Que honor y cuánto orgullo por haber participado en ese acontecimiento. Gracias Garci
4:43 To those wondering what he said in Spanish, here it is: ''We're all who made this movie very happy and grateful to You and also the people who make movies in my country, in Spain.'' :D
Luise Rainer is such a happy and joyous lady! :D She's 104, what makes her the oldest living Academy Award winner. Great actress!

Where's the microphone?
Why do they call Spanish "foreign language" if it was a common language in the US before English? And more, why don't they call English a "foreign language" if it is not the official language of the US and is not a native language?

Pronta más películas de España ganaran
It has to be one of the weakest and most forgettable lineup of the 5 foreign films ever. With the exception of Coup de Torchon (France), the other four are very hard to find, hardly discussed, very underseen yet they're the ones here. In a year where potential nominees could have been: Fitzcarraldo, The Night of the Shooting Stars, Yol and Das Boot (which got several nominations but failed on this one).
Amazing Luise Rainer!!! But "Volver a Empezar" was one of the sorriest films ever to win that award!!! I saw it an usually crowded arthouse theater, but there were only 10 or 11 "victims" sitting through that utterly forgettable, sentimental claptrap!!! France's "Coup de Torchon" should have won hands down!!!

You are right but Spain had already deserved it several times with films by Berlanga, Carlos Saura, Bardem or Buñuel and they never received it because of Franco's dictatorship, a dictator helped by the US money but ignored by the Academy in a hypocritical American move as usual. This is the first Spanish-language film ever to win the award and that is not right at all!

And it is funny because Buñuel received it representing France but not representing Spain or Mexico with films such as Viridiana or Los olvidados. France and Italy can't complain at all about this award, the Academy has always been generous to them.

Spain should be won in 1953 with "Welcome Mister Marshall" ( although it is quite anti-American movie) and in 1970 with "Tristana"
