Corey, thanks a lot for your great video. I had to insulate a wall after replacing a patio door with a window. I was a construction electrician years ago & your method is what I remember. Thanks for the reminder tips.
Nice to see someone doing a truly professional job and taking pride in their work. I am planning on insulating my garage and this is great advice.
Great way to show how the project should be done, straight to the point and explains his moves very well.WELL DONE.
Great and very helpful video! I'll be starting the insulation on our new sunroom addition today and went to look for ideas on going around the wiring and boxes. Usually I bounce through multiple videos to eventually get to one that makes sense. Yours was the first I got to and the last. Very informational with no fluff. Thanks!!!!
One of the best videos in terms of being helpful with my insulation installation. Thank you!
Thank you for making this so straight forward and easy to follow!
Another awesome video by the man of insulation! Great vid, keep them coming.
Corey, thanks for taking the time to make this video. It'll come handy on my house project. Cheers!
i really really wish the average sub-contractor would put in this much care into projects

Those pricks don't care. They're all about slam it in as quickly as possible, get paid and then run off to the next crappy quality job. Yes, I am an expert.....watched the shitty work for 32 years commercial construction, now retired thank god. No many clowns with no pride at all in their lousy work.

Seriously... I'm discovering this looking into old work. I'm more of a car/motorcycle guy, but the same principle applies: It's ACTUALLY easier to do it the right way. It literally takes more effort to halfass things, not even considering "re-work". Just amazing, impressive how far some folks will go to screw things up, thinking it'll "save time".😂
Man, you are good at what you do. I enjoyed watching thank you.
Simple and to the point. Great 👍 video. Off to the garage to insulate.
Excellent! Thanks for the tips. Nice work.
Good job by the way . Very clean looking , I am redoing my whole house right now .
Split insulation - Genius. Thanks buddy!
This was a very helpful video from beginning to end! Thank you!
I'm on a job doing insulation right now and I sprayed some of that foam behind all the outlets and I was hoping I'd had done the right thing. Thanks for assuring me I have
clean and concise video man, thanks for the tips
Excellent video! You fit a lot of info into a short video, thanks!
"Very professional " very helpful, thank you!
Fantastic techniques and detailed explanations!
Rockwool say not to completely cover wires with insulation as it can cause the wires to potentially run too hot - be careful people.
Thank you for your wonderful videos!
Thanks for the Vid. This made this much easier as I am new at this.
Late, this really helped me. I'm renovating my dad's garage into a bedroom since my room inside my house is small and I need more space. Just got a powerpoint installed which gives me time to learn how to do the electrical parts lol. Would have gotten a professional electrician to do the job just for safety, but I reckon its more cheaper and gives me time to learn when you have the equipment and determination :)
Great video and awesome ideas. Thanks a lot!!!
Great craftsmanship!👏🏻👍🏻💪🏻
Straight to the point. Thanks you!
Thank you! This is exactly what i needed
"Be sure to cut as CLOSE as you can physically get to the wire!"😂 KIDDING! Just sketched me out watching, as a first-timer. But I was wondering about doing what you called a "filet". This work isn't hard to do, but Im aware it's REAL easy to screw up, in trade. Glad to know my idea is confirmed and approved. Thanks!!
Not what I was looking for but had to finish watching this, he is so cute! :)

Thank you . This is very helpful !!!
Thanks for these videos.
Great Video!! Thanks! I was wondering how to install around and electrical panel though
Thank for the video it helps a lot I'm gonna try this at work lol
Great Video, Thank You !
great video, thanks man.
Good video, im just starting to insulate my shop, huge amount of wires, it seemed to be impossible to insulate around them. Just watched this video, doesn't seem as bad now. I was thinking about cutting the back of the insulation but didn't really know if that was acceptable, looks like it is.🙂 Thanks again.
Nice to see someone doing the work with care. These contractors here in Toronto that builders hire do a very shitty job. Always got draft air around electrical boxes on exterior walls.
great video!!!
Great video.
Thanks for the video . I was a glazier for 30 years and and walking through jobsites I would always pay attention lol I just needed brushing up I guess .
thanks that....no blah blah ....real clear and to the point
Nice job,.. good video, Thanks
good info!!!! Thanks so much.
Beautiful work. :)
Damn I wish this guy was installing my insulation right now. I'm probably getting grade III installed and when I brought it up the guy clearly didn't know how to install properly or didn't care... This guy's work must be pretty good grade I.
great tips! even though i found this 8 years later.
Good information...thanks.
Thanks for sharing skill trade. Do I need a longer blade to cut R-19 or do I just press down harder?
Do you have a video or any suggestions on (easily) adding vapour barrier around all of the boxes on the outside walls of a house where somebody basically just cut the vapour barrier to size around the boxes...but did not wrap them in any way or use self sealing boxes. I really don't want to remove the drywall but am a little concerned about the humidity in our house getting in the wall cavities now that we have a high efficiency furnace.
thanks man really helpful I have a lot more cables maybe I can use same method ok
Hey Corey, was that cable live when you did that with your knife?
PL Foam board adhesive didn't know it existed Thanks
Thanks foe loading this, great tips. Now I know what to do. But in some places the wire outlet is not even nailed,screwed, or stample to the wall, its just hanging down in the middle, jet lag did it wrong. How can I correct this problem, the outlet will not reach to the outer wall or board, its hanging in the middle. So how I insulate this type of outlet problem, please help.
if you use the foam board behind the outlet, do you also use fiberglass over the foam board?
Any difference if I was doing this to a detached garage wall?
In Finland, installed electrical wiring on top of the thermal insulation to the wires from overheating
@CC-jy4gr

cause you know whats up finland!
In some places you staple the flap over on the 2 x 4. IN other places you tuck it in. Which is correct?
So when you cut around that last outlet...you cut away the insulation. Did you put foam board behind it or one of your first three methods? You did not clarify.
I don't know about regulations in other Countries, but in the UK I thought you shouldn't have any insulation around wires AT ALL, and there should be a gap, because wires get hot when under load, so insulating them will increase your risk of fire especially in summer. Have I been advised wrongly?

Fiberglass insulation is not combustible it won't catch on fire you could melt it with a torch but that's abou it.

Pedro Duran What about the plastic sleeve of the wiring or the wooden stud work? If the wire resting against this goes up due to the excess heat it's game over. Unless the circuit breaker kicks in to prevent excess load on the wiring? Still seems like a bad idea to insulate something that you don't want to catch fire.

Anyway I'm an insulator and here in the US well at least in my state we do an airseal before putting fiberglass batts, bibs or cellulose at the exterior/interior walls. The airseal is to prevent the propagation of a fire. We basically use fire retardant foam and caulk to seal each cavity of the house as well as any penetration. So our homes are really safe its more certant that an American could die from a heart attack than a house fire. Let's fear the real killer.

Also you staple the wire every so many feet which is a fire stop point. It's in the International Building Code.
Nice video but being completely honest as a licensed and certified electrician myself some of these methods I really like and others I absolutely hate because when and if we need to get at the wiring some of the methods mentioned cause more problems then they are worth lol. Anyways great video I wish more contractors would put this much effort into the work they are doing even though as mentioned some of the methods I'm not a fan of lol but it's not because they are not good I just don't like the extra work some of them cause me lol. Thanks for the video and keep up the great work.🙂👍✌

I was wondering about that too, from an electrician standpoint. Placing the insulation over the wiring seems like it would cause headaches in the future if there were electrical work that needs to be done. Then, if the electrician needs to cut the insulation, we are back at square one with drafts.

How would you put in the insulation around the wires then? Honestly curious because I need to do this in my house soon and I want all the opinions and experienced points of view that I can get. Please and thank you! 😊
what kind of knife is that?
What about the vapour barrier?
Nail plates would be required if the wires were within 1.25" of the stud edge (per the NEC). As a typical wall stud is 3.5", and the hole is in the center of the stud, nail plates would not be required.
@Jonny0651

That has nothing to do with insulation installation. Stud guards are part of electrical inspections. Plumbers use them too and they are part of plumbing inspection. Insulation contractors aren't responsible for installing stud guards to protect electrical or plumbing...
Can you just spray foam around it?
I do what u did but I don't cut the outline of the box insulatiion I mark it and I cut only the top and bottom but not the middle so it tucks easily behind the box
Can you use any type of insulation or are there certain kinds that you have to use? I am getting ready to work on a tiny home.

i used rockwool and had a very hard time separating the insulation without it falling apart
Does it make sense to insulate interior walls when your exterior and rood is being spray foam?
@tmuxor
4 жыл бұрын
You'd just be insulating interior walls for acoustic reasons, I imagine, then.
This is not a fire hazzard having the wires directly on the insulation?
😎✌️
It's a tough job but I love it ..I make good money..
I have an outlet on my outside sunroom wall. The box was not put in all the way. One side sticks out from the wall. Yes a heck of a breeze. I used yellow electrical tape to try to seal it up. Yes, it doesn't stop the air, but slows it down. Can I stick pink insulation in the wall on the outside of the box? Please let me know what you think. Thanks! 😎
can I put some wall fiberglass insulation (pink cotton candy stuff) Into the electrical box? It is fire resistant and doesn't catch fire so...?
@MoneyManHolmes
6 ай бұрын
No. The wire connections inside the box need to be able to dissipate heat. They generate more heat than just the regular wire running through the walls.
Don't you staple the edges of the insulation to the studs? I also have a new addition to the garage and I'm installing a heater, part of the garage is 24 inches on center and the new part is 16 inches on center. I hope they make insulation for for both types of framing. I also have 2 x 6's for roof rafters where I can use a thicker insulation if they make it.
I insulate full houses and I cut out the fiberglass and take the paper off and fold the cut out behind the electrical box..
Do you use vapour barrier? I was hoping to see how you seal the electrical boxes.
@JoelTretheway

The insulation he is using is kraft-faced, which is the vapor barrier. Sheetrock goes right over it.
Breathing fiber glass couse lungs cancer in long term ?
Who is responsible for spray foaming the holes in framing the electrical wires go through? Is it the electrician? Or is it the insulation installer or general contractor?
@heresmytake2782

its the building contractor's duty and homeowner's responsibility to hire a good contractor
I just came to see how to insulate wires "putting on the rubber coating on the wires", I didn't think you would insulated it by putting on insulation...
I think you need nail plates on for you wiring. What no inspection or not in the USA?
Think you forgot to make a cut for that wire.
Not a chance in hell that any contractors are doing this.

Dude looks like Tommy Lee's brother...
You still doing handy man work? Or insulating? How about a new version of this ... with things you've learned ... I'm sure you could get Tim the Toolman to help ya out.
People, stop complaining about contractors not wearing a mask while handling the insulation. They do it just for these videos so you can hear them. Otherwise they are wearing the masks.
It'll be lovely and warm in there when the cables overheat and catch fire
You are putting in the insulation upside down... That's sure to affect the R value...

He'll skip the expensive stuff and make as much profit as he can while criticizing the other contractors for having done the same things that he's doing. If I were to give this guy a quote for electrical that included all of the value-added air and water sealant that he's suggesting, he'd balk and never accept my bid because it would be too high. I'd be more than happy to work for this guy if he'd pay me for the value-added extras he's suggesting for the electrical sealant, but... he's just like the rest of them in the end. He's in it to make as much money as he can. It's a sad state, but it's true. Your house is going to leak. We're all suckers.
This man is adorable. You got a girlfriend 😉
