J None (the rapper) used to be a member of VoicePlay before he joined the US Navy (wanted for his vocal talents) for a 5 yr stint (2 down - 3 to go). He said at his goodbye party that he would be back and he has been back when he had leave and has taken the lead on Friends on the Other Side, been in Nothing Else Matters, and Valhalla Calling as well as some VoicePlay shorts and minis. After this one we just watched with you, he had to leave for his wedding in 3 days. In case you want to try some more of VoicePlay, check out Tennessee Whiskey, Little Mermaid, Hoist the Colours, Queen in 5 Minutes, Oogie Boogie's Song. These will give you a variety of what they can do and they have hundreds more!

Not only does he do the bass here in VoicePlay, but he also does solo work. Personally recommend A'int No Sunshine as well as Sixteen Tons from Geoff's solo work. Excellent to listen to :)

Welcome to the rabbit hole that is VoicePlay!! They out do themselves every time! I cannot stop watching this, it is amazing!! Geoff hits 3 B0's! Eli has become the Asgardian god of rock, Layne is a beatboxing god, Cesar has become a Berserker, and J None has shown us that rap indeed belongs in acapella! And Miracle of Sound gave this 10 out of 10 raised ale horns!! Great reaction! This from the Assasins Creed Valhalla video game, but that rap is all J None!! Geoff (low bass) also his own channel.

@@millennialmeetsmusic Also of note, Eli is pronounced EL-E not E-LI, and when you have all five in the mead hall, they are, from left to right, Layne, Cesar, J None, Eli, and Geoff. All the sound were either voices (Layne even made the door sounds) or stomping, no instruments whatso ever. They are wonderful. Geoff, by the way, has a five and a bit octave range. He briefly hits an A0 in another song (can't remember which one off the top of my head) on up to A5 I think.

All the sounds are either voices or claps/stomps. For videos like this one they may do more layers to make the sound richer, but those are still acapella. They perform these songs live, so you know it's real. Voiceplay are the theater kids of acapella. They do covers of many cartoon and movie soundtracks, with great costumes. If you want to see more Geoff's range - check The Oogie Boogie song, or any video on his official channel. He also has some guides where he explains the techniques he uses to sing low. But all the other members are also great! P.S.: J.None is the other guy, who's voice you liked. He is a former member of Voiceplay, but left for the army, and now occasionally joins the group

    J. None was recruited out of VoicePlay by the US Navy, for one of their singing groups. He has made several appearances with VoicePlay since enlisting when he is on leave from the Navy. Many fans are hoping he rejoins VoicePlay when his enlistment is up - 2 or 3 more years?

Yes, ALL sounds are made by their voices. Literally - even the creaky wooden door when J.None enters was Layne, the beatboxer, making the sound with his voice. J. None was the rapping guy - he was a longtime member of Voiceplay until he left last year to serve with the Navy, but he comes back every now and then to do a song with his old mates - and we believe they're using their fifth spot for 'guest members' so they can keep it open for him when he finishes his navy service.

First of all: yes, they make all of the sound by their voices. Even the creaking of the big wooden door was made by Layne Stein, the beatboxer. Of course there are moments in which some effects (like reverb, or other modulation effects) are applied, but all and every sound comes from their bodies, mainly their mouths (there are some stepping and other percussive effects made by hands over bodies). 🙂 Others have already introduced you to the various members. 🙂 J None is the one who did the rap, he was a permanent member of Voiceplay 'til a couple years ago, now he's serving a 5 years time in the Navy but he still joins the group for recordings when he's on leave. Another recent one featuring him is their Metallica's "Nothing else matter" cover... Another mind-blowing performance, for totally different reasons. 😁 See you next time, and welcome to this beautiful rabbit hole. PS: Geoff (pron. Jeff) Castellucci, "the man with the deep voice", has his own solo channel. Very worth to explore. He does "low bass singer covers" in which he visually "clones" himself in 4 or 5 "Geoffs" (they even have names... 😁), and sings all the parts, showing his 5 octaves range. 🙂

It's always fun to see someone react to Voiceplay for the first time! I had never heard this song, never heard of it, didn't know there was a game called Assassin's Creed because I'm old. Didn't matter, Voiceplay is wonderful, my absolute favorite acapella group. I am convinced they can do anything. If you'd like some comedy, check their covers of We Don't Talk About Bruno or the Little Mermaid Medley. If you want your heart broken, figuratively and temporarily, react to their cover of I Can't Make You Love Me. They are an all male group, currently short one permanent member, featured artists filling the gap. Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci!

Peter Barber (another bass singer with his own YT channel) does a wonderful breakdown on VoicePlay's version of this song. He explains (in ways a non-music person can understand) how the guys did the tracks. They DO lay down the various tracks individually in the studio before doing the video. I believe this is the one Geoff said took him 5 studio-hours of "murdering my voice" to get done. Three B0s doesn't happen without sacrifice!

Left to right... Layne Stein- beatboxer, Baritone, Arrangements. Cesar De La Rosa- baritone, Tenor. J None- baritone, former member. Eli (elly) Jacobson - tenor, rock tenor. Geoff Castelucci- bass, Arrangements. Voiceplay has a ton of videos to choose from going back 8 years. All are awesome. Geoff has his own channel were he sings solo non acapella. He clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. He also a ton of awesome videos to choose from. Voiceplay Released their new video on patreon sunday night. It is awesome. Apocalyptic time. They have 2 other apocalyptic videos... Dream On and Warriors. These guys are known as both The Theater Kids of Acapella and The Kings of Halloween because of their love of dressing up and performing. They are very versatile in what they sing. Jay None did the rap break. If you'd like to see them doing something a bit lighter they recently covered We Don't Talk About Bruno from Encanto. Sadly Jay was off working for the US Navy during that session, so to fill the gap in the line up and add a bit more in the upper octaves they featured Ashley Dianne and let her take the lead, well most of it. It's just really good singing with their comedic side thrown in for fun. I'm really sure you'll like it.

Welcome to the VP Rabbit hole. They have a song for almost any genre you like.everything from Rock (Nothing Else Matters by Metallica) to an assortment of Disney songs/mashups (We Don't Talk About Bruno, Moana Medley) and everything in between. J None is the guy that was rapping (the rap was written for this arrangement) he's a former member who is currently serving in the Navy, but when he's on leave joins in whatever song they're doing. 🥰 The others are Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci, the bass singer, he also has his own channel where he clones himself to sing with 😍 😄 so I recommend that Rabbit hole too. Then Eli (rhymes with jelly) the bald tenor aka Rock God 😎. Then Cesar Baritone with the afro-ish hair, he's the newest member and has the voice of an angel 😇. And Layne with his vocal percussionist thats just insane you forget that he's doing it and has accumulated a variety of nicknames. 🤩🥕🎻🥁🥰 The fun fact about this group (aka as the theater kids of a capella) is they do almost everything themselves Layne actually arranged this one but he and Geoff split the arrangements about 50/50 Eli got to have fun with the visual effects and lighting Don't worry about the shock factor. They have broken other long time reactors who are used to them. I just recommend no drinking, except during pauses, try not to fall out of your chair and make sure you're wearing pants (yes one reactors did jump out of his seat not realizing he didn't have pants on, but he had cute boxers) 🤯 Again welcome to the rabbit hole, may you enjoy every second

For one of their songs that’s very different (and really fun) you should check out their cover of Oogie Boogie from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. Geoff, the base, sings lead!

Geoff (Jeff, the bass) is the gateway drug to Voiceplay. Then as you listen you realize just how freakishly good every other member is as well. Eli (Ellee) is the rock tenor, but can drop down and cover the low notes when needed. Cesar is a baritone, but took the high note in their cover of Aerosmith's "Dream On". None of these guys stay in their lane. The other commenters here have given great suggestions!

5:22 Good call, it is Viking vibes (not surprising considering the title ;-) ). This is in fact a cover of a song made by Miracle of Sound who makes a lot of really cool video game related music. This is a song he made for Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. I definetly recommend checking out more Voiceplay stuff, as well as Geoff Castelluci's solo stuff (that's the bass singer) - and while we're at it i'd also throw in a recommendation for Miracle of Sound's stuff because it's awesome and why the heck not ;-)

This particular song is one of their few non-A Capella covers, with a bit of digital instrumentaion in the background. I'd recommend one of their A Capella covers, particularly the lyric-free In The Hall Of The Mountain King or Halo theme to get a good feel of their vocal talent. You should also hear Miracle Of Sound's original Valhalla Calling ft Payton Parrish, as well as several other of his songs. Gavin Dunne (Miracle Of Sound) is a really cool guy that does a lot of videogame-inspired music, and has even been hired by game developers to write promotional tie-in music.
