@@shaunranger1598 mmm ive heard a lot of people say that personally. sorta in the same sense of how people didn't like bob dylans voice, or chris cornell (yes, i know, how could you hate that beautiful sound). its a tone and emotion you dont expect and maybe the vulnerability and differentiation scares people away

@@shaunranger1598 -well in the OPs defense I have read YT comments of people critiquing his live voice from the past 10 years or so saying that on some songs he sounds old, washed up, he doesn't have it anymore, etc. But I've never heard anyone talking negatively about his voice on RH albums or when he was younger. Honestly I think he(Thom) still sounds great but I'm a bit biased as well.

That "Runnnnnn................ It almost breaks. It has a slight wobble that almost gives out. But, that wobble just shows the emotion, that gut feeling... If this were recorded in the studio with perfect clarity and stuff it would never hold the same passion.

Absolutely, he sings us songs that he wrote, not somebody else's songs, and when he sings them, he feels them, and when we hear that, we feel it too. Singers that sing their own songs have the obvious advantage of authentic emotional interpretation. E.g. Adele, James Blunt, Jarvis Cocker, etc.

Man, one of my favorite bands of all time. I can listen to them allllll day long. So epic!! Oh, hey, there's an artist from China and this is one of his influences. Really brilliant. Check him out if you haven't yet. His name is Hua Chenyu and there's an Eng Subs channel. Maybe start with "Child" or something like that, but, I think you may vibe out to him. Plus he uses a really different tongue placement. It is The Singer show which that network blocks a lot so you have to distort the image or block part of it out AND pause a lot. Hope you will check him out. His name is pronounced "watchinyou."

There's thousands of covers here on YT. They all get it wrong. You can tell that it's Thoms song no one can give it the emotion it needs. Fair play to the band. The didn'y know he was gonna stretch it out. I think they played 2 'invisible beats' maybe 3. But they kept it on. So thats commendable.

I would like to recommend you to watch and react to Sohyang's best friend Park Ki Young - an absolutely phenomenal and dynamic vocalist! This is my favorite performance of hers: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kYeIsc-nd6TYm6g.html but this one is awesome too, where she shows her incredibly broad range and agility: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pGiu2LR9cre9aaw.html She has newer covers too on her channel from last year. absolutly agree with you, you can't sing a song like that if you don't put all your heart in it. when i hear the cover from this guy from "america got talent" i just feel nothing at all, even if i can deny he has a great voice, for i guess he didn't live something like that, he doesn't understand the pain to live it, and you can hear it when he sings, that's empty, there's no emotion.
