    I'm pretty sure the square plate bolted to the ceiling is the interior cap of an emergency exit shaft, coincidence is that as a little kid in the mid 80s I explored the back yard air raid shelter emergency exit of my folks place, the folks in ww2 and the cold war had ran cable and air ducting through the sand ballast filling the exit shaft, your shelter seems familiar just bigger lol

    I’d suggest a little oasis island for your new stack to make it more pleasantly visible to parking lot traffic. But with your sense of humor maybe a large “CAUTION RADIOACTIVE WASTE VENTILATION AREA” attached to a 4x4 foot, razor wire topped, chain link fence around it. Great video and patter!

    Agree with the other comment, Fairly sure the sand is because this was designed to be an escape hatch. unbolt the plate, it falls, sand falls, and you can get out. Other thing, looks like a fan housing is attached to the plate. Possibly used as a exhaust fan.

    I would dig a trench about a foot down and extend the pipe under your driveway with a metal pipe and move it away from the center of your driveway and have it come up somewhere that wont be in the way then back-fill the trench. Just make sure you use a thick enough metal pipe that you will be able to drive over the pipe without crushing it.

    For scoping out pipes you can get some synflex/dakabon tubing slightly bigger than the scope and shove it deep into the duct and then run the borescope up the synflex tubing. You can also attach the synflex or some braided tubing (for larger debris) to a vacuum to clean around corners.

    I think you could do the same thing with a roll of PEX from the hardware store for a lot cheaper. Put the camera in a 1" pex, and that will navigate the twists and turns in the pipe better. It's almost what genuine sewer snake cameras use (but I think they use some kind of flexible fiberglass pipe)

  • @azazeldeath
    @azazeldeath3 ай бұрын

    Best day ever when herb posts a video. Thank you so much for making my day actually go from trash to good. Edit: Also unasked for youtube comment advice, get those pipes sleeved. You can get them done pretty cheap now with the air powered self guiding liners. That way you have less chance of ever getting water/sand into the pipes from a rusty joint.

  • @brianmccann666
    @brianmccann6663 ай бұрын

    I would suggest buying the cameras that plumbers use to explore drains. Bends better and fits in any pipe. Also buy 100' long shop vac hose to suck out or blow out those pipes.

    Don't know about the sand around the hole, but this also could have been built as kind of an emergency exit. You unscrew the bolts on the plate and it comes down with a defined amount of loose sand and gravel (without filling up the whole bunker) and provides you a direct way out. So you would be able to leave even if the main exit is blocked or has fallen in (provided you stashed a long enough ladder down below and the bolts are not rusted solid until now). EDIT: I see @DeeFPV already had the same idea 40mins ago.....

  • @HerbOMatic

    @HerbOMatic

    3 ай бұрын

    I never thought of that but it makes since why would there be a reinforced plate there otherwise. I think it was originally just an escape and someone added a vent as an afterthought! I have more to check out now!

As for making money out of it, you could try breeding exotic animals and sale them on the black market or just go old school and grow some pot 🌿. By the way I never knew red grease was so versatile. Wow! That bird was hilarious😆 As is pretty much the whole video. Um, with all of your stuff... Dont you own a metal detector? I mean, you could have measured it (with a tape measure...), to narrow down the area and found it in 10 minutes. Which you could do with the other hole now. Frankly after seeing what you have, i am astonished that the whole shelter wasnt full of rain water coming thru those multiple holes. Anyway, now that you have that hole found at ground level, next step is to find out if they are connected. Id suggest getting a small LED bulb and plug it into an extension cord and drop it down the hole and see if you can find a 'T' or 'y', etc. By putting the cam back up the other hole with the fish sticks to see if you can find the light! By the way, now that youll have a vent on each end, I bet your humidity will drop like a stone rapidly with a continuous air exchange.

    I work for the AZ Highway Patrol and about a month ago I passed by your house by coincidence and did a double take when I glanced at the apartment building on your east side. Let's just say you live quite close to where I work; I was on a one-way street and used your street as a cut across to make a loop back to the reverse direction. I so very much wanted to knock on your door to see if I could tour the shelter but thought you guys likely didn't want to be bothered with tourists. But it was neat to see the shelter hatch from the street at least....or perhaps I should say from the Avenue.

    Im only at 9:16 into this, and my thoughts are: 1. Get a piece of 9x18mm trunking, remove the lid and tape the camera to it, then use that to poke it around the corner and onwards. (I have spent hundreds of hours fishing cables like this professionally). 2. I wonder if you could use a smoke tester to work out if theres an outlet? In any case, thanks for another installment. Edit: now at 17:00 and you are about to use fish rods, but the downside of those vs a peice of plastic trunking lid, is you cant set a bend in the end of them like you can with trunking lid. #JustSaying

    I've never thought of that. I gotta get better at sneaking cameras around all these bends.

    Get yourselves a manual air handling system and ventilate it often! Screw the wood burning stove! The carbon monoxide would kill everyone in the shelter! Also, you could consider disguising the vent pipes as parking lot ballards, or something. I was just wondering about you guys the other day! Great to see ya'll and love your antics!

    great idea disguising the vents, or extend them to a nearby fence, with matching the height, where it won’t be noticed by the Zombies 😂

    Would be easy to make a adapter and run a air hose down there and pressurize the pipe and thewn go on to and listen for air. Look in the shop wall by the breaker panel,there could be a connection in there.

    You could reroute the vent to another place that isn't in the middle of the parking lot :)

    Next time you ought to pump smoke through the pipe. It’s probably that vent that’s outside.
