Ойындар

What exactly is Wargroove? A new turn-based strategy tactics game inspired by the classics. Game Review & Mechanics Introduction, Pros & Cons discussion, comparisons, AI, and features list. How does Wargroove compare to Advance Wars and how does it hold up as a game overall? In this video I also discuss Commanders, Reinforce mechanics, capturing structures, fog of war, campaign missions, soundtrack, difficulty, and first impressions. I'd be happy to cover the rest so let me know.

Thank you so much for your patience everyone between uploads. I've been working on this game review for the past few weeks. If anyone would be interested in helping me with production then feel free to message me on Twitter. I'd like to be able to get out more "video essays" for a wide variety of games and topics. Special shout outs to my Patreon supporters and everyone for funding this video. Wargroove is a great game that is not without its flaws, but even if the game is not for you, I hope that my review was enjoyable. Best wishes always, - Resonance22

if anyone wants to know how extensive the map creator tools really are: people have made full campaigns, made the skyrim intro as a cutscene, and someone even build an actual functional slot machine map in this game. I'm personally working on a wave defense map, because that's also possible. can't wait for someone to build a computer in Wargroove. also, Sigrid is best girl

I could never get into these turn based tactic games, and or turn based strategy games, especially these grid movement ones, like Advance Wars. I'm *just* about able to tolerate Valkyria Chronicles and the Total War series, which have some turn based elements to it but they're *completely* different games. Aside from that, the game's art style looks amazing, the game itself looks like it has a good pace to it, looks very fluid, and the music is.. completely something else (in a good way). The way you review it makes it sound even better.

Request for video: Unit breakdown/general strategy? Also, I'd love to see what your in-depth views are on ocean battles in this game, as they were kinda pretty bad in Advance Wars.

Thanks MayhemMessiah for the suggestions, these are always helpful. I'll keep an eye on my comments and Twitter. I'm very interested in doing videos on those topics and perhaps a quick strategy guide for one of the more notoriously difficult early missions. Why the ocean combat in Advance Wars was generally lackluster is a fascinating subject.

@@Resonance22Channel Indeed! Water usually didn't hold any value to control, while making your ground/air army weaker, and sea units were super expensive AND glass cannons (subs could down the most expensive unit in the game with one hit, while also potentially downing up to two air units). In wargroove, their costs are less extreme AND there's the fascinating merman unit, AND there's ocean cities which means you have an incentive to take to the ocean. This game is just so GOOD ugh

I've just started playing this. Looks like there have been lots of updates, including extra commanders and mechanics. I'm very happy, although some maps are very long! Takes the edge off my Disgaea 6 blues. Thanks dood ;-)

Yes yes yes! I'm really hooked to this game, and agree with basicly anything you said in this review. I'd love to see more content of this game and would 100% watch things like Educational content or PvP battles. You said that there are no checkpoints in the (long) campaign battles but I think the game asks you to continue where you quit if you Alt+F4 while getting smashed by the AI (for PC at least).

Great review! I haven't played a lot of turn based strategy games similar to this one previously despite being a big strategy fan in general, but this game really drew me in immediately. 100% yes to more Wargroove content of all types. Chucklefish also announced they are updating the effective against and vulnerable to graphics to generic unit type symbols which was one thing high on my wishlist of fixes. They're also adding full sprites for the unit types as pop ups when you hover over each icon as well. Link to their tweet twitter.com/WargrooveGame/status/1091305412282830848

I had no idea about the game before it came out. Though now my friend and I are playing and enjoying this game. Its very much like advanced wars. I would like to see some minor improvements to the game. I also would love to see support for moddable custom races.

*pleads* why you always make me want to buy gaaaaamess...! (this must be what people feel like when they watch instagram influencers and then buy stuff, huh?) Ok actually regarding the game: It sounds really great. I mean, you talked a lot about it on the discord already and I watched it a little during the last stream. I didn't know what to make of it then, but I understand why you love it. It seems really intricate and detailed and strategic with lovely music and lovely design. Makes for a great game, I have to say. You really pick great indie games. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it yet. (Any idea on a ps4 release date?) Your overview/introduction is really great - I like the explanations on how the game works before you jump into some "overview" and (constructive) criticism. If chucklefish really care about improving it, they should listen to some of your suggestions. I'm really looking forward to the next stream I can fully attend and until then, many thanks for putting this much effort and work into this video. Looks great Res, as always!

Tbh I don't know if it's me but I got a huge problems with the game's balancing and level of difficulty. Don't get me wrong, I love this game. But compared to Mario + Rabbids, (at some point) this game is just utterly frustrating. Especially because one single turn takes SO long. I know there's a feature to set up your own level of difficulty, but ofc we all want those 3 stars. I'm just really struggling with the enemies damage and KI, is this sort of relatable or am I nuts?

  • @Resonance22Channel

This is definitely relatable Dat Edits! I think the campaign missions are too long for how difficult they are. The sliders are great but only being able to get 1 star with minor tweaks is a problem. Good news is the next patch will add actual difficulty options (medium gives 3 stars) and 1 checkpoint per mission. I'm looking forward to it

Hi Ege, do you mean in the video or in general? I showed some clips of units getting "critical hits" by fulfilling their unique conditions, like Cavalry charging for 6 tiles. So there are some bulkier units like Dragons. The game does have a lot of "hard counters" though, like Mages usually 1 hit KO most air units. This has its pros and cons.

Things like defensive terrain and tactical situations where you're forced to use sub optimal units to attack also make multiple hits to kill a pretty common occurrence.

While I liked the core gameplay, I cannot help but think they missed big one here. The story is just so... meh... They have some potential in characters from the start but the overall clown-style approach ruins it for me. Maybe I am just getting older, but I think a more adult tone of storytelling without the clunky humor would be way more appoachable for a wider audience. Well thats at least what I thought after playing through.
