Beautiful song.Great reaction 👍 BTW...Most Germans don't usually roll the Rs...but what Till often does is something called "Bühnensprache" oder "Bühnendeutsch" (stage language/stage German). Bühnendeutsch started in the 19th century and established a standardized set of pronunciation rules for the German language used in theatres across all German speaking countries....so that German speakers from e.g. Switzerland would be able to understand theatre plays from the Rhineland area a lot easier...and vice versa of course. It's pronunciation is overly precise and exaggerated....and it sounds very theatrical to German ears.

The exaggerated rolling of the R’s is common in the Neue Deutsches Härte sub-genre of industrial metal though.

The /r/ is trilled in the Bavarian and Austrian dialect (and accents). It is also trilled in some varieties of Plattdeutsch.

[Intro] Now, dear children, pay attention I am the voice from the pillow I brought you something Have ripped it out of my chest With this heart, I have the power Blackmail the eyelids I sing until the new day comes A bright light in the heaven's sky [Chorus] My heart burns [Verse 1] They come to you at night Demons, ghosts and black elves They crawl up from the cellar rows And will take a look under your blanket [Pre-Chorus] Little children listen now I am the voice from the pillow I brought something to you A bright light in the heaven's sky [Chorus] My heart burns My heart burns You might also like Mein Herz brennt Rammstein [Verse 2] They come to you at night And steal your small hot tears They wait till the moon awakes And push them in my cold veins [Pre-Chorus] Little children listen now I am the voice from the pillow I sing 'til the day awakes A bright light in the heaven's sky [Chorus] My heart burns My heart burns My heart burns My heart burns [Verse 3] With this heart I have the power To blackmail the eyelids I sing 'til the day wakes up A bright light in the heaven's sky [Instrumental Bridge] [Chorus] My heart burns My heart burns My heart burns (My heart) My heart burns (My heart burns) (My heart burns)

One of the things about Rammstein when it comes to searching for Lyrics is that you more often than not want to search multiple lyric sites to see if there are any small differences between sites. As you know, Rammstein likes to have double meanings in their songs, as well as some words that get lost in translation and end up approximated into English.

In Hochdeutsch (High German) you don't roll your R, some other German dialects do. If you listen to their interviews (which are rare), you can clearly hear that the rolled R isn't present. In Hochdeutsch you pronounce R at the back of your throat. Till uses technique, which is called "Bühnendeutsch"/ "Bühnenaussprache" (Stage german), which is used to draw the attention and make it more poweful (I can't really explain it in English, sorry). I hope I answered your question and sorry for my bad English lol

The smile is like of an 8 year old child that have the power over your life. As long as that child is happy you can live, but one random wrong act and you're dead. But you are terrified the whole time, because you never know if that mood of the child is gonna change.

@@millennialmeetsmusic As for pronunciation, you're close, but Rammstein pronounces it more like rammSCHTEIN. You can hear how they pronounce it in the song Rammstein linked here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aH2pqdeYXa6dl7Q.html It's (i'm pretty sure) literally the first lyric so if you pop it out and wait like ten seconds or so you'll hear Til pronounce it as they mean to. It's not the easiest pronunciation in German... like the Ich kind of sound that a lot of people will make sound as Ish or Ick, when it's more like a throat noise at the end. It doesn't matter overall as long as people know what you mean, though so no biggie, but if you're going to do more of their videos (and you should if you like this, especially live performances; their tour before this last album release required something like 14 semi-tractor trailer trucks, a 10-story center stage structure, a full week to assemble and so much creative lighting and pyrotechnics to accompany that there were temporary flight restrictions to avoid harming the vision of pilots).

Till portrays the 'Sandman', who comes to children in the night to (a) save them from the monsters in their nightmares or (b) allow the torment to continue until the light of morning from heaven arrives ( ein heller schein am firmament )....... "Pay attention, dear children" ( nun liebe kinder gebt fein Acht ) "I am the voice from the pillow" ( ich bin die stimmer aus dem kissen )......while the Sandman is terrifying, he cares for the children, which is why his heart 'burns' ( mein herz brennt ) .....

The location for this video was the Belitz sanatorium near Berlin (built 1905-1907). This was a neurological clinic for tuberculosis patients in Eastern Germany, which was later used by the Russians as a military base. Today the large site and its buildings are empty and are often used as a filming location for TV and music productions! There were many sanitary facilities in the buildings, including clinical bathrooms that were used by patients. This explains the depression in the ground that can be seen in the video. Greetings from Hamburg!

To understand the lyrics and their meaning, pay attention to the lyrics, pay attention to the location, both in the piano as well the official "normal" version. Furthermore, consider the history of the place, and then put it all into context and it becomes immediately clear how profound this song really is. The text is easy to find out and translate. But the pivotal point is the filming location. The "Beelitzer Heilstätten - Sanatorium", close to Berlin, was once a medical institute for people with lung diseases, but later became a mental institution where people were brutally mistreated for research purposes and used as guinea pigs. These patients were treated with the most questionable methods, including experiments involving the use of electronic pulses. Especially in children and young people. Many innocent people died in this ominous place. The place was abandoned after a major fire and has been abandoned ever since.

I believe that Till is actually good and he used to live there and was also tortured.. I believe he is trying to save the children that are in the orphanage from abuse at the hands of the nurses.. I remember reading somewhere about it being an orphanage and about the abuse that has happened at these places where kids are unwanted and unloved and unfortunately tend to get abused. I think the boy in the beginning who makes that cutting motion was Till. I think he wanted revenge and to save the children. Also I've heard other reactors say how creepy it is to hear a voice coming from the pillow but I see it differently because a pillow is known as a comfort object its soft and you just feel more comfortable with a pillow, so when Till sings "I sing until the new day comes, a bright glow in the heavens, my heart burns" he is helping them through another night and showing them that there's still hope because a new day will soon be here.. That's my interpretation 🙂

Till Lindemann is not a rock star. He is a poet, like his father Werner, who wrote children's books. His parents divorced and he went to live with his father who, however, had problems with alcohol. His life has been a disaster, and he sings about disasters. Violence, abuse, perversions, taboos of our modern society. He sings in the first-person because in this way the lyrics are more immediate for the public, while in the third-person it would be like distancing himself from what he says, talking about deviant people and attributing all the blame to them. For Lindemann this would be a kind of "cowardice". His baritone voice is made deliberately hoarse, he adopts the "Sprechstimme" technique which dates back to the works of Richard Wagner. In this way the words take on a deeper dramatic effect. Often the texts (of which he is the sole author) are deliberately ambiguous, to stimulate reasoning, research and considerations on the part of the listeners. In my opinion, Till Lindemann is a modern post-industrial poet, in search of his own musical language capable of conveying the drama of the topics he talks about. Rammstein (by Lindemann) is not simply a group like many others.

if it helps, rammstein - rahm schtein. rolling the r is an add on, dramatic/theatre effect :) the sch part is pronounced like "shh" // i love your reactions on this band oml also yeah usually till rolls his r - really enunciates it - it's kinda like a theatre thing but normally he doesn't speak like that.
