How to Install Vapour Barrier / Retarder (Vapor for my Neighbours in the US of A)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

A Vapour or Vapor Retarder must be on the warm side of the home. I live in a cold climate and the heat is on inside of the house the majority of the time so we need a vapour retarder between the insulation and drywall. Some insulation comes with a paper vapour retarder attached to it, so you don't need the poly. Check your local building codes to to know where to install it in your home!

Thanks for the video. I'm adding vapour barrier to my shop, it's my first time doing this so I'm just watching a bunch of videos right now.

Thanks. Acoustic sealant is messy. Mineral spirits clean it up pretty well.

Thanks. Curious did you seal the holes you had to make for the wire entering your electrical boxes?

@@sushi13141 I find acoustiseal and spray foam messy. It's ok for new homes but I do renovations and don't want to track it through the rest of the house. But yes, both are good to seal

I can’t find the answer to this anywhere but why can’t we use the red tuck tape anymore??

It's sheathing tape for house wrap and never made for vapour barrier but people just used it anyway. Blue tape is made for vapour barrier. I'm sure it's the same but blue and a dollar more a roll.

Why can’t you use the red tuck tape anymore? And also, what size staples are you using?

From what I understand, the red stuff is for house wrap and people just started using it for vapour barrier instead of overlapping 2' or using acoustiseal. The blue stuff is made to stick to the poly better I guess and now inspectors are starting to enforce it.

My building centre said red for inside blue for outside. I am also in Ontario.
