shell stand stronger. Well just have to support her through this. Thank you

I appreciate your take on these events. My opinion is that multiple things can be true at once. I think the message was a necessary PR response. I also think that the conversation she had with Oprah was genuine. After all, she said she ALMOST walked away, which leads me to believe she was given a bump from the original offer. I doubt that Taraji believes it's Oprah's responsibility to fix the pay gap all by herself. In the interview on SIriusXM Taraji's complaint was about leaving acting. The industry. As in the industry doesn't pay fair wages. She says that she's tired of having to start EVERY negotion from the BOTTOM. As if she hadn't done ALL the movies and won the awards. It can be true that she didn't make enough for her role in the Color Purple and also be true that this is an example of overwhelm. When I saw her body language, my first thought was she was releasing years of pent-up frustration that has led to this. Whether she and Oprah have a beef, to me, is a symptom of a larger problem. This is one movie. She's been in around 45 movies and 102 episodes of Empire where she only made 175,000 an episode. To me, these were flood gates from years of working too hard for too little. And to lay all that pain at Oprah's feet (another black woman) misses the larger point. As black women, we are culturally direct communicators. WHAT we say is equally if not more important than how we say it. She deserves to be paid fairly all the time.

The biggest stand out for me is the interaction between Fantasia and Oprah. Fantasia walks into the frame, avoids eye contact with Oprah. She doesn't even look in Oprah's direction even though she is walking up next to her. Oprah sees this and gets the feeling Fantasia doesn't want to be next to her. Oprah senses this, her smile disappears and she puts herself on the other side of Danielle. There was no verbal communication between Fantasia and Oprah. No "Oh, why don't you stand here next to Taraji." To me it looked like Fantasia didn't want to be next to Oprah evident by Fantasia walking up to Danielle but Danielle stepped aside and guided her toward Oprah. Once Oprah moved away Fantasia turned to Taraji. She was starting to do this just before the camera fixated on Oprah putting her glasses in her pocket. You can briefly see Fantasia and Taraji make eye contact, Fantasia puts her hand on Taraji's back and then Taraji look away to avoid crying.

  • @davidalan528

    @davidalan528

@@CribNotes "As an actor, you are only worth what people will pay you" is an incredibly capitalist construction of self. Human beings are more, are *worth* more, than their work product, howEVER it is priced. FIrst of all. As an actor myself, as someone raised what I lovingly call "Hollywood-adjacent," let me also promise you that among creators, people are valued twice over: yes, there's their price, but we all know and discuss their skills and talents. And those two discussions take place separately from, but intricately interwoven with, one another. There's "how skilled and talented am I", there's "how recognized is that among my peers in the industry," and there's "how are these skills and talents commoditized and priced in this industry". That last question is affected by more than the skills and talents in question, obviously. There's market forces and there's societal forces. So the question of "How much is being offered" immediately suggests the question "Why is this the amount being offered? What forces affect your offer to this person, Taraji P. Henson?" And let's not pretend that the answer is anything other than "Lots of things other than the talent and skills of Taraji P. Henson." You're damn right, nobody is owed anything - *except* what is promised. And I don't live in a world, and neither does anyone worth less than "never have to work again" money, where "If you don't like the money offered then don't take it" is a practical stance to take. She said it clear as day. She's got people to pay. She's got kids to feed. She's got a life to live. And let's not diminish the importance of this, her worth as a human being is to a certain extent pinned to this dollar amount, so even if the above things weren't true, she has self-worth and mental health to preserve. For those reasons and others, she has the right to self-advocate *well* beyond "if she don't like the money she can walk". That's not how negotiation works, but that's also just not how the business of being a paid artist works.

We can almost subconsciously pick up on cues & micro-cues that don't seem to jive w/ what we perceive as normal or baseline....Sort of like a spous might do for a husband or wife...or a parent-child might or siblings. Did anyone notice how O hangs on Danielle after previously seemingly not to take personal interest. Additionally, O is not only using Danielle as a shield, but she literally grabs at her until she gets he bearings and then stands on her own. Did anyone see what I saw? It also seems Danielle is trying to be diplomatic. She leans in to O, but the second she can attach back to the group -- she does. What about Blitz? He turns into Taraji while speaking and almost seems to be checking the climate of Taraji while also giving nonverbal support. Anyone see this?

I haven’t been a fan of Oprah since the late 90s. I sent a letter to her that ended up on a “Letters to Oprah” episode. I was asked to take photos for the part of the episode and a courier was sent to pick them up because of the short time frame before the show. When the show aired, Oprah was UGLY to me even though she’d mentioned my request in her commercials for the episode. It was just beyond not nice. She was also ugly to people who made and sent things to her in that episode. Someone had embroidered Oprah’s face on a pillow. Oprah’s response to it was that she didn’t want to (or wouldn’t be) sitting on her own face. Why couldn’t she just say thank you? I can’t support her. I believe Taraji’s “low energy” with everyone is because she’s in a bad place in general with this project because of Oprah. I’ve been in a spot like this where I just can’t fake my mood for anyone. I feel for Taraji. 😢 ETA: My mom just reminded me that my aunt who lives near Chicago was leaving her doctor where she’d just found out she had cancer and went to get on the elevator. Well, Oprah was on the elevator, so her people didn’t let her on the elevator. Can’t share the space with a peasant it seems.

Real talk, this sort of fatigue hits Black people harder - or, at least, hits differently - than others. We're so used to having to "smile" to take the edge off the "angry Black [insert gender for differing versions]" stereotypes. We don't have to be in the room with an antagonist for that fatigue to have us being *completely over* exerting the energy it takes to remove that edge. And that can translate as SERIOUS "f*ck you" energy. And then there's the power dynamic of it all. Oprah won. *Decades* ago. She never has to play politics with anyone she doesn't choose to. *And* if she chooses to, she can make literally anyone from an audience member to literal Royalty dance to the tune *she* calls. And hey - more power to her! *Imagine* what it took to get to that spot, for an overweight woman working as a Chicago on-air reporter in the 80's. (My godmother had a similar career, from being on-air talent to being a shot-caller in her industry. I live for her stories.) But, having said that, I'm not gonna cheer when Oprah uses that power to *actually* make the little people dance. And when those human beings are already disenfranchised or oppressed in some way, I get mad. Nobody gets to tell her what's what, she's earned that, but I won't apologize for my disappointment in her when I hear the behind the camera stories I've heard. Anyway, whatever this body language is telling you, I promise you Taraji P. knows she's not Oprah. And if the wage gap is living in her head right now, that might cause some pain. Whether or not there's anything personal between her and Oprah - and I seriously doubt there is, based on the little i know of both women it wouldn't be subtle if there was - there is certainly, professionally, that power dynamic. Remember, contract negotiation would hardly have been an actual conversation between the two women. They'd have had a high-level talk or three about the project, depending on whether Taraji had to audition or whether she was requested, then handed off the conversation to their agents and lawyers for the details. So if there is negative energy, it may well be a combination of any or all of the above factors, plus what can happen when playing telephone about matters involving money. So much potential for miscommunication.

You were treating her like some sort of deity, so you just got a quick lesson about why you shouldn't. Celebrities are not deities. And yes, that is indeed gross. If it was just about you being a dentist and wanting categorical items of the industry to put in there, you could've just put in your own special oral memento, but you asked for a celebrity's toothbrush or floss to show off, probably thinking it would come autographed and stamped. Take it as a lesson learned about glorifying celebs and let that hurt go. And especially after being made aware of feelings of being under appreciated, Oprah had no business being center stage in the PR shots, upstaging the actual stars of the movie. Yes, her involvement helped to get it made, but her time to shine was when she starred in the previous version. She was right to step aside, even physically taking up less space by standing more sideways in the photo and appearing to be “behind” her stars. It made for a better overall impression.

They call shine; we don't have to drag anyone. And remember: each one of them ACTS for a living--TPH seized her moment even if it caused a backlash and caused some to boycott the very movie she was promoting.

For me, it’s Oprah’s deliberate choice to leave the center of the group (which seems more appropriate for a photoshoot of superstar Oprah with the cast) and walk to the edge of the group for absolutely no reason other than to obviously tell T “hey, I don’t want to stand by you.” Oprah’s behavior throughout this whole clip reminds me of the bully middle school girl who is the leader of the pack. No one wants to be on her bad side because she will ghost you and get everyone else to ghost you. This is especially the case when Oprah ignores T and walks over to D and suddenly becomes the fun girl is laughing and touching D and even leaving her hand on D for extended periods of time making D feel special. Yes Oprah, we all know how fun and cool you are and T knows she must grovel now. T looks like she is about to cry in my opinion. Just like you would in middle school! So lame Oprah.

How brave of Taraji to put the truth out publicly knowing full well what it may cost her. The idea that Oprah and others like her who are very public about the black challenges do not step up as Taragi has and put it all on the line to address those challenges is hypocritical at best. She has the position, power, and funds to bring this colorism issue to the forefront in a very public way, yet if it hadn't been for Taragi speaking up, it would have been swept aside yet again. Taraji had a Martin L. King moment, and Oprah failed miserably. I hope Taraji stays the course and continues to be a role model for all those coming up and doesn't quit in her career nor in her fight.

Fantasia was very uncomfortable. It definitely is a power struggle. Oprah is older and knows exactly what she is doing. The picture shows how uncomfortable Taraji is and the rest of the ladies were towards Oprah. Everyone tried to keep their head straight instead of welcoming vibe. The post was to mellow out things between them to “fool” the public.

This isn’t the first time Taraji has said this. She talked about this in interviewers during Empire’s run. Especially about being told about shows/movies with black leads not doing well overseas. She was mobbed by fans when they did promo overseas! She also made a comment about what she was paid compared to other actors on other tv series. I remember Taraji, Kerry Washington and Viola were on back to back on Wednesdays. I wonder how much they made compared to their counterparts. How long can you hold that in without “going off”? Plus, Gayle seemed kinda flippant when she asked that question. She rubs me wrong.

In the second clip, there weren't just several subtle behavioral clues but some pretty big ones as well. When Fantasia arrives, she is seemingly looking for some distraction herself. Danielle gestures for her to stand next to Oprah, and then pulls her in and whispers something into her "upstage" ear. Oprah quickly moves from between Taraji and Fantasia to stand next to Danielle, tightly grabbing Danielle's wrist. (Remember the Markle Claw?) In the meantime, Fantasia, looking a bit upset, givesTaraji a concerned glance and then rests her hand on Taraji's shoulder. Danielle has taken Fantasia's elbow with both hands. Oprah shouts, "COM'ON FAN-TAY-SIA" without ever looking at her, and then rests her hand on Danielle's shoulder, highlighting the fact that, Taraji, despite being the first cast member there when Oprah arrived, was the only one she didn't acknowledge. (In the meantime, Blitz is standing there just looking like a man who wants to stay as far away from flames as possible!)

Danielle seems to be a peace maker not choosing sides to the public Taraiji has the presence of communication and Oprah appears to have we will handle this in private persona almost giving the feeling I will allow each one be an individual but don’t forget Im still Mama….growing up in black households we have the saying what goes on in this house stays in this….or what I say in this stays in this house….also a lot of us will code switch depending on the environment or audience this all plays a part in body language

When they have billions of dollars to help people plus friends with billions of dollars to help. The Rock made a sorry video and then told how much he gave and I think it was less than he did but the other one was trying to buy the people land for less than what it was worth only because they needed money to live. Now some of the people that lost everything with some family in the fires have moved many times with so many movie stars and billionaires have mansions just on the other side of the island that's empty that they could let them stay in or get them the campers that they fix for family need and put on the land to live in till they can rebuild. But what is sick is that the government only gave each family 700 or 750 when they have sent billions and billions overseas to help the family and them to fight a war we have no business in. They did it with our tax dollars. We the people should have a say in what our tax dollars go to. Plus they use our social security dollars to send also so when the 30 year olds or 40s will not have any money to get paid back to them when they turn 65 or by then it will be 80 to retire. Like the homeless Maui residents who could absolutely use her help, as she sits on thousands of acres of land & builds roads to the beach for her own satisfaction alone. Taraji just looks sad and disappointed. I really think that this says it all. I think that we were all brought up to believe that O is an amazing, generous person. An icon and a success story of a strong woman of color who comes off as definitely supporting other strong women of color as well. I don't exactly see that, especially recently. I see a little bit of jealousy and some patronizing/judgemental tendencies in some interviews coming from O.I think that Taraji was let down by O personally and it's like finding out about the Easter Bunny. That Black pregnant women fake their pain Someone posted this after she did a interview with Vice President Harris 2 weeks ago. Dr.Jackie was talking to the Vice president about Black women dying more during and after pregnancy than other races in America She made it seem like she was a advocate to try to help women. Someone brought a old interview were she was putting down Black pregnant women. Mind you, she has no kids, never experienced given birth. So she doesn't know from personal experience what it feels like to carry a baby or babies for 9 months and give birth. People who went to medical school were taught lies, myths about Blacks and other people of color. People in the medical school were taught that Blacks can endure more pain than whites. Dr. Thomas Hamilton started that lie. He believed Blacks didn't feel pain compared to Whites because we had thicker skin, that we had fewer nerve endings and etc Dr. Jackie is 65 yrs old, they still teach myths about Blacks in schools. This is why Blacks were not given pain medication compared to Whites during opioid epidemic in America Anyway The interview she did with Vice President Harris. She said Black females dying more than other races during or after pregnancy. Her comments make her look like a hyprocrite Three years ago, she said women are crying wolf. If women were faking their pain, they wouldn't be dying so much. After the video went viral, she still didn't apologize. She said it was taken out of context. thank you for your analysis, and staying objective - AND including relevant context one thing i want to point out is that even though Black/Brown/Marginalized entertainers are Told they don't translate overseas, that isn't true 1) "overseas" needs to be taken on a case by case basis - bcz it's not all one country or one market - and we know of how many Entertainers that take their shows on the road? too many to count - So we know that statement is a Lie - but also, just bcz one market doesn't want them, it doesn't mean ALL overseas markets don't want them smh - it's not a monolith out there it's a HUGE oversight, even in Taraji's interview - not bcz it was her job to say it - though, it might've driven her point home - Gayle King should know this as well, and certainly could've brought it up, bcz Taraji was def emotional and wasn't in business mode in that moment - we all know racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. do exist - but this "doesn't translate" is a known trope used as a weapon against actors, producers, directors, writers etc., especially if they're Black, lgbt+, or certain women - it's been proven many times that Black actors, stories, subjects CAN "translate" - but that studios Don't WANT to market overseas - it's simply a choice they're making - with the money they make, they could do things wherever they choose, within reason (laws) 2) why don't they want to market overseas? - bcz then they can't control the market overall - meaning then they'd have a harder time underpaying ppl, picking and choosing who gets the golden ticket, shutting down smaller projects that need money to tell stories by/for Marginalized ppl, or that have too much truth in them - AND if other countries vote with their money, those productions that have opportunity to move and film overseas, make their money overseas, and build a rapport without the "middle management", that would reduce the money taken in by agents, production companies, managers, accountants, lawyers, and whoever else isn't doing the creative/ practical parts - they only sign checks and formulate contracts - which are necessary - but you can't have movies without all the creative ppl [enter the Ai debate] (this is the same reason professional athletes don't own the teams or the stadiums - if they did, the whole market would change, and they'd have controlling votes) 3) THIS is why the whole Ai debate, and streaming residuals, and digital contracts, and tech tech tech debates are ongoing - our writers just got off strike, bcz they simply want to EAT, and have Healthcare, without constantly being on the verge of homeless - while billionaires decide how much more in bonuses to give themselves for taking advantage, and now trying to push Human creativity off a cliff, or burying it - bcz that way they get even more profits without having to shell out any money - mind you they propose doing this, while using human voices, faces, creations, etc to "teach" tech devices to regurgitate creativity enough that humans aren't needed in the long run - or so they can get paid very little compared to the projected profits each company will gain from work that's essentially being "legally" plagiarized (bcz there's no current laws to stop it, since Ai is newer to this debate) i could go much deeper, but I'll leave it here as a few examples/rationales - this kinda stuff is also why so many talented ppl just give up on trying to navigate all the pitfalls of the entertainment industry, without getting taken for the worst ride of their lives (and that's only including all the currently legal stuff - not even the backdoor, and dangerous personal dealings we hear about) i went to school for this stuff, and def decided The Life wasn't for me - i hadn't even lifted one foot of the ground, and def caught several folks trying to make major illegal moves against me (young, female - what can i say?) the one thing I'm grateful for is that now with social media, ppl can more easily build a platform Independently - BUT now that bigwigs can see how much profit can be made online without them, they're pulling shady tricks to keep from paying online creators - AND simultaneously paying for remedial Ai to take over certain spaces (a two•pronged attack) in other words, prejudice and power go hand in hand - and those that have it, will do anything to keep it, and get more - especially if they think they can cut you off at the knees **yes I'm biased - I'm a multi•intersectional person who sings, dances, writes, and acts 😆** **but i studied this stuff to avoid it, so i have a clue, more than some might** **p.s. Mo'Nique told us this a decade ago, but nobody wanted to hear it** **the entire history of American Entertainment is about exploitation**

Taraji took a chance to be vulnerable to Gale about something that tants Oprah too. Given Gale is bffs with Oprah, behind the scenes tea surely have been discussed between them, hence Oprah’s frostiness. I support Taraji - what she said to Gale was raw and real. I hope it doesn’t hurt her working on the film because while Taraji was moved to tears about the up and coming African American actresses, Oprah has always appeared to be more concerned about being in the elite for her own gain.
