I literally have never watched a video, but I just stopped by to say that intro made me LOL
I worked with a old guy doing construction and we'd work on older homes and fix a lot of termite damage. Sometimes there would be a whole wall eaten up, just termite dust, except one stud would still be standing completely untouched by the termites. I asked one time why they didn't eat that particular one and the old dude just said "some are tastier than others". I remembered that story when you mentioned some furniture got eaten and some didn't.
@Calamity_Jack

I noticed one chair had a label that said "chemically treated" and it wasn't eaten. Maybe that's a reason why some didn't get chomped on too. Health-conscious termites.

Secondary Reply: I was surprised that even in Arizona the below ground (at least earth sheltered) temp gets into the 90s. Maybe if you painted the steel surface hatch with highly reflective Rust-Oleum or tented and shaded it, it might lower the temp a few degrees. If that works you might seal and insulate the hatch and the shelter doorway too. If isn’t possible just install a solar powered exhaust vent in the entrance space. It would probably take several days to notice any, if any, drop in temp because of the heat holding capacity of the enormous concrete mass. As you can see I’m heavily invested in your project. Wish I was your neighbor!

Ok guys,. I think we can all agree on the following rule; Repeat after me... " There shall be absolutely NO WOOD permitted in the bomb shelter henceforth !!!! " Any objections? If so, you'll be locked out of the bomb shelter when the time comes! 😁 The Mrs. had a good point... It's a wonder there was anything left besides the metal by the time you got to the dump. Absolutely no integrity to what was once wood. Yikes! With that high humidity, you need a good sized dehumidifier or mini-split air conditioner just to bring down that level of dampness. By the way, as far as the heat... You should find a way to insulate that steel cover - like some of that white coating they use as spray for bed liner in truck beds. I see also that you haven't yet added your hooks on the wall with your emergency escape ladder. A word of warning ⚠️ Be extremely careful with those old tanks!!! If with all that humidity and stuff, those bolts may be as corroded as the wood was rotted! You don't need those damn things falling on you, that would be a really bad day! 🤕 Once you do get those down and out, you should probably rip out all those dry wall or whatever wallboard that is. I guess what I am saying is; looks like you should blow everything out to the concrete and clean, clean, clean and the rebuild everything. Going to be interesting (and messy) to blow out all the feed through holes too for the electric, plumbing, etc. You talked about the sewer lines. Depending on when they put those in and your elevation. You could have city sewer lines down 12 to 15 feet up there. Check with your city wastewater and ask what they have on file for them. If they aren't that deep, you probably have a macerator pump some place in there that grinds up the solids then uses a bunch of water to pump it up to level. That's what the Air Force did with the ICBM Sites. Good luck.

Since I did see anyone address your squirrel question about the little stones, I found this on the internet. "Gray Squirrels are scatter food-hoarders, caching food items in a wide variety of sites. When squirrel populations become dense and/or when food becomes scarce, the pilfering of caches by other squirrels becomes a problem. Caching stones, pebbles or other items may be an attempt to confuse/foil potential pilferers."
Just found this channel..awsome..keep up the great vids

Nice to see you guy getting down and dirty to some classical music by Strauss. @jerichojoe307
Жыл бұрын
I keep seeing these comments regarding getting stuck if the power goes out. Is it me or is everybody forgetting that that winch originally had a hand-crank? Even if the power goes out it wouldn't be hard to swap it over to hand power. All he needs to do is keep some tools down there for that purpose if necessary. Or simply climbing the lift itself like a ladder. In all honesty I would be more concerned with the door getting stuck in the event of a heavy storm like knocking a tree down or something. But in that case I would also think about installing a hand-cranked opener with a detachable handle on multiplier pulleys that could force a heavy load to open the door if something like that would happen. It wouldn't inhibit the use of the door but would allow the force needed to force that door open if necessary by simply putting the handle on and turning it. People forget the power of pulley systems and cables when there is no power.
Some of those chair were really cool. Termites killed the mood!!!!! Yet crushing them was worth the wait!

@@HerbOMatic lol no worries actual first time I've seen the damage termites have done . Its crazy how they destroyed everything.
You should put 2 old car tires chained together on the trailer floor. Use a long chain that reaches well past end of trailer. Then load trash on top of tires and floor. When you get to dump, ask equipment operator to pull your long chain. In my experience, they always go for it. Now relax and see how fast you get your load off. There may be a little left for you to clean up afterwards but really no big deal. Good luck at the dump!
The titanic reference actually made me think more of Mark Rober's squirrel maze video... which ties in too.

Might I make a suggestion. You have a single point of failure on your elevator. If the motor or the breaker pops, you are stuck down stairs. You could add some horizontal braces in your elevator to be used as steps. Also, with an Arduino, you could automate the lift of the elevator when the access is fully opened and have a button to bring the elevator all the way down and all the way up in parallel to your current control. You would also have to add an emergency stop button. That would be too cool.
Iam sure the two of you enjoyed showering together. Cleaning off all the termite dust etc. That light in the bathroom is called a jam jar light. When you remove the toilet. Have everything ready to seal the pipe. To prevent sewer gas or something with legs to climb out. Can't wait to see how it will look after pressure wash.
