    So left to right: Geoff Castellucci ...absolutely ungodly human subwoofer with the amazing hair. J.None...brilliant R&B baritone. Former full member but currently in the navy, so he comes in for collaborations sometimes. Eli (pronounced Ellee) little bald rock tenor that can sing circles around any rocker....Cesar De La Rosa ..the baby of the group. Baritone/tenor with the voice of an angel...and Layne Stein, vocal percussion extraordinaire and the wicked violin. Geoff and Layne do the majority of their arranging and Geoff has his own low bass channel. These guys are known as the Theater Kids of Acapella. Welcome to the voiceplay rabbit hole

    FYI Eli is short for Eliezer. My husband used to perform with Geoff’s wife Kathy before her hearing got too poor. Geoff does a super drop at the end of this Xmas video we made a few years ago. Kathy and a few other Orlando-famous performers have cameos. The doggie napping with Mark at the end is my beloved Pluto. Enjoy! kzread.info/dash/bejne/nKOEtsmwY6S4ddI.html

    Welcome to the VoicePlay (and adjacently, the Geoff Castellucci) rabbithole(s)! Starting with introductions- starting from left to right you have Geoff Castellucci; arranger, director, video editor, initial mix, solo artist (well, I say solo...), founding member of VoicePlay going back to 1997 and bass vocalist.... or whatever range he wants to sing, really. He shares the arranging/directing/editing duties about 50% with the vocal percussionist, Layne. Geoff was the arranger of this particular piece. Next is the smooth R&B baritone, Mr. J. None. J. None was VoicePlay's baritone for about 5 years, until he left the group in 2021 to join the Navy; he tends to feature with them whenever his schedule allow him to return to Orlando, where the group is based. In the center is Eli (rhymes with 'jelly'; short for Eliezer) Jacobson, resident rock tenor, character voice expert, lighting engineer, plus occasional bass fill-in. Eli has also done some vocal arrangements for the group, and generally designs the lighting for all their videos. Next is Cesar De La Rosa, VoicePlay's newest member, and the fellow providing all those gorgeous, airy high harmonies throughout this song. He's also their current baritone, supposedly, but like everyone in the group, his range is simply ridiculous. Last, on the far right is Layne Stein, baritone, vocal percussion, the other remaining original member, and then all the rest of the stuff that Geoff does as well. He's also the co-owner of a video production studio, Pattycake Productions, with another former VoicePlay baritone, Tony Wakim. (J. None was actually Tony's replacement) This video, among many others, was shot there. Geoff Castellucci also has his own solo channel, which he started during the pandemic lockdowns, where he multitracks his voice singing all the vocal lines, from that earthshattering bass up to legit tenor range. He also clones himself in video, so that we are blessed with a quartet of Geoffs, singing, interacting with one another, and basically making you forget that everything you're hearing (except the music- Geoff's solo work is *not* a cappella) is coming from one person. If you're going to explore VoicePlay, you might as well make a note to travel over to Geoff's page at some point as well. He a rare talent all on his own.

    Left to right Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci- bass (god) J. None - baritone, former member sings for US Navy Band Eli (pronounced El-lee) Jacobson- tenor (rock god) Cesar de la Rosa- baritone (lord of sass) Layne Stein (aka #violayne) - baritone/ vocal percussion (slayer) Geoff has his own solo channel and yes. He's for real. The lowest note is an E1 (fifth white key from the bottom of a piano) and is achieved using a vocal technique called subharmonics.

    VoicePlay is arguably the most varied and versatile of a capella groups out there, with a wide range of styles and genres. But all are equally good. Geoff (Castellucci) has a five octave range, and has his own channel of low bass covers. It's all him. No fakery. :)

  • @bjspeck4337

    Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci is the bass hitting E1's in this. Next to him is a former member of VoicePlay, J None who was recruited into the US Navy (5 yr stint) for his vocal talents. During his goodbye party, he said he'd be back and after bootcamp he came back and did the lead on Friends on the Other Side, and of course this one done when he was on leave. He has nearly 2 yrs behind him. Next to him in the center is Eli (rhymes with jelly), our rock tenor, incredible range with the ability to turn on that gravel. Eli has taken on the lighting as well as green screens and computer backgrounds. Cesar (between Eli and Layne) is a baritenor with great range and beautiful tone. Check out VPs Dream On and you will hear those amazing high notes by Cesar. Layne is the beatboxer (also a baritone, and violinist aka vioLayne. Layne does some singing but primarily took over vocal percussion when Scott Porter (also founding member) went to Hollywood and has made a good career out there. He can be seen in VPs Halo Theme done last year. Geoff can also beatbox if Layne is singing. Very versatile group - no contracts, no record companies. They do it all themselves and hire in final audio mix, makeup if necessary and are known as the theatre kids. The group learned a lot working for Disney, Universal and the myriad of theme parks in Orlando. Their productions don't look like anyone else's. You have landed here in the rabbit hole and there are a lot of fans that will follow you faithfully if you react to VoicePlay. They have more than 800 videos and not a dud in the bunch. Right now the group is down one member, (but we are hoping the when J None gets out of the Navy he'll be back) Meantime, they have some incredible featured artists to keep us entertained.

    Welcome to VoicePlay! You'll find us fans are a devoted and passionate lot. Definitely check out Geoff's (that's pronounced Jeff) solo channel as well as all the Voiceplay. You can't really go wrong with any of their songs. Besides what's already been suggested, check out We Don't Talk About Bruno, If I Were A Rich Man/ Girl, Bang, and Carry On Wayward Son. One of the great things about Voiceplay is they have a great sense of humor (or a special kind of dumb, as Geoff says), and they are not afraid of being ridiculous. You can see that best in In the Hall of The Mountain King, Butter ( watch the background) and in their Halloween stuff. Looking forward to more reactions!

    I loved your reaction! Voiceplay is an amazing rabbit hole to explore. Songs you may want to consider reacting to: “My Mother Told Me” (because VIKINGS🙂), “Hoist the Colours” (because PIRATES), “The Dragonborn Comes” (because the COSPLAY is on point🐲), and “Dream On” (because AEROSMITH 🤘🏻). Of course, you really can’t go wrong with anything they do, and by extension Geoff’s (the bass) solo channel too, so enjoy this new adventure-you will not be disappointed!

    Every day I look for new reactors to Voiceplay, you did not disappoint!! Really enjoyed your enthusiastic reaction. Voiceplay can does do any genre. Rock, Disney, ballad, pop, classical, humor. They just did the Beach Boy's In My Room, it is wonderful. The featured artist in that one is Deejay Young, this is about his sixth collaboration with them. He is currently touring in Hamilton. While the tour was in Orlando he did two numbers with them. Christmas Don't Be Late and In My Room. For something completely different from Voiceplay, I will recommend I Can't Make You Love Me. It is heartbreakingly beautiful! Subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay!!

    You have jumped into the Voiceplay rabbit hole.... Looks like you've been filled in with lots of info... There are so many videos for you to enjoy.... My personal opinion is that they are the most versatile and theatrical of the 3 big a capella groups.. They are also independent. Videos etc are paid for by patreons. 99% of their works are arrangements, editing, productions and lighting are done by them.. They are known as the theatre kids of a capella... They love to dress up to match the themes.. Pirates, vikings, post apocolyptic and Disney charactors, As others have said, Geoff has his own ,"low bass singer cover" channel... However... That description can be misleading as his 5 octave range gives him the opportunity to clone himself 3or4 times and show how he harmonises with himself... So you can see and hear him singing bass, baritone and tenor all in one song.... There are rumours that he's not human. 😉❤🇬🇧

They do the arrangements, sets, filming, editing, costumes, and makeup. #TheatreKidsOfACappella.They never disappoint. Geoff (Jeff) did this arrangement (Bass). Surprised us all with #VIOLAYNE (Layne) beatboxer. Geoff has his own channel where he does Low bass covers, and clones himself to do all the harmonizing.

    LOVE your excitement and enthusiasm. VoicePlay is my favorite. They focus on the theatrics, so in addition to the gorgeous musicality/harmonies, they focus on their videos. The beatbox/violinist is vioLayne. The only other time he's brought out his violin was for a stunning cover of Warriors (Imagine Dragons) almost 3 years ago. This one was arranged by Geoff, the bass. They do everything except the final vocal mix, and whoever takes on the arrangement typically makes the other creative decisions too. Geoff also has his own channel - you mentioned werewolf - you may want to check out his Halloween cover of Monster Mash from a couple of years ago... he does all of the singing parts.

    Yes, that’s Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci singing those really crazy low notes (E1, for the nerds out there). He can actually go lower. His “chest” range gets him as low as F-G1, and below that he employs something called subharmonics-he explains it on his channel, which also has a LOT of really great music just by him. (There are bass singers who can sing even lower without employing extended techniques, but Geoff’s velvety smooth voice really sets him apart.) J.None was sitting right next to him-he of the silky baritone. He was a member of Voiceplay at one time so if you check out more by Voiceplay you’ll see him on videos circa >2 years ago. He’s around 2 yrs into a a 5 yr stint singing with the Navy and we’re all hoping he’s going to come back when he’s done. Next (middle) is Eli (ELee), with the gritty gorgeous rock tenor. Then we get Cesar, who came in shortly after J.None left. Nobody replaces J.None but Cesar has brought a whole new character to the group-he’s awesome, and you’ll get to know his cheeky sense of humor when you hear more. Finally, you have Layne (or VioLayne, in this song). He’s a beast of a beatboxer, plays a mean violin (except we’ve only heard it twice-the other time was in Warriors, and J.None plays in that one as well). Plus when we get to hear him sing it’s a treat! Glad you like these guys! I second all the recommendations that came before this! You can’t go wrong with Voiceplay!

    And VioLayne breaks more reactors 😁 Great reaction you two. I absolutely love Voiceplay. Only acapella group I listen to. Left to right... Geoff (Jeff) Castelucci - Bass. J None - Baritone/Guest/ Former Member. Eli (ellee) Jacobson - Tenor/Rock Tenor. Cesar De La Rosa - Baritone/Tenor. Layne (lane) Stein - Percussion/Baritone. Voiceplay was founded by Geoff, Layne and 3 former members in 1997 under the name 4:2Five.. Layne was baritone then. After a few member changes Geoff taught Layne how to beatbox. He has been doing it since. Geoff and Layne met in middle school. Was in high school when they formed the group. Their original beatboxer Scott Porter came back to do their "Halo" video with them 2 years ago in honor of a friend that had passed was not long before. They are known as both "The Theater Kids" of acapella and "The Kings of Halloween" because they love to dress up and perform in their videos. Which are like no other. They are not afraid to go out of the box in what they sing... Rock, pop, country, opera, game themes, classic, etc. Halloween they did In The Hall of The Mountain King and Hide and Seek (Ding Dong) in full costumes and makeup. Christmas they did The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late. Geoff has his own channel where he sings solo non acapella. He clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. And yes. He is that deep and lower. In Halo he goes down to B0. C1 in his video Way Down. High and Dry he does the full scale (super high and super low). The reactor What It Do Dave started the "Dragon Breath". He refers to him as a dragon and a dragon slayer. Depending on the song. Dragonborn Comes Skyrim he's a dragon. Other nicknames are Bassmaster3000, Not Human, Long Haired Thing. My favorites of both theirs... Voiceplay... In My Room. Halo. In The Hall of The Mountain King. Dragonborn Comes Skyrim. Geoff... Ghost Riders In The Sky. Ain't No Sunshine. Bare Necessities. The Rains of Castamere. Sorry this is so long. I just love these guys and get very excited telling about them. All of their videos are fantastic and you can't go wrong with whatever you choose to listen to. You're welcome to check out my playlist. There are many others I haven't mentioned. Thanks for the great reaction! I discovered voiceplay last year and I am so glad that I did because they are super talented. From left to right: there is Geoff Castellucci. He is the bass of the group and is responsible for most of the arrangements, but he and the beatboxer both arrange for the group (He did the arrangement for this song). He also has his own solo channel where he does a lot of different songs (not acapella) and I would recommend checking those out too! Next is J None, the feature of this song and the former baritone of voiceplay. He left to join the Navy but occasionally comes back for appearances like this. In the middle is Eli (pronounced ellie) he is the tenor of the group, and he is most notable for his rock tenor. He also does the lighting for mostly all voiceplay's videos. Then to Eli's right is Cesar, the newest addition to the group (he joined in 2021) and he is a Baritone/Tenor. And last but certainly not least is Layne, the beatboxer of the group, who does some singing in the videos. He is the co-owner of PattyCake Studios (Tony Watkim is also an owner and former member of voiceplay) where they mostly film all of their videos. Layne was classically trained on the violin and has been playing it for many years. So that's a quick rundown on the group. I am looking forward to seeing more reactions to voiceplay!

    Thank you and congratulations, I think you may be the first reactors I've seen so far who immediately caught the Black album connection! Geoff is the human foghorn on the end, yes his voice really is that low (though amplified so we can hear it clearly,) and if you react to some other VoicePlay videos you'll find he very often sneaks in one or two deep bass drops like that whether you're expecting it or not. I've begun to think of it as almost a sort of station identification: "I'm Geoff Castellucci, and you're listening to VoicePlay." (Geoff also has his own channel for his solo work that's well worth checking out.) This performance is unusually somber and straightforward for these guys; they have a flair for the theatrical and often perform in costume and with elaborate backdrops, sets and props, but the quality is consistently outstanding whether they're covering rock, pop, Disney tunes, classical, country or even K-pop. Apart from this one, I particularly recommend their covers of Dream On, Carry on Wayward Son, Hoist the Colours, Oogie Boogie's song, We Don't Talk About Bruno and their Moana medley, but you could choose just about anything they've done at random and you wouldn't be disappointed.

    Mr. Long Hair over there is none other than the stupendous Geoff Castellucci, arguably the most impressive bass singer in the a capella mainstream! In addition to being the power bass for Voiceplay, he does solo work on a separate channel, so check him out for sure. And yes, he *is* that good, no effects required (most of the time, he does spice it up on occasion :p)

    Love this one. VoicePlay did this just in time for my birthday. J None used to be a member before he was recruited into the US Navy for his vocal skills. Now he comes back to join in when he gets a chance to visit. From your left, Geoff is the bass known as Foghorn or Dragon Breath, J None is next to him (used to be a baritone but the Navy just promoted him to bass, but he also sings tenor, Eli (rhymes with jelly) is aka Rock God - from C2 to high tenor where he rocks, Cesar is baritone to super high notes C6 and D6 are his latest aka Sassy, Layne is the beatboxer, baritone, and violinist (only done it 3 times in the acapella stuff over 25 yrs) aka Carrot Lord (loves to torture J None with carrots) and VioLayne. Geoff and Layne are the two original members from the days of 4:2:Five before they changed the name to VoicePlay. If you are interested Geoff Castellucci has done a couple of videos on how to sing really low! By the way, they just keep doing great ones. Love to hear you do more! They have no contracts, they do everything themselves. Geoff and Layne alternate the projects - all the arrangements, costuming, staging, premix audio, camera work, etc. Eli is in charge of the lighting, and is moving into being one of the 3 who will each do a project. He and Layne did Creep (RadioHead) just a little while back.

    "When you're a singer and can hit the low notes, they call you a bass. When you're a singer and you're called on to replicate the earth-shaking sub-harmonic sound of a Viking war horn, you're Geoff Castellucci." As you are looking at them, from left to right, you have the bass, Geoff Castellucci, a man described as "the lowest voice in music". Next to him is baritone J None. He's a former member of Voiceplay who left to join the Navy. When he's on leave and comes back to Orlando (where the group is based), he'll usually sit in and record a song. (And the feeling is, that the moment he's out of the Navy, he's welcome to rejoin the band.) Next to J is tenor Eli Jacobson (his first name is pronounced "eh-lee" and "ee-lie"). Next to Eli is baritone/tenor Cesar de la Rosa, their newest member (he officially is J None's "replacement", but as I said, the moment J None is out of the Navy... and then we'll have J and Cesar both). Next to Cesar is the beatboxer, Layne Stein, who is the third baritone in the group. Layne occasionally sings and plays violin, as you can see.

    Ok. Firstly - no, that’s not effects. Yes, Geoff really does sing like that. I’ve seen them live. It’s damn near a religious experience. The bottom few octaves of Geoff’s range will make your ribs vibrate in a concert setting. You literally listen to him with your skeleton. Wanna see Geoff as a vampire? He turns into one in their video for “This Is Halloween” from “Nightmare Before Christmas” And I’m not sure what sort of evil spooky he was for “Headless Horseman”, but good guys don’t have eyes that glow red so…🤷‍♀️ That’s on his solo channel. Other VP tracks you may enjoy…maybe Aerosmith’s “Dream On”? Imagine Dragons’ “Enemy”? And of course, “Oogie Boogie” from “Nightmare Before Christmas”. VoicePlay and Home Free are pals. Geoff has done arrangements for them - he arranged “Elvira” for them. And they’ve worked together. Look for Voiceplay’s “Survivor” to see them all together.

    Welcome to the Voiceplay rabbit hole. Left to right Geoff Castellucci the bass. He is for real one of the lowest bass singer is the acapella world. Next is J none. Smooth baritone. He was a member of the band till he was recruited by the US Navy to sing with them. He must be on leave to be here on this number. He pops in when he's in town. The group uses other guest singers while he's away. Next is Eli Jacobsen (Ellie). High tenor and should have been in a metal band himself. Next is Cesar De La Rosa also a tenor but with a softer sound. Next is Layne Stein, beatboxer and all around jokester but genius arranger. The violin was a surprise but he played it once before and is called Violayne by fans when he plays it. They like costumes and hilarity with Layne and carrots. Try Hoist the colors next!

    The hyper-low notes the bass is singing is called sub-harmonics. Most bass singers don't sing that low, sub-harmonics is a specialized skill in the lower bass range. No bass singer can just do it by default, it has to be trained and practiced in the vocal chords to pull off. And this bass, Geoff Castellucci, is particularly skilled in it. He can not only hit the lowest sub-harmonic notes, he can articulate lyrics at those note, which even many sub-harmonic singers can't do. You can look him up and check out his solo stuff, which will blow your mind.

  • @johndeeregreen4592

    @johndeeregreen4592

    Geoff's low range without subharmonics is still around 8 semitones lower than an average bass singer. Using clear lyrics with musical notes is called phonation... and, yes, phonation even at the lowest part of anyone's chest range this becomes difficult... doing it with subharmonics is even harder. Geoff is the master at it, for sure.

  • @declaneric

    @declaneric

    Жыл бұрын

    @@johndeeregreen4592 Yessir, thanks for that addition. I know the term "phonation," but I didn't think the average person would understand how phonation works, from voiceless to glottal closure. But most people understand what "articulation" is, so I went with that. I try not to get too technical on KZread comments, just to make sure most people can understand them. But I'll take anyone who understands singing any day, you're the type who'll truly appreciate just how difficult it is to do what Geoff does. He makes it look very easy and natural, no effort involved, but we know better.

JNone sitting next to Geoff was a member but left to join the Navy. When he is on leave, he will sit in as a guest singer. Cesar (second from the right) took over for JNone and is a permanent member. Geoff Castellucci is their bass, and those sounds are 100% him. He doesn't go super low every single song, but his low notes are a staple of their music. If you want to get a good feel for his range, which is amazing, I'd recommend their cover of the Oogie Boogie song. He also does some of his own songs where he harmonizes with himself in a quartet style. Sixteen Tons is one of my favorites, but he has a pretty broad selection that I'd definitely recommend checking out. A lot of their early work covers Disney songs, so it's very light and fun. More recently it's been expanding out to stuff like TV shows or games. My Mother Told Me is the first song on theirs I heard that's still one of my favorites. Hoist The Colours and The Dragonborn Comes are also ones I'd highly recommend
