    Seems he has absolute pitch, so it's practically a statistical rarity to find a person with a rare auditory phenomenon, with a rare vocal cord anatomy, in a family with both parents professional singer and musician, with a passion for singing and the patience to work hard from the age of 5. If any one of these ingredients were missing, we wouldn't have Dimash as we know him.

    @@santopino2546 Google it. Studies were conducted in this matter. And I'm from East Asia. You're not seen as special here if you have absolute pitch. It has a lot to do with the tonal languages we speak and most kids here are drilled with fixed-do solfege training when learning music.

    Nevermind the insane range, the guy has like 900 different tones and semi-tones, wtf. And not only a billion different tones but also, if you pay attention, while in-between tones and insane tone-transitions. And he has some of the most insane riffs, melismas, runs, sustains, and sometimes does all sorts of different runs and notes while in one sustained breath.

    Dimash has confirmed that he has very long vocal cords. He has also been training for 20 years. He plays multiple instruments and composes as well. His voice teachers say that when he reached puberty and added the deeper notes to his range, he never lost the high range he sang as a child.

    If you listen to a few more Dimash songs you'll find that within his most commonly accessed range (F2 to C6) he can sing opera, broadway, rock, pop, R&B -- in every register. And rap. And then there's Kazakh traditional techniques. And he can switch between these from one phrase to the next and often from one note to the next. He is the poster child for vocal technique and, more importantly, how having technique can make you a better presenter of the emotions and meaning of the song.

    I think it's a little dishonest to claim that Dimash can sing opera in that range and in every register as we've never once seen him sing an actual opera as a baritone or countertenor. To be honest - I've personally never seen him singing an actual tenor part either - but if he was offered a job in the Kazakh National Opera I assume he is a gifted enough operatic tenor to warrant being called such. To be able to sing opera in a certain register, you must be able to reach adequate volume to project your voice over the various accompanying instruments. To me, that's the definition of opera singing: reaching a level of audibility and clarity that you can be intelligibly heard over an orchestra, all the while maintaining an pleasurable timbre. I'm a huge fan of Dimash, but with the knowledge we as listeners have, it's not reasonable for us to conclude anything but the fact that he is a fantastic crossover singer possessing a hugely varied toolbox of expressions influenced by pop, rock, Western classical, traditional Middle Asian , and god-knows-how-many other styles of music. I'm not making this comment with any sort of pejorative connotation, as I don't think that operatic singing is above the other stylistic schools in any sort of manner. Opera is just a style of vocalization that is real loud and clear, and singers typically have very limited operatic range compared to their pop range. Comparing microphone singing (i.e. pop, rock, crossover, even broadway) with unamplified opera is like comparing tennis and squash. While excelling in either category requires a very similar skillset on the macro scale ( the macro scale being for an example "Someone who excels in sports -> Someone who excels in ball sports -> Someone who excels in racket sports"), the differences between the rulesets of both games make it so that on a micro scale ("A beginner player of racket sports -> An intermediate player of racket sports -> An expert player in one of the sports of squash/tennis") the higher a level you reach in one game, the more pronounced the rift of game-specific theoretical knowledge and mechanical skill gets between the two playerbases. I guess Dimash is like a world-class Padel (a hybrid racket sport combining elements of squash and tennis) player - it's really hard to make an assessment of where his skills sit in the grand scheme of things, in the similar-but-not-quite-the-same-game category. It's near impossible to draw the lines of comparison between an elite Padel player and the behemoths of racket sports likes of Jahangir Khan or Roger Federer's, as all of them are playing by an entirely different rulebook and aren't facing the same field of opponents. I'm not saying that you have to be a Pavarotti or a Caruso to be counted as a operatic singer, but for a vocalist in the KZread era, a single recorded unamplified aria would probably help with the classification.

  • @ubervocal8777

    @ubervocal8777

    3 жыл бұрын

    I understand and agree with your comment about the special requirements to be considered as an "opera singer". Just because you sing "Nessum Dorma" does not mean you sang it operatically. Opera requires specific vowels, vocal timbre, vibrato and the formant that will enable the voice to carry. It takes years to develop the necessary skills, lung capacity and musculature. I have not been able to find a performance of Dimash in an opera nor where he has publicly performed an aria without a microphone. I suspect that one or both of these have happened but it would have been earlier in his career in Kazakhstan and we have limited information and videos from that era. I do not believe that Dimash could step on the stage to perform in a leading role in a full opera production without weeks of serious preparation, given the taxing demands of the artform.

  • @ubervocal8777

    @ubervocal8777

    @@albux That said, there is sufficient evidence of his operatic ability. To wit: Dimash trained in opera and classical singing for four years at Aktobe Music College prior to attending university for his degree in pop music. I have no reason to doubt he actually trained operatically as the completion of his degree there led to the offer for a position in the opera in Kazakhstan and he lists several operatic performers (Pavarotti among them) as inspirations. Dr. Marc Reynolds is a professor of music and an opera director at a university in Texas. He reviewed/analyzed "Ogni Pietra" and commented that he believes that Dimash could sing opera to be heard without a microphone over an orchestra. Dimash has been reviewed by a number of other opera singers with praise for his voice quality (from an operatic perspective) across his range on his performance of "Ogni Pietra". Note that in "Ogni" he switches up so that he is mostly, but not always in operatic mode, choosing to sing straight/no vibrato on the short words. There are some clips on KZread that give brief glimpses into his operatic voice like his lesson with a Chinese vocal coach practicing messa di voce, his impromptu rendition of "Besame Mucho" with Andrea Bocelli or singing "O Sole Mio" in between takes of a photo shoot. Last month, someone posted a duet from his college recital with piano. All of these performances are without a microphone. I have heard him in person at his New York City concert and while that was with a microphone, I was about 12 feet away the entire time. In an instant, he could swell his voice to fill the arena. That was not due to someone on the soundboard but rather Dimash switching into operatic mode.

    Dimash sang in the female section of the choir in middle school because they were short singers. He did not lose any of those high notes after going through puberty. When he went to a music & arts high school where he was classically trained as a baritone the female section of the choir needed help so he sang soprano with them. His natural undeveloped range is 4 to 4.5 octaves according to his high school voice teacher.

    Greetings from Baku, Azerbaijan. I've listened 100+ reaction only on Dimash within the last 10 days. Yours has been the most informative and detailed indeed. Also Emre Yücelen from Turkey. Thanks a lot for that.

    Dimash still has vocal coaches, and is nervous in front of them! There is a video clip, quite recent, showing his teacher teaching him a new technique and him getting it! "if you follow from this version of SOS, and keep listening to successive performances, he is always working on his vocal range and ability. Recent performance of Stranger features him suddenly dropping to a gorgeous deep resonant bass, without vocal fry, it's astonishing and enables him to tell the story of the song so effectively! It's like the sound of the Elders telling the story of Ancient Times.. Goosebumps, chilling stuff! Greetings from Cape Town South Africa

    I liked all the information here but I actually would have preferred to watch your initial reaction with you breaking down what is going on as he’s doing it. That way we get to enjoy the initial shock like we had, while also being able to learn what he’s actually doing while he’s doing it. That’s just my opinion! :)

    During my time in one of my old bands, Damnation Angels (2009-2010), I had a G0 to C6(D6) dramatic tenor range, although the D6 was inconsistent and only hit around 5 times (singing Lost Horizon - Highlander). Unfortunately since a polyp removal in 2010 (I was told it was unrelated to singing due to no accompanying nodes or related inflammation) I haven't been able to practice very often at full volume due to living situations, so spent my time working on weaknesses I felt I had instead of range, which now sits at around E1-A5. I am investing in finally building my own vocal isolation booth in a few months so hoping I can get back up to that D6, but very much aware of the scar tissue that is now there, albiet a very small amount thanks to the laryngologist and cold steel surgeon I had (Julian McGlashan from the UK who works with Cathrine Sadolin) and his team. If I have one takeaway for any vocalists here from a horrible year of not knowing if I would ever be able to sing again, it is how delicate your vocal cords are and how easily your voice can be lost. If you have issues or pain then seek someone out and definitely don't just try and keep singing. There are only a few vocal tutors I would trust, know what they are talking about, and actually go out on stage and do it themselves. Mary is one of them 👍🤘

    Hey, so cool to meet you here! 🤘🤘 Sounds like a really terrible experience, but seems like you're handling it great. I wish you all the best for working on your range again and thanks for the tip! I share the living situation issue btw, will have to find a solution for that too haha

    Аружан Мырзатай 19 часов назад Айыма Дуланбаева Профессиональный тренер по вокалу из США Мэри Циммер посмотрела одно из выступлений Димаша Кудайбергена на конкурсе «I am a singer» в Китае и была поражена вокальными способностями нашего соотечественника, передает корреспондент МИА «Казинформ». _ Мэри Циммер ведет личный блог на KZread, в котором дает профессиональную оценку выступлениям различных исполнителей. Оценить выступление Димаша ее убедили многочисленные комментарии. С его творчеством, как отметила музыкальный эксперт, она не была знакома ранее. _ Сама вокальный тренер призналась, что ее вокальный диапазон составляет лишь три октавы. Тогда как Димашу удается петь в шести октавах. «Я учила пению сотни людей, но ни один из них не имел даже пяти октав. В реальности, почти все мои ученики, которым я преподавала, имеют три/три с половиной октавы. Большинство известных певцов поют в среднем вокальном диапазоне», - сказала она. _ Тренер по вокалу впечатлена вокальными способностями Димаша, которые позволяют ему петь высочайшую ноту - D8 (нота ре восьмой октавы). «Мало кому было дано родиться с такими вокальными данными. Димаш - редкий обладатель исключительного вокального диапазона, а также невероятного мастерства в комбинировании различных стилей исполнения», - отметила эксперт. _ Уникальность Димаша заключается в том, что он может петь и тенором, и баритоном, и сопрано. «За всю жизнь я встречала только одного вокалиста, умеющего петь сопрано в 4 октавы. Голосовые связки человека схожи со струнами музыкального инструмента - чем длиннее струна, тем ниже частота колебаний. Димаш имеет необычайно длинные голосовые связки, которые, как мне кажется, при этом тонкие и широкие. Кроме того, Димаш - настоящий мастер техники пения», - считает блогер. _ Педагог по вокалу отметила, что таких результатов Димашу удалось достичь лишь потому, что он очень много тренируется и занимается вокалом - как классическим, так и современным. «Даже если человек родился с подобными вокальными данными, и не тренирует свой голос, это, в конечном счете, не принесет ему никаких результатов», - заключила Мэри Циммер

    This was interesting, I hope you'll do more reaction/analysis videos. Most reactors aren't actually voice teachers so the few that are are extremely popular, people want this. Incorporating the whole song would be helpful to understanding what you're talking about, along with giving the viewers the satisfaction of seeing/hearing the full performance.
