Removing the dome on a Nichia 519A in seconds, the easy way! Using a Q-tip (qtip)
Ғылым және технология
I've been using this easy "q-tip" (qtip) method to remove 519A domes for a long time now. I feel bad every time I hear someone say that they use "my method" to de-dome, because I haven't used the razor cutting method in ages.
Someone recently commented again that they learned how to remove domes with my video and the shame of not having a current method online made me make this!

Just tried it on my Wurkkos FC11. That was way easier than expect. Thank you for the tutorial!
just did this on my d4k... easiest thing ever, dont even need tools for it. For now i only removed 2 of the 4 domes to create the illusion of a tint mix i suppose. Result is amazing, looks a lot rosier. Gonna upload the whole thing, should be on my channel soon.
Hey hey! Fantastic, got a few SC32 HICRI in today and noticed the bezel ring was barely tightened down (it was tight but not glued) so I figured, why not dedome for kicks and giggles. Not disappointed in the least bit. Thanks for the confidence boost with this vid!!
ok this was fast! the corners looks almost intact, a good signal. in some cases a bad dedome may could lead to a low lumen output. Nice video, thank you.
Thanks for the visual!

Glad it was helpful!
I've been using my fingernails to remove the dome, a Feather razor to cut excess dome on the sides, and a q-tip with isopropyl to clean the glass. 😅
Thank you so much!
I learned this method from Artiet59 and so far it works well (no cracked glass) but it might removed a tiny amount of the white ceramic.

The white isn’t ceramic at all, it’s squishy. Almost feels like foam

How do I go about getting a emitter swap done from you? I’ve heard in your videos that you do custom work for customers but I can’t figure out how to go about setting that up. I actually have several I need done. Any answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and love your videos!

Thanks for replying! I can’t get it to work through. I’m trying to figure out how to send it from my iPhone with my gmail account. I tried direct link and copy paste option. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!
Sorry if this is obvious, what do I need to look for in a flashlight to be able to swap a 519 In? Loving the DIY content 👌

Convoy is a GREAT place to get diy parts. On aliexpress it’s the Convoy a flashlight store. S2+ is a great starter diy host. I have a video that shows how to assemble a triple in a S2. I have my 8 year old som do it even!

The main thing is having a MCPCB that the 519a will fit on. 519a is a 3535 size emitter, so it needs a 35mm x 35mm pad on the board. The forward voltage is very similar to other 3535 emitters so that's rarely an issue. You can skip all the wondering and just know you can replace any 219b/c, sst20, lh341d, or XPL-HI emitter with 519a. Each 519a doesn't like to take much more that 5amps so if it's a single emitter light be carefully not to burn it out. I burnt one by giving it 8amps out of a fully charged 21700 battery. Hope this helps!
It can be done like this because it has a glass layer. Most emmeters don't and thus this method would never work :)
How does this compare to the previous method you shared using the hobby knife to cut at an angle then pushing? Is this method just faster or does it also produce better results?

There is a possibility of pushing too hard and cracking the glass. So I just do this now.
I’ve used my fingernails 😆 I’ll have to try this out too!

This is a little more predictable than fingernails. Try it out.
What about old XP - G2? Easy,or? Btw. great content

No, that would take slicing. I promise to make an emitter slicing video later.
I wonder if this method works for the Samsung LH351D?
@cheule

No, the phosphor pulls up and it turns blue. You have to slice lh351d with a razor horizontally. You can steady your height with feeler gauges.

@@cheule thanks for the tip, appreciate it man. Awesome vid btw!
Qual o significado de remover isso? Muda alguma coisa?
i've tried it with the samsung high cri led and it tends to rip off the phosphor material.. why is the phosphor on these leds so stuck/glued on there compared to others? did they anticipate people doing this? also dedomed an acebeam l35 for shits and giggled and the intense retina-searing violet light is awesome imo.

Why shave a led ?

It lowers CCT, lowers DUV, and increases throw. It also usually lowers overall lumens a bit. But the other moves are usually worth it.
