I don't watch much URC as it's another subscription but I was dumbfounded by Rhys Henry and had to check his age 😂 glad you ended up commenting on it too

The guys Gats like's the most are the taller again athletic of options Brown, Griffin and Davies-King. Why, well if you are taller they can make you heavier without affecting your mobility and ability around the park. Assiratti is the exception to the rule pretty much due to one game which was Cardiff Vs Sale in Euros last year. A lot of players have always mentioned and think Gats has eluded himself that he takes stock of European games more than URC fixtures. Gats thinking with all this is pretty much he's a better coach and can get more out of an athlete with a higher ceiling than he can out of someone less athletic. This is why the likes of Morgan Morris and Keiran Williams don't get picked because he believes they've already reached their ceiling and there is nothing to gain. Another coach who has a similar philosophy is Eddie Jones and we all know how that went. 😅

Yeah you’re so right about Gats not eating the URC. He’s always been like that and I remember in fact like you said about him mentioning the Sale game when talking about both of the Cardiff props. In fairness though, during his previous tenure he did manage to improve the standards once he gets the guys into camp, irrespective of what was going on at the regions. The issue is now that the gulf is so big that I don’t think he can make up the difference anymore so it’s now starting to reflect on him?

Hi Christian, A lot for Warren to think about over the next month or two. Tom Botha I know he is in is early 30's and loves scrumming I say get him in it's a must. Also like Dylan Lewis I know at times hes not his best but i think there's more for him to give to the game. Leon Brown, I know he has had his injuries when he is fit we need to play him. Also Lloyd Fairbrother I do rate him as a good player, also Rhys Henry, Will Daves King, Archie Griffin, Alex Mann, Keiron Asaratti and Cameron Winnett. As always good to hear your thoughts catch you soon Take care

Yeah I like Tom Botha mate. I think he could tie us over for a year or 2 to let these young guys develop and help bring them through. Hope your keeping well my friend 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I still think francis got much more to offer,so for me francis ,botha and griffen for the summer tour our 2 best scrummagers and a development player,i also think leon brown may be better suited to loosehead

Yeah perhaps. Maybe best of a bad bunch that we have atm but I’d still pick Asseratti because he’s younger. Then have the older Botha and Griffin as the development guy like you said

Its a shame Leon Brown is injured so often as he is the most promising of the lot, Can scrummage and a powerful carrier but i think we just need to pick someone who is solid at scrum so either Henry Thomas back in or Cap Tom Botha, we need a solid scrum before we can even consider competing with the better sides Also Will Davies King is a really good prospect he just really needs a good run of starts to see if he can keep up the same intensity week in week out

Yeah agreed mate. I’d just go with Botha at this point probably. I don’t think Thomas is available anymore which is a weird one 😂 Yeah I’d like to see him given more game time. They never seam to pick him though so not sure if he’s performing in training or something 🤔

The Wales propping stocks make me so sad. I don't rate Dillon Lewis particularly and I think Tom Francis is done internationally. Leon Brown will always be a what if pipe dream with all those injuries. Griffin is the future clearly and Assirati is a good choice on his day. I'm fully with you. I want a TH to scrum first and foremost so Botha would be perfect if he wasn't 34 this year. You could probably milk a couple of years out of him, maybe even until the next world cup (BIG maybe he'd be 37ish). Is there not a monster prop with Welsh heritage in the Southern Hemisphere somewhere we can pinch who demolishes scrums for fun? 😂🤣

Will Andcombe be match ready for the summer tour? He surely will be #1 pick. I hate to say it but I think he will persist with Costelow aswell. I dunno why he was ever chosen to begin with but he’s shown that he ISN’T an international player. But Gatland seems to love him. Third choice is interesting. Lloyd didn’t do much when he had his chances this past 6 Nations. I loooooove Callum Sheedy but he’s the total opposite to a Gatland flyhalf so I can’t see him being picked. Patchell is in with a shout as he’s currently just across the water in NZ. I would love to see Dan Edwards given an opportunity but it’s probably a year too early for him. Who knows 🤷🏼‍♂️

That’s the issue though isn’t it. Do we pick an older player who’s always injured. One of the younger guys who seam like there not ready for that level or a real young guy who’s only just got out of the U20s? Who would be a head coach for a living! I bet they don’t sleep 😂

Assirati needs a bit more time to bulk up and gain experience, Dillon Lewis is not bad he can be pretty good and sturdy and get around a bit BUT he's not consistent enough for me , makes an ok bench option , Leon Brown got the potential to be a really good player but he keeps getting injured so I dong think he's tough enough for international rugby we need to look elsewhere, Sam wainwright seems to have gone off the radar a bit since the south African game when he held his ground against one of the best packs in the world, Archie Griffin didn't get hardly any gametime but I think he could be something decent just need to see more of him, I hope he gets more exposure in the summer, my 3 tight heads for summer and autumn would be Archie Griffin Assiratti Tom Botha

I’ve never been sold on Sam Wainwright tbh. I’ve always just thought he was there because nobody else was available. Agreed with you though on everything else and those would be my 3 for the summer too just maybe Asseratti starting because he has more experience because I think a win in the summer is vital to keep people interested in watching Wales 😬

We need to keep up with the Jones' and unfortunately in order to do that we need to pick bigger players. Don't get me wrong, I have seen shorter tightheads turn their opposition inside out countless times because they are technically brilliant, and sometimes the shorter player can gain an advantage over the taller...but I don't personally think that scrummaging prowess on its own can overcome the combined pack weight and force of these monster players driving forward. So with that in mind, it makes our search for the answer even harder because we want scrummaging skills and size. Based on what you have thrown up, it would look like maybe Archie Griffin will be the answer (in time maybe). It would appear that Harry O'Connor is too small. Costelow and Hardy look bigger than him in the picture! Will Davies-King seems to have the physical attributes, but I have no idea on his scrummaging.

Yeah my thoughts exactly Rob. I’ve heard a lot about Humphries scrummaging philosophy being about power, rather than dark arts and technical skills, which given our players makes no sense. (That is just hearsay though) 👀 it would be great if we could get Duncan Jones in who looks to have done a fantastic job with the props at the ospreys. As for Davis King , the few matches I’ve seen of him he’s held his own, but I’ve yet to see him dominate someone. Same as Archie Griffin. We just need them to get more game time so we can see what we have🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I’ve said for years that our front row are SOOOOO FAR behind the rest of the world. Our props are still the short(ish), stout, FAT guys can’t play anywhere else in the team. You look at other nations nations and their props are HUGE and JACKED. They don’t have beer belly’s like our guys and they’re strong af. Our front row look like chubby kids next to giant bodybuilders when we play the likes of Ireland,France and South Africa. Us welsh are generally a smaller people than most other rugby paying nations so I don’t know what we can do about our lack of size other than maybe to look further afield. Bring in some young Pacific Islander lads or South African boys that will qualify on residency. We have a great back row. A fairly solid second row but our front row (mainly props) are letting the entire team get bullied. We are the little bitches of scrummaging in international rugby. It wouldn’t be so bad if they were more mobile than the opposition but our boys do way less work than the guys they’re playing against. I dunno, man…. I’m EXTREMELY pessimistic with welsh rugby right now so I’m probably over dramatising things but I really do think our choice of props wouldn’t make an international ‘C’ side in any other nation.

I agree that the props coming through in Wales haven't been up to scratch with current international standards, but I dunno if it's because Welsh people are generally smaller. There are plenty of big lads. I think it would be worth seeing if for some reason big lads are put off rugby at a younger age in Wales or if they are put in positions they aren't suited for long term but works well when they are younger (we always had a massive bloke at inside center who would be better off at prop in the future). I'd be happy bringing in props from other places as long as there is a bit of a look at age-grade rugby development as well

In fairness mate, you have been saying this for ages. That’s why I feel that Griffin could be the man in a couple of years because he’s a big dude, and if he can scrimmage then that is exactly what we need. I don’t think you need to be pessimistic about rugby in Wales in general, but there are a couple of spots like 3 and 10, that are key positions and we’re not quite sure what to do at😬

Assirati scrummaged too high against his opposition he needs to take advantage of his height and bring opposition down just as the english th did against antonio. This depowers big guys like uni
