Thanks for the tip on the wing attach points. I found a few more issues with my Habu STS. With the 3S all the way forward the one strap would not secure the battery as HH had glued the straps in place preventing them from being pulled tight. I used velcro tape to help hold the battery in place. The included battery is labeled as a 4000 mAh 30C. When charged with a smart charger (with the current updates) it displays as 20C. If you only use the included charger you would never know this. I am waiting to hear back from HH customer support on this issue. After a few flights I noticed that the nose gear was loose. Upon further inspection I found that the frame securing the nose gear to the fuselage was glued in two small places and had come loose. I glued the frame securely with 5-minute epoxy. My flying field has a black asphalt runway and when using the Landing Assist Sensor (LAS) I have found that this causes the plane to balloon at the same time as I am flaring to land. HH states in their videos that the LAS works best on light colored surfaces or grass. They do not say anything about the performance on dark surfaces. Hope this helps new buyers. YMMV.

These are all good valid points with the RTF Habu. I have the PNP or the one where you supply the receiver. I also found the nose wheel to be a bit loose. I do not have the LAS but found DuBro low bounce wheels to be a great help. Thanks for sharing and i subded to you.

Hi, I have the Habu STS .. love it.. haven't flown much since 1989 . I have found the ground wire from the esc was not soldered right into the connector . luckily I noticed it before I flew. Also after my 10th flight I lost elevator control in Safe. Did a touch and go turned and before I could get a lot of alt I had no elevator at all . I cut throttle and hoped for the best . It is repaired now, I replaced the receiver, all the wiring and the elevator servo to be sure I got it .. as it all worked when I got to the plane after the crash, Also I had intermittent connection on the wing servo connector , I just replace every wire in the plane to be safe.

@@FatGuyFliesRC Well my last flight got wind whipped on landing, kind of did a cartwheel, cracked the wing about halfway back on one side next to fuselage. Out comes E6000 and jury rigged something to hold it all in place till it set, then I used fiberglass drywall tape to reinforce the repair. (Photos) The tape is self adhesive, I squirted E 6000 on the tape and used a bondo spreader to just skim the tape. Don’t know if it helps but it cant hurt. Worried about weight and balance so I applied the mesh tape and E6000 to the other side of the wing that was not broken, maybe make it stronger. Anywho, I figured I would pass this along. The hash marks are for how many flights, the two dots are for C/G. Regards, John

Good luck finding the stall point. I spent the weekend looking for them. The manual says that you need to be under 20% throttle to bring it down for landing in Beginner and Intermediate modes. It means it. If not, the telemetry controls will make it bounce up and prevent you from descending at that throttle level. Remember, it's also a trainer. So, it has comparable lift at low speeds to match. The LAS option to help newbies flare is great because you need to be nose up and the crazy lift makes it that much harder to achieve, especially if a Newbie. It might be easier, or less scary, for a Newbie to start with a slower high wing trainer and not progress to the Habu until they can fly the high wing on Experienced with 60 to 70% throttle to get used to the faster speeds and input responses. I had only been on my AeroScout and that's what my trainer suggested. He was absolutely right! That throttle matched the range where I found the 3S to have stable power and trim in Experienced using the Simulator. Less was required in 4S. In Beginner or Intermediate, it has lift for days like the other HH trainers. You can even deadstick land it no worries by easily keeping the nose up. Now I just need to test it at the field this weekend. If a newbie is going to start high wing, being able to land and flare the Trainer at touch and go speeds is also advisable before progression. But if you start with this plane using only the simulator and get used to always applying the higher throttle, then there’s less to relearn when transitioning to EDFs.

What's funny to me about this video is you didn't show any of the problems you encountered you just pointed out. The E-flight Habu STS is the best plane to start flying. with all of it's safety features It's almost impossible to crash, the key is in the beginning fly in the same direction or circle pattern, when possible use landing gear when possible, practice landings before the battery gets too low and take offs all you have to do is hit the throttle it will take off by itself once up back off the throttle and have fun and "remember" if you loose control hit the panic button it will level the plane off right away and save you from a crash.

I was itching to get in to RC Planes, back in 1989 I built a PT-40 was taught from a guy that had a hobby store in town. Schwabach Germany. Then I also flew some Foam planes for the Army that we would shoot down during live fire exercises, Throttle and Aileron is all they had. Came back, crashed my PT-40 and got rid of it. So 30 years later I was itching to get into flying and the F-15 and F-16 is what I really wanted. Then Horizon announced the Habu STS and I pre-ordered immediately. This plane is absolutely a Great first plane, That PT-40 is crap compared to this! I plan to post my videos, because the problem with every single review I've seen the pilot has experience Period. They don't remember what it's like to be a newbie because you have muscle memory no matter what. Well I don't, and what I decided to do after a 4 or 5 nights using the simulator was to SEND IT! I have horse pastures so I decided to take the landing gear off and hand launch. This plane is so easy to land, my neighbor kid that is 10 did it with only prior experience with a rc truck. This plane just floats down especially if you can land into the wind. I've got well over 20 flights in now and I fly in advanced mode about 50% of the time so I can do loops and rolls. Yeah, good luck finding the stall point.... I can get it to stall when going full throttle straight up and then kill the throttle, other than that it hasn't stalled on me unexpectedly. I now own the E-Flight F-15, man I love that plane! That's another easy fly, no landing gear just grab nose point up and full throttle and off she goes! I have 10 flights with that one now. I just ordered the Arrows Mig 29 to add to my collection. I'm hoping I can hand launch and belly land in the grass so I won't be using the retracts :( but that plane looks soo good! BTW the F-15 I fly with ordnance, and it doesn't feel nose heavy at all. Hot Glue is my Friend, Good video, Happy Flying, Peace.. Brian.

You picked an awesome beginner friendly EDF. This baby floats forever, but that is also a concern. Landing her is a challenge because she does not want to land. ...LOL. But to land get a nice long and level approach and come in as low as you feel comfortable and let her settle in with nice SLIGHT flare at touch down. Then as your rolling solid keep on the rudder. The gear are pretty tough but the wheels are hard. I suggest Dubros low bounce tires. Also 100% throws with 30%expo all controls , she is a sweetheart and is a dream to fly. Careful on grass landing to keep loose grass out of the air inlet. It will wrap around the ducted fan and you will think my motor is going bad and its just grass. Also i subded to you.

I hate bothering you again but what were the low bounce tires that you got for the STS jet I didn't fly the jet real good but I'm using the tires they will work right on the T28 and they're bigger and it seems to be handling better whenever I land but I want to get those low bounce tires cuz it still does have a little bounce

@@FatGuyFliesRC I also have a great tip for the T28 the wheels on mine started getting kind of wobbly so here's what I done the jet I don't like flying the Habu as much as I do the T28 so I took the wheels I took the physical wheels and the wheel I guess keepers you know the little silver things on the outside with the screw in them those fit very snug on the T28 but they roll so much better and the steering is tighter The landings are so much better and the takeoffs are indeed quicker I don't know who might need to read this but you can share it on your channel if you want to just you help me out so there you go I'm buying these wheels but not for the STS I'm buying them for the T28 and thank you so much I appreciate you have a blessed evening

Oh I do have a warning for the T28 the circlip Holding my motor shaft in against the back bearing, that came out or came off it was a loud screeching sound whenever I accelerated to gain altitude and whenthat came out or came off my motor bellhousing went forward because there was nothing holding it in it's place which cost me to hit a tree. I think horizon Hobby is going to fix it ,because Im thinking it had to be a defect. my cowl isnot scratched it's just when that bell housing came a loose from when that circlip popped off it chewed up a little spot on the inside and then of course whenever I went down into the tree there's all kinds of damage. has anyone reading this heard of this happening before I have several planes and drones and I have not had this happen to a brushless motor that I have owned before. So anyone reading this check your circlip on the back of your engine, make sure it is all the way in the groove if mine was like that it's a possibility there are others and by all means if you hear a loud screeching sound coming from your motor stop it and land immediately

@Fat Guy Flies RC Yes it was very nice fly this plane. 😁 Can i ask you one question your Edf Jet the Habo do you have sound from the front weel the you pull rudder full right? Mine clicks like it Comes to long and its only at that full right side. Must take it apart was like this from the first assembly before flight.??? And its not the cabel how is styck checked that before the Maiden flight. You can hear this in my video.

Its the end of the control servo are rubbing. I take it just like me you have had a less than spectacular landing??? lol. Just remove the wheel rudder assembly , clip a bit off the end on the control are and reasemble..problem solved. What happen was on that not so great landing it caused a very slight bend in the rudder shaft and now the rudder servo are rubs on the plastic housing and yes only with right rudder. Easy fix!

@@FatGuyFliesRC super i see but it was like that from scratch after the build. Will take it apart and fix it then. After 5 minutes of flight it was better. Thanxs so a easy fix then. 😀

The wing joints would not line up & the connectors in the wing for the various servos needed to be pushed in from inside. The receiver would not stay bound (had to be bound each time you connected a battery) the local group replaced the receiver & I returned the original to the supplier.

Looking for any feedback on the Habu STS landing gear. Our field grass is a bit rough and our runway is also a bit rough, narrow and short. As stated in this video, the jet runs a long way after landing so it's hard to keep it on the runway. By the fourth landing the front wheel strut snapped off and the wing struts are bent. Any comments on landing gear experience. The jet flies great but in my opinion the landing gear is )(&%&^$.

What the plane would really benefit from is flaps. That would give it shorter take offs and a shorter landing. That in turn would be less time on the gear. They brand this plane as being able to handle grass ops. No EDF should be in the grass if not for the grass intake into the air intake. No that's my rant and opinion. The Habu has very strong gear for runway abuse and ok gear for grass abuse. Unless your going to install flaps I suggest get rid of the gear and hand launch. As I said earlier be careful with grass in the air intake, it winds around the EDF motor where you cannot see it and then you thinking," This stupid model is losing power, Eflite products suck!" when grass is the culprit. Hope this kinda helps. I dont have quick and cheap fix for your problem I am afraid.

Fair point about the hard points not being glued in. But really, it sucks in grass. Of course it does all ducted fans do, it’s called FOD. That’s not really any news is it, you have made this video and while you may not have meant to you are inferring that the Habu has an issue that others do not. It’s a ducted fan. You have not mentioned that it has SAFE or the panic switch. Personally I agree with most of your rant about learning to fly. Just don’t agree with what you infer, and 5000mah batteries why bring that up, it’s not designed for it, you don’t like modifying the plane but you cut away a bit of the foam and install a bigger than recommended battery which will make it heavier. This is modifying and makes no sense.

@@FatGuyFliesRC I'm in SWFL and hope we cross paths sometime soon. I'm new to RC Aircraft and let myself get sucked into the Habu STS. The trainer at my new club has set me straight and he's training me on his trainer aircraft. I think it will now be sometime before I get my Habu into the air. Great videos and I'm looking for more on this aircraft. Thanks.
