Fringemas Day 15. My Gym Partner's A Monkey is an odd show to say the least, but it found itself with an interesting take on the fish out of water concept. So today let's take a look at My Gym Partner's A Monkey, what it was and what happened to it.

The self-aware humor was great. My favorite was in one particular episode that went down this whole "humanity vw robots" rabbit hole and either Jake or Adam said, "gee, remember when this cartoon was just about a boy going to school with animals?" Or something like that.
The fact a show was able to end on its own terms peacefully blows my mind.

This is what happens when you allow Cartoon Network to literally let a show like this exist I blame the executives of the net work they clearly did not know what the fuck they were doing especially the guy who created the show all because the kids name was lying I mean come on that’s a lazy joke

Like it's never good to bully others, but the fact that they took such nerd stereotypes (braces, needing an inhaler/apparatus to breathe/wheezing from what I remember) and gave it to the bully in a visually appealing way (headphones) kind of turned the tables on expectations. I think your description is perfect. It came from the Cartoon Network silver era, i can honestly say that none of the shows were as memorable as the predators, but they were in no way bad, and in my old age nearly 20 years later its a fun nostalgia trip to see this show again. Kind of like camp lazlo, I remember its existence, but its not necessarily something I’d think to show my kids, unlike something such as KND or Samurai Jack.

A joke I always liked from this show is in the sleepover episode where Jake tries to get Adam to lighten up and have some fun with the boys. Jake prank calls someone pretending to be principal pixie frog and tells them school’s been canceled next week only to be revealed that Jake actually called principal pixie frog himself. Not only that but principal pixie frog was still groggy from being woken up in the middle of the night so he ends up buying Jake’s story. 😆

Unfortunately I can’t say I enjoyed this one too much. I think it may have come out right at that point where I was becoming more interested in story-driven plot lines and couldn’t quite be lured in by fart jokes anymore, but it definitely sticks out as a show I mostly only watched if there was nothing else to listen to while I worked on my homework. I’m glad to get a better look into the series for what it was though! I hope those who enjoyed the show appreciated the blast from the past :)
Every time Jordan drops a new video reminding me of a show that I used to love as a kid, I feel like Light picking up the Death Note and spontaneously regaining all of his memories.
I won't lie the main thing I remember from this show is the character designs. It's always fun to see how or even if animated shows choose to anthropomorphize talking animals.

My math's teacher in year 10 was a fan of this show, and particularly liked quoting the Superintendent Wolverine line "Do I have to bite you on the buttocks?" Most people in the class weren't familiar with the show, which made the line come across a little unusual out of context.

Lately, I been reminiscing on old cartoons I watched in my childhood and My Gym Partner’s a Monkey was one of those cartoons that popped up in my head. I definitely remember watching this show when it aired and thinking it was alright. But it’s not the reason for my great fondness of it. No, that would be the game that was on the CN website. It was probably my favourite game on the site, when I think about it. You have no idea how much I loved this show when I was a kid! Thank you for bringing this up, back then in my neighborhood it was a huge hit really. I fondly remember the times when we discussed new episodes with my buddies at school, good old times man.
I remember that one short from _My Gym Partner's A Monkey_ where Adam and Jake were taking a hibernation test by staying up all night and succeed only to fall asleep on the streets and got late for class.
My mom remembers this show. One time, out of nowhere, she asked me if the show was still on and I said "No." -- she only remembers it because of the theme song xD
Remembering this show makes me realize how close the setting for the anime/manga "Murenase! Seton Gakuen". Two humans in a school filled with other animal species and trying to get along even tho (apart from being there 2 humans) the females of most species are normal human looking ones (even in size) while the males were kept animal looking.
the episode i remember most fondly is where he goes back to regular school and its even worse than the animal school lol

I know this video isn't about Krypto the Super Dog but you mentioned it and I feel compulsion to talk about my strange relationship with that show. I watched one episode of it (it was one where Krypto takes the place of an old Firehouse dog, titled something making a jab at the "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" saying) but I loved it. In 1st grade we had a project to draw the different stages of a hurricane and for mine, in the stage 5 section, I drew Krypto saving a kid who got carried away by the hurricane. Well apparently the project was also a competition and I won said competition and got some neat books about different natural disasters.
