    I didn't expect the drop in output to be so dramatic. Now that the SFT40 is available at 3000K I'm thinking about replacing the dedomed 519A in my S2+ with it. I'm gonna wait till Simon lists the emitter.

    SFT40 is a 5050 emitter, you’ll need a new MCPCB. It’s 3v though, just like the 519a

    @@cheule I know, I always order new emitters with MCPCBs. This will go into my 18350 S2+ with the 5A buck driver. My other S2+ (Ti 18350) EDC has a 719A and the 6V2A driver.

    This is nice, I really like the idea of the Warrior Nano but having so many lights with more attractive emitters puts me off a little. Remember the H2R Nova NW? That actually had a beautiful tint, a very rosy 4000k comparable to a de-deomed 519a but with lumens over CRI. I just want that again so I'm definitely going to invest in some new soldering kit. The only thing that puts me off is losing the warranty on an Olight.

    So do you prefer warmer beam colors or are you chasing beam shape optimization, I figured most people would prefer a neutral to cool white beam color? I love lights also, though I'm not as knowledgeable as you are in every aspect of them.

  • @cheule

    I was chasing better tint, warmer CCT and higher CRI. All of that comes at the cost of less lumens.

    Is it possible to replace the TIR lens in a Olight Warrior Mini 3? I just got that flashlight but I don't like the hotspot. I think it's way too tight for an EDC flashlight. I thought it was going to be much floodier than it was 😕

  • @cheule

    @cheule

    8 ай бұрын

    I like the tight hotspot personally! But solving the issue for you is so easy you won’t believe it. Without even dismantling the light at all, you can add as much flood as you like by lightly sanding the surface of the TIR optic. Go light with the sanding at first, and make it look lightly frosted. Don’t worry if it looks uneven, you’ll never see it in the beam. Not floody enough? Sand it more! You’ll be surprised how well it works.

    why do you even bother reusing the PCB? why not just use a new one?

  • @TorchHacker

    @TorchHacker

    9 ай бұрын

    Great question. It's sometimes easier to re-use the MCPCB. Some flashlights, like the Warrior Nano, have a custom MCPCB with a particular: thickness, width and cut-outs. You can find suitable MCPCBs with the correct width but often the thickness isn't correct and cut-outs are missing. The thickness needs to be the same so that the TIR optic or reflector can go back in the head without rattling. If it's too thick then the optic might crack when you screw the bezel down. Holes may need to be drilled into the MCPCB so that the original screws (if any) can be put back in to help hold the MCPCB down, and so that wires fit. There are some cut-outs that help prevent a MCPCB from rotating in a head and keep the emitters aligned. Each flashlight is different. It may be a lot easier to get a MCPCB with an LED pre-soldered and use that. If someone is starting out with swapping emitters, then I'd recommend trying that first and using a soldering iron to reconnect the wires.

    All the other lights make the Nano look a bit rubbish. Did you not have anything else smaller that would have made the Nano look good? or is the Nano your worst light lol. Great vid in any case. Oh and like your 3k mod. Seems to have some serious flood, sort of like a warm sun or big orange on the ground.

    I feel like anyone looking at the nano is probably a Warrior fan, so that’s how I compared it. I could have compared it to a Okluma DC1 with Sigma single drop in, but that’s a $700 light vs a $60 one. They do look similar though… which shows what a bargain the Nano is.

  • @geeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz

    @geeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz

    @@cheule or what a rip off the Okluma DC1 is? If it's as good as the Nano then perhaps that isn't such a good thing really, especially for $700. I agree the Warrior comparison is also relevant. I am curious to look at new models but the Nano manages to evade my lighting ocd, though as usual from Olight it looks very well constructed. I'm getting my first smallish cheapish work floodlight today to try and it does different colour temps so looking forward to seeing how that is.

    4500s run 4300 out of the gate. Then expect a dedome to lower CCT about 20%, and the PMMA in the optic lowers is about 200k further as PMMA filters bike light. If this was a metallic reflector it would be higher CCT.
