It's a common misconception that when a stock you buy skyrockets, the smart thing to do is sell it (or at least sell some of it) to lock in your profits. But the context matters. If the stock has increased sharply because the business is performing exceptionally well, it could still be a bargain. I'm still looking for companies to make additions to my $350K portfolio, to boost performance. Here for ideas

In my opinion, a housing market crash is imminent due to the high number of individuals who purchased homes above the asking price despite the low interest rates. These buyers find themselves in precarious situations as housing prices decline, leaving them without any equity. If they become unable to afford their homes, foreclosure becomes a likely outcome. Even attempting to sell would not yield any profits. This scenario is expected to impact a significant number of people, particularly in light of the anticipated surge in layoffs and the rapid increase in the cost of living..

Nah this won’t really happen and isn’t how it works. Purchasing above asking price does not matter, if a home is listed for 800k and someone offers 850k they can still only buy it if they are pre-approved for 850k. Simply paying over list doesn’t mean they are buying outside of their means. Additionally, appraisers are used for that reason. The appraiser needs to check the property and provide an appraisal report. If the appraiser says it’s only worth 800k, not 850k, then the borrower needs to pay they the difference out of pocket or renegotiate. The lender will not provide financing for the property otherwise so there is no additional default risk (back to does the client qualify or not). Almost all the loans the past few years were fixed so there’s no real risk of adjustable rates destroying current home owners mortgage payment capabilities. Equity is irrelevant so long as they can pay, which they should be able to given they qualified with the increased standards set in place after ‘08. I know everyone wants to cheer for a real estate collapse. ‘08 will never happen again, you’re looking at maybe a 10-20% correction which has largely already occurred in some areas and otherwise wasn’t enough to leave people underwater on their loans since the appreciation for 90% of them is plenty to offset any drops. Additionally the housing prices stayed similar even with rates climbing which means should the rates drop again, affordability improves, and the cost of homes will surge (not as much as last time) once again. So yeah, no crash happening here and people who have been saying that the last few years missed out on hundreds of thousands in appreciation. The only thing that will move the needs is a larger economic collapse or trigger that will force many to sell to try and tap into the appreciation they have now, this will increase supply, and that may start a bidding/selling war towards the bottom (which again, wont be more than 20% or so). In any case it would take a LOT to get people to drop out of their 3% fixed rates, you have a much larger economic issue at hand if people were selling their homes in large volumes with their fixed rates, the housing market would be the least of our concern at that time.

The 2008 housing bubble wasn't because of the homeowners foreclosing and losing their homes alone. It was because the lending banks gave the loans to people who couldn't afford the mortgage to begin with along with those same banks turning around and reselling these mortgages as very risky and complex securities called MSBs. Due to the fact that a lot of these questionable mortgages also had variable interest rates and with interest rates raising, many homeowners couldn't pay. So, the house of cards collapsed. These dubious mortgages are no longer possible along with the MSBs. So, if more homes go into foreclosure (for other reasons than rising interest rates, as that is no longer possible), it won't topple the banks or financial markets, as the lending banks can no longer use their float or resell their mortgage loans in hedge funds or derivatives, due to the laws put in place after 2008, like Frank-Dodd. That isn't to say you are wrong and a correction isn't going to happen. In fact, I too believe it is already started. It's just that the effect won't be so pronounced, due to the regulation put in place as lessons learned from 2008. In other words, it isn't going to be a bubble popping.

My portfolio for the past 30 years has always been self managed and I own 3 shares of Berkshire Hathaway Class A stock (BRK:A) which I bought in at about $17,000 during the mid 90s, I’m currently liquidating some of these positions to incoporate new Gen. Stocks, but am I better off re-investing into Gold as it seems stocks are a little too unstable right now.

Munger and Buffett have both achieved an incredible feat with Berkshire. They've turned thousands to billions, and have made a lot of people wealthy in the process. I really saw the potential of the stock market by reading Berkshire's annual letters. I recently sold my $674k apartment in the Bel Air area and I'm hoping to throw it into the stock market. I just don't want to lose everything.

Most people either do not understand the power of compound interest, or are just impatient. For the average Joe, however, I think it is just best to invest in the S&P 500, and just wait, which is reliable, albeit extremely long-- lots of years. Or just use a professional analyst and speed up wealth creation. Most people underestimate the power of the latter.

Warren Buffett's tribute to Charlie Munger as the architect of Berkshire Hathaway while positioning himself as the daily contractor ensuring the solidity of the foundation speaks volumes about their extraordinary partnership. It showcases not only their deep professional respect but also the personal bond they share. Buffett's description of Munger as a business partner, loving brother, and father figure highlights the depth of their relationship and the mutual admiration they have for each other. Their ability to work together harmoniously and complement each other's strengths is a rare and remarkable quality, especially in the corporate world. Their partnership serves as an inspiring example of how collaboration, trust, and mutual respect can lead to long-term success and enduring legacy. It's a testament to the power of genuine friendship and shared values in business.

Make frequent, early, and sustained investments. Long-term success should be assured if you purchase a quality cross section of the economy. In ten to twenty years, the market will be high, and in thirty, it will be even higher. A debt-free corporation is nearly hard to bankrupt. About 3% of the world market is accounted for by Canada, 50% by the United States, and 47% by the rest of the world. Prioritize paying yourself. Time is of the essence in the market, not timing. I maintain market leadership with my FA Anna Rounds Fay. Pigs are killed, but bears and bulls profit. - some astute remarks

Really good video. If Buffett is struggling to find good investment opportunities because of Berkshire’s size, why is everyone trying to copy their top positions? Is not more appealing to copy their smaller positions if you’re managing less than a million? It can make your money work more aggressively for you.

😂 if only I did! But it’s really just a statement of fact. The UK stock market is near all time highs in terms of its discount to the USA especially in terms of SMID cap stocks. So there are many UK stocks that are massively cheaper and better value than their US peers. With the USA markets around all time highs I think there are some fantastic opportunities in the UK. I do have Financial market experience as I was a Broker to Hedge & Long fund managers in the UK & Europe for nearly 30 years and head of Sales for around 10 years. Warren Buffet is a fantastic Fund Manager but the real problem is not that their aren’t companies of real value & quality in other markets but rather that because of the size of the funds he now manages that positions in small or medium businesses don’t really move the dial for his funds even if they move up 15%.

Not least because I personally wouldn't buy an Apple phone if you paid me. I hate Apple almost as much as I hate Microsoft. I said "almost". I also hate Coke. And "peanut brittles", which Warren and Charlie always have/had on the desk in front of them at meetings: those sound frankly VILE.

One thing about speculating market crashes not happening like 2008 or 2001 - probably may be right or wrong. But we don’t need to wait for that. Time to time, there are different segments of market that would go down if not entire market and especially some individual stocks can be targeted more than necessary by sentiments. For instance charles schwab stock was hammered after silicon valley bank collapsed. Those i think are still good opportunities to make money.

I follow the Buffett approach in chasing steady 15% annual returns and avoiding losses at all costs. But, I don’t seriously invest in equities as I’m just not built emotionally to do it like him. He is absolutely right that compounding 15% a year over the long term will compensate for a lot of foolishness and inaction for decades.
