Vocal Coach Reacts to Whitesnake | David Coverdale | Still Of The Night | Live | Ken Tamplin
Whitesnake is one of my all-time favorites and so is David Coverdale so today I wanted to bring you a reaction to “Still Of The Night”.
It doesn’t get much better than this in my opinion. A live performance with no tracks and a band that is super tight.
The song “Still Of The Night” was the first single of their self-titled album from 1987. It reached number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 22 years laters it was named the 27th best hard rock song of all time by VH1.
The tune was written by Coverdale and is one of the band’s most popular songs combining a blues feel with the band’s harder sound making for a pretty powerful hard rock song.
Today's video features a later, 2004 performance from Coverdale with the audience joining along for all the lyrics. I found it pretty impossible to not join along myself.
I hope you all enjoy the performance and please make sure to share your feedback of the video!

LOVE Whitesnake! I know a lot of people dis David Coverdale for his voice, but when I saw them last summer (2018), they sounded amazing! It's incredible given that Coverdale is 68 years old. We just don't have many such talented rock singers like that anymore. Thank you Ken for showcasing such an incredible band!

Same here. Deep purple tour in Washington. Tommy Aldridge BRUTALIZED his kit on every tune.
David Coverdale is a beast. One of my favorites. Some of his songs definitely have a blues feeling in it imo. So much soul in his voice.

Yes, Coverdales roots are in blues, I remember original guitarist Bernie Marsden describing Whitesnake as "loud rhythm n blues"; Ken is spot on about "Love Ain't No Stranger" and his Deep Purple days; I like the b side he did called "Need Your Love So Bad", which incidentally featured awesome keyboard from the late great Deep Purple and Leicester man Jon Lord.....check that out!

Saw Coverdale this year ... sounded good ... I did notice if there were to many high pitched lines in a row , he’d hand it off to his bass player for a breather on a few lines ... smart move ... he’s 68 and knows how to keep going

@@kentamplin One more thing (sorry) please do not apologize for the length of this song. I could watch.. (and I do...sssh) for hours at a time! The homage to Jimmy Page in the original video with the violin bow on the guitar is great, especially with how much Jimmy apparently loves the song! I picked up my first electric guitar in my early teens but only my good rocker friends would let me play, back then no one wanted a female guitar lead; so to hear this massive wall of guitars following behind that, the incredible heavy engine of drums...what can I say...AMAZING!

I listened to many versions of this song live because of the work in the middle which is very difficult, sometimes he can sing just right and sometimes he looks tired but again you can see that he gives 100 percent as much as he can at that moment and that is why he is great. Coverdale is one of my favorite singers, so much soul in his voice. Great video Ken :)
Coverdale is metal with soul. He may not have the vocals he once had, but he can still pull it off . He makes up for his shortcomings with his charisma and that ALPHA MALE persona on stage. Dunno how you measure what "it" is, but he has that factor. Seems like everyone that came from Deep Purple possessed that it factor. He is no exception. Purple was a very special group of mega gifted performers and musicians. Rare.
Love your insight info and off course all the stories! Amazing! And some self promo! That’s great. This was a top class performance!

I’ve never been a big whitesnake fan, never been a big 80’s fan, I’m more into 60’s and 70’s.. and I am far from a mainstream or hit sort of guy, most bands always had their best stuff on B sides.. but this is one of my go to songs, the guitar tone on the album was monstrous, the riff is the sexiest riff to come out of the 80’s and possibly ever.. it’s just an amazing song

Davids quality as a singer is on the level of the late Ronnie James Dio, the young Ian Gillan; Rob Halford and Steve Perry - unmatched - unique - sadly these artists literally have ruined their voices over the years haven given us so much! All there is left for us to say is a BIG BIG THANK YOU!

That's Tommy on drums! Love your videos!
I honestly think this is for me one of the top 5 live performances of all time. Just this song from this 04' show in London. And I'm not even the biggest Whitesnake fan. It's the vocal performance, the fact that the band is so in sync with one another, and Reb Beach and Doug had their live tones so on point, it really was a wall of sound washing over that audience. Wide stereo guitars saturated in lush distortion and drenched in chorus and tasty delay. Just the whole thing, plus the fact that I think this was the last song in the set, so they were probably exhausted at this point, and STILL knocked it so far out of the park. Just so fucking rad.
Excellent video, as always! I totally love hearing when you pause and show your voice singing the line that was just played. Do we have any hope of you putting out a new album one of these days? Heck, I'll take another covers album from you if need be......heavy on Dio songs. 😉
