Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer, has his own solo channel where he has done several songs with his "clones". His range is not human! 😉 As I mentioned in your previous Home Free reaction, you should check out Voiceplay's cover of "Hoist the Colors". They also have a few medleys. I would also highly recommend their cover of "Just Sing". It's a HUGE collaboration with MANY other a capella artists. If/when you do that one, be sure to turn on the captions. They included information about who everyone is, as well as a few snarky remarks.

Voiceplay is active for many years. And when you have seen a few of their songs you'll see that they have a lot of fun. They are brothers in singing, range and have their own style. In the past they bonded when one of the group suddenly and to early passed away. Listen to their song Halo, which they sung i honor of him. Of course they have bloopers and shorts.

Normal process for reactors on this song: 01:15 Geoff Castellucci hits the first of 3 (count 'em, 3!) B0s in the song; this one he sustains for 15 seconds (with a couple of minor modulations). 01:40 Geoff finishes off his verse, "Shields and Spears", with an F#1 - and everybody reacts like it's the lowest thing they've ever heard! But that B0 is more than 1/2 octave LOWER than that F#1. For anyone who doesn't know, a B0 is the 2nd white key on a piano keyboard - so Geoff's almost off of it there! Geoff and Tim Foust from Home Free are about the same age (Geoff is not quite a year older), and are good friends. They've traded techniques for hitting super-low notes. Tim tends to use more of a growl technique, and Geoff has become a master of sub-harmonics. Geoff has a couple of videos on his solo channel where he explains how he does it, so that would also give you a good feel for his normal speaking voice - which, for me, is a very rich, rather deep baritone/bass. If you like Vikings, and VoicePlay, you have to watch their "prequel" to this song, My Mother Told Me. Mostly the same makeup and costumes, 1 personnel change, and Geoff sounds like a Viking war horn!

@@juergenblaas6573 Geoff does modulate the tone a couple of times during that 15 seconds, so it's not 15 seconds straight of a single tone. Not exactly sure how you would loop that, although I suppose it could be done. But holding a note for 15 seconds isn't anything new for Geoff (or any professional singer, for that matter).

It is always fun to watch someone experience Voiceplay for the first time, your faces told it all. We are Voiceplayers. Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatbox) have been singing together since middle school and professionally since 1997. They take turns doing the arrangements, whoever arranges also does the video planning, production, editing, plans the set, costume and makeup. They have no label, no manager, thus have complete creative control. They are outstanding. Geoff has a solo channel, in the last four he thanks his followers, patrons, and top tier patrons by name. He just did I See Fire from the Hobbit. Voiceplay just dropped In the Air Tonight. Subsribed in anticipation of more Geoff and Voiceplay!

Welcome to the VoicePlay rabbit hole! They all have amazing voices, and their creativity, the spin they give to their songs (I call it the VP trademark), is off the charts. The one video that got many people hooked is "The Oogie Boogie Song", you really have to check that one out! Tim will be 42 this July, and Geoff turns 43 in August, so they're almost a year apart. Since you wondered 😊 Both VoicePlay and Home Free are awesome! Personally, I prefer VoicePlay for their theatrical side, and of course I melt with Geoff's velvety smooth, subterranean lows 🤯. But he can also go very, very high, I believe he has a 5 octave range! Everything from VP is worth checking out, you can't go wrong! Also, Geoff has his own YT channel, with some amazing stuff there! I love your surprise faces, and all I can say is : get used to it, VP is full of surprises! 🥰

These guys don't know how to sing badly and they cover virtually any genre you can think of, so pick anything from their catalog that catches your eye and you won't go wrong. But some other favorites of mine are Hoist the Colours, Nothing Else Matters, We Don't Talk About Bruno and Queen in Five Minutes. Their latest, In The Air Tonight, just premiered today. Their bass singer, Geoff Castellucci, also has a solo channel where he layers his vocals and costumed personas; Ghost Riders In the Sky, Misty Mountains Cold, The Sound of Silence and his latest I See Fire are all superb (but again, there's lots to choose from and they are all excellent.) Liked, subscribed and looking forward to seeing more!

We're VoicePlayas! Your reactions to Geoff were totally priceless and spot-on! I had to laugh at you wondering when his balls dropped, because another reactor exclaimed that Geoff must have hit puberty at age 3 to sing so low, haha! A side note, age actually does affect the depth of the voice, at least a little bit. It won't turn a tenor into a bass, but a bass voice is like a fine wine that grows richer as it ages. Tim and Geoff are both in their early 40s, just a year apart. Tim has said that Geoff has the lower chest voice, but Tim can hit lower notes using his growl technique. He only does that in concerts as a stunt, though. Geoff has recorded lower notes, like the B0 at the beginning of this song while J.None is singing "Me..." That's an insanely LOW note! What makes Geoff's super-low notes stand out is his use of subharmonics: in a nutshell, you're singing an octave above, but the vibration of the vocal chords plus a big dose of Physics creates a pitch that is an octave lower (Geoff explains it better). So it's actually a sung word, and it sounds THICC due to the higher harmonics creeping in. Both Tim and Geoff's vocal techniques are rare and wildly effective at making their voices hit the bottom of the piano! What is truly beautiful is that Geoff of VoicePlay, Tim of Home Free, and Avi formerly of Pentatonix are all friends, and fans of one group tend to be fans of all three... although there's preference based on if you like theatrics, country, or pop... and debates on which bass singer is hotter, hahaha! (Why is it always the bass? Cesar is adorable and sassy.) "Hoist the Colors" is probably my favorite from VoicePlay, with costumes and sets that are spot-on. "Nothing Else Matters" is less theatrical but showcases their vocal talents (with a surprise twist). For laughs and nostalgia, "Boy Bands in 5 Minutes" will take you on a playful ride through the decades. They just dropped "In The Air Tonight" with a strong 80s vibe, that would be a good one to pull in more subscribers. You mentioned Game of Thrones, and Geoff Castellucci sings "Rains of Castamere" on his solo channel, with him dressed in GOT costume sitting on the Iron Throne. He's also got two videos cosplaying as the dwarves from The Hobbit movies. "Over Misty Mountains Cold" is super epic and was basically my introduction into Geoff and my return into VoicePlay. He just dropped the sequel, "I See Fire." It's still HOT... so that would be a great one to do soon. For a heartwarming reaction and a chance to hear Geoff's natural voice, listen to his video discussing his wife's deafness. His adoration for her and his joy in their son is simply BEAUTIFUL. It would be a good Father's Day video. His very first video was about their struggle to conceive, and his gentle care for her through all of the IVF pain is so touching. He also does audiobooks. His reading of "The Raven" makes my spine shiver. There's just something about the low voice, some primal "he will either protect me or hurt me" reaction that makes you both warm and comforted, but also chills your nerves. (Oh gosh, sorry for the long post!)

Geoff and Tim have similar ranges and ages and are good friends. Tim's lowest range is usually vocal fry and/or growl, while Geoff's full chest voice goes down to F#1 while his subharmonics go down to B0 with his lowest growl of A0. For Valhalla Calling, Geoff hit 3 sustained B0's. Layne is the beatboxer and has a lovely baritone voice. The rapper is J None who used to be a member but the US Navy wanted him for his vocal talents and he's in the Navy chorus for another 3 years. He's been coming back on leave and took the lead in Friends on the Other Side, was back for Nothing Else Matters (Metallica cover), Valhalla Calling (Miracle of Sound cover - they raised 10 out of 10 ale horns for this rendition), today they dropped a new video In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins cover). Geoff and Layne have been together since middle and high school - first group was 4:two:5 and once out of high school they renamed it VoicePlay (fans are known as VoicePlayas). They have well over 800 videos, they are in the Orlando area and all members have worked at various theme parks learning their craft. In high school, Eli (rhymes with jelly, bald high tenor) went to a school closer to Leesburg but competed in the same competitions. He joined a rock band and about 13 years ago landed in VoicePlay. Cesar is the newest member about 2 yrs now has a beautiful voice and a lot of sass. Check VoicePlay's I Can't Make You Love Me and/or We're Good which was the audition that made him a member. Because you said you would be doing more of VoicePlay, I am subscribed. You will find the VoicePlayas are a very loyal and very happy with reactors. VoicePlay has no label, no contracts. Geoff and Layne are the primary producers, taking turns at each new video doing arranging, premix audio, camera work, staging, costuming, makeup although they occasionally hirer in some of the best makeup artists for the trickier videos. Eli is in charge of the computer backgrounds, lighting, etc. If you ever wonder who's doing what take a good look at their video and credit is there for beard wranglers, some costumes are done by Pattycake Studios, owned by a previous baritone who wanted to go into production and Layne who also wanted to keep that studio in the family.

How deep a singer can go is based on the thickness of their vocal chords and the length of their larynx. Voices do tend to get deeper as they get older as your vocal chords with age get less elasticity. However, to answer your question, Geoff is 3 years younger than Tim

  • @johndeeregreen4592

With regards to voice depth, sort of. Thickness of vocal folds and larynx shape do determine a lot of voice depth. But with a lot of extended techniques, this gets blurred a lot. Geoff, for example, can reach depths in chest voice that other men can with a clean vocal fry; I am sure Geoff can vocal fry a lot lower than we've ever heard, though. As we get older, a lot of that increase in depth is actually vocal fry from your aforementioned slackness in the vocal folds; the "gravel" we hear a lot of older men get.

Voiceplay has been around a long time! Of the big three Acapella groups Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay, Voiceplay are the 'theatre kids' of the acapella world. They love making a production, with costumes, lighting and excellent production values to accompany their respectful brand new arrangements of the songs they cover. For sheer acapella beauty, I recommend 'Can't Help Falling In Love' Voiceplay or 'I Can't Make You Love Me'. From Geoff's solo channel where he usually has four or five Geoffs singing, you MUST hear 'Sixteen Tons', and for sheer bass-y goodness 'Shenandoah'. My personal favorite is 'Blackbird' by Geoff. Voiceplay has been getting better and better with every song that they have come out with, so you can't go wrong reacting to any of their recent stuff. For sheer bouncy fun I love 'If I Were a Rich Man/Girl', and even some of their shorts are great, like 'Peaches'. I'm excited to meet you, and I'm looking forward to your next reaction! Subscribed!

Voiceplay nothing else matters, seven nation army, oogie boogie song...etc. The bass singer has his solo channel that is equally impressive and his range is absolutely astounding. I reccomend his sound of silence cover, black bird cover, man of constant sorrow cover, and especially his hobbit covers, far over the misty mountains cold and i see fire. I also absolutely love his covers of aint no sunshine, and since you mentioned game of thrones, he has his own cover of the song rains of castsmere, which is one of my favorites as well. Basically anything from him or Voiceplay is a win.

Welcome to the Voiceplay rabbit hole! They are part of the holy Trinity of Acapella; Pentatonix (fans are pentaholics), Home Free (fans are called Home Fries), and Voiceplay (fans are called Voiceplayers). Voiceplay is known as the theater kids of Acapella. You mentioned Game of Thrones. Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci has a solo channel where he actually did a cover of The Rains of Castemere from GOT. Looking forward to more Voiceplay reactions.

Welcome to the VP party, its a deep and enjoyable Rabbit Hole. To give you a current list of members we will start with Layne - beatboxer who swallowed a drumset, alien space ship, and a wearhouse of sound effects. He also arranged this song and likes to push Geoff to see what he can do. Layne also co-owns Patty Cake Productions with Tony (a former member of Voiceplay who left to work primarily behind the cameras, you will run across him in the older videos) Next you have Cesar (the guy with the fro) - he's the newest member of the group. He's a Sassy Angle that has shown he has grit. If you look at his face in this video the ruins spell out Voiceplay (they like throwing in Easter Eggs whenever/wherever) Eli ( rhymes with jelly, bald) - is a Rock God that has taken us to the heavens and beyond. Eli does the lighting and special effects. Next would be Geoff (Jeff) - yes he and Tim are about the same age and are friend, they both have helped each other out with some of their low notes. Geoff also does about half their arrangements, the half Layne doesn't do. Geoff also has his own channel that is an adventure unto itself (totally recommend you checking it out), you'll find videos about how to sing low and how he arranges his music, (You may laso want to check out The Charismatic Voice, she has interviewed a couple of members of Voiceplay, or Huldra Draco) Finally but not last is J None (the guy who rapped) - a former member of Voiceplay. He left to join the Navy, but promised to come back (he has kept his promise). Hopefully after his tour with the Navy is done he'll return 😊 as a full member) There is one member that left who was a high tenor his name is Earl, as you explore older videos you will run across him. He wss a founding member of Voiceplay with Geoff and Layne.

Geoff actually holds 2 World Records for the lowest note ever sang and the lowest note held while singing. They are AMAZING singers. They were on the same season as Home Free on The Sing Off, which Penatonix had won a year or two before. They've had some changes as to who was in the group, as they all have. JNone, the one that is in the middle and raps in the song actually left the group after enlisting in the Navy. He still meets up when he's stateside and not out on a ship. I LOVE ALL THEIR STUFF! You can't go wrong with them. Definitely listen to We Don't Talk About Bruno ft Ashley Diane.

Voiceplay and Home Free both competed on the acapella TV show "The Sing Off" the season after Pentatonix won. Home Free won that season, but Voiceplay has really matured and they're about the same level now. Where Home Free has only had one lineup change since, Voiceplay has had several members come and go and has had a lot of guest singers. The groups are all friendly and sometimes you see some crossover behind the scenes if not in front of the camera - too many to list here. Tim Foust (Home Free's bass) and Geoff Castellucci (Voiceplay's bass) have taught each other all their tricks to hit subterranean notes. I wouldn't call it a competition but, if it is, it's a friendly one where they root for each other. Where Pentatonix is more pop, Home Free is more country and Voiceplay does a lot of Disney, they all cross genres from time to time. During the TV competition, groups didn't know who would be in the elimination round, so they had to work up songs where they could go head-to-head. Voiceplay and Home Free worked up "Hillbillies vs. Zombies", but never ended up having to perform it during the show. They had so much fun with it together, they ended up recording it after the show just because they wanted to. It's a lot of fun to see them goofing off with it.

You guys have got to do more voiceplay reactions. And the bass singer does His own Solo Work as well. Geoff castellucci just dropped I see fire which is so gorgeous and the sequel to over the misty mountains cold which he also did. Voiceplay as far as amazing arrangement and vocal gymnastics, nothing else matters and seven nation army is sitting somewhere near the top and that is saying something because they have a huge assortment of songs. They just dropped a phill Collins cover (in the air tonight) and a beach boys cover a few months back (in my room). The Disney covers are so much fun. Check out the little mermaid medley and the moana medley to start with. And the always give us a show for ye Olde hallows eve and Christmas.

Thank you ladies for a priceless reaction to Voice Play. Please do a reaction video to Voice Plays cover " Dream On " originally by Aerosmith. Also " Carry On Wayward Son " originally by Kansas. Voice Play knocks them out of the ball park. They are known as The Theater Kids of a capella & you can see why. They don't always dress up but when they do, they go all out. Their attention to detail is second to none. Geoff ( Jeff ) Castallucci the bass singer of the group has his own channel. When he sings he almost always has his 3 or 4 clones with him. He harmonizes with himself beautifully. You will love his cover of " Shenandoah ". Please put these suggestions on your list.

Edit: VoicePlay fans are often known as "VoicePlayers" :D Also, recommendations: Nothing Else Matters, Seven Nation Army, and Enemy. _Bangers_ all. Son of edit (I keep thinking of things, sorry) -- Geoff mostly sang/called himself a baritone with a bass range until the early 20-teens. He started delving into deep bass after being on the Sing-Off.

Hello ladies. I imagine by now you have had a thousand mentions of some of VoicePlay's best recent hits... Dream On, In The Air Tonight, Nothing Else Matters. And they are all good. Trust me, they put everything into each release. But there is one that will hit you deep in the feels. Should you choose to watch this one make sure you have a box of Kleenex on hand. Two if not all three of you will be crying before it is over. The song is a cover of Bonnie Rait's "I Can't Make You Love Me" and to me, despite it being completely different, it is one of their top 10 ever. Keep up the good work in your reactions and welcome to the A Capella dreamland.

I like that they have J staring out across the water at the beginning. He’s been away (in the US Navy) and now he’s come back. The rap was added and some hints to his being in the military (ops, etc). One of my favorite parts is when the rhythm of the rap changes and in the background the others are singing “THIS IS WAR”. Previously they did a cover of My Mother Told Me (also associated with the video game Assassin’s Creed) J was still a permanent member of the group. The makeup and a lot of the costuming is from MMTM. Among their tattoos are runes spelling out VoicePlay. Layne (beatboxer ) did the arrangement and Eli (bald rock god) the amazing backgrounds in Unreal Engine used in the film industry. It was filmed, not green screen, but at a studio with immense (Full wall!) LED screens. (And the AC was out and they were in Furs!)🥵 The music during the outro is from the karaoke track. As a patron I get to hear the karaoke track each time which is often a beautiful piece of music on its own. You always want to wait at least until the Patreon roll starts because sometimes they add little Easter eggs. Layne, the beatboxer, and Geoff (Jeff), the bass, met in middle school, and released their first album under a different group name when they finished high school. Between them they do the arrangements for about 90% of the videos they release. Generally whoever does the arrangement is responsible for the entire production with some exceptions. Eli (Ellie) has taken over most of the lighting and tech work. They are responsible for the video concept, filming, and editing, as well as sourcing out costumes and make up if necessary and doing the sound editing. They send it off for a final polish to Ed Boyer who also does Pentatonix and I believe Home Free as well. VoicePlay has to have a lot of patrons because they are completely self produced. They do not have a contract with anyone. If you are going to cover them, I will subscribe. 😊Geoff recently released I See Fire from the second hobbit movie. I’ll add a spoiler. He likes to write for four and five part harmonies and covers all the lines himself and almost always films a version of himself for each part. In that production you might not be able to tell. Many people think it’s a group but it’s all him😊. They do more “conventional” singing as well, but they are known as the “theater kids of a cappella” for a reason. They all worked either at Disney, Universal studios or both and they do love to get into their work! Update: I wrote the above before you started your discussion. Geoff did do Rains of Castamere earlier in the year. 👑

Also to answer your question there is a very slight age difference but not enough for it to matter. Geoff is 42 and Tim is 41. From what I have seen they both have very similar ranges and their base voices simply sound different. Geoff is able to get a more round and fuller bass so when he hits the notes they simply sound deeper even though Tim, if I remember correctly, is more experienced.

The song VoicePlay covered was done by Miracle of Sound (artist) who has done various editions of Valhalla Calling from his own channel. I recommend the trio version with Payton Parrish and Eric Halloway. Eric has opened up my understanding of octavists and a whole nother world of deep bass vocalists. VoicePlay has changed and morphed the past 10 years or so. I found out about them on the Sing Off Season 4. Been hooked since.
