"He can't be with us tonight he's preparing his new film" Called 'The Working Class Goes To Heaven', yes a movie deeply concerned about the working class, filled with Marxist themes and an acute analysis of all philosophies of socialism, emphasizing the struggle of the worker and how theory and politics are inefficient at alleviating his burden and the need for radical change. That same director won an Oscar in the anti-communist, red-scared, coldwar USA. I'm happy for Petri, he's one of yhe best directors in the world but it was a weird award. The winning movie ( Investigation of a Citizen ) in itself was anti-police, denouncing the ludicrous corruption that can make its way into every part of the body of justice. And it features Gian Maria Volonté, one of the best actors who ever lived, who also portrayed Bartolomeo Vanzetti in "Sacco e Vanzetti" a movie denouncing the USA's trial of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, trialed and executed for a murder they didn't commit because they were anarchists.

Jean Moreau couldn't be disappointed about the winning of Italy comparing to the other "pathetic"(no offence) movies nominated, except Tristana that was effettively a good movie, but not at the level of this masterpiece. I'm sad about her reaction because the past year a masterpiece of the french production won the same Oscar for a similar movie(Always on investigation).

Don Luis Buñuel is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, but If Tristana is a great movie, Indagine su un cittadino al di sopra di ogni sospetto is a masterpiece. I believe Jeanne Moreau cheered on Tristana because, directed by Buñuel, she starred in Le journal d'une femme de chambre. Moreover Tristana was played by a french actress, Catherine Deneuve. In my opinion that is why Moreau was disappointed with the academy's decision

What an extraordinary movie ! Cinecittà was at the top of its game back then. I understand director Elio Petri and star Gian Maria Volontè couldn't come to the USA to pick up their so well-deserved Oscar since they were both members of the Italian Communist Party, but why not screenwriter Ugo Pirro, since he left the party in 1956 (after the events in Hungary) ? Ah, anyway.

Let's not be hateful towards our french brothers, the reason why this movie was snobbed by the academy is because Elio Petri and Gian Maria Volontè were communists and proud of it
