I definitely would prefer to hear Elizabeth do the earlier stuff- Burn is an ESSENTIAL album. Live at California Jam has Burn, Mistreated and more that show Coverdale's raw power. The post 87 album production just couldn't be sustained live, and sadly his live voice deteriorated badly by 1990ish. Starkers in Tokyo showed that he still had the low register- Don't Fade Away and Soldier of Fortune are great on that, but his high register elsewhere is often very painful to endure live. Such a shame.

I can't believe you didn't know this song! It's an absolute classic. And Coverdale's voice is as dreamy as it gets.
Around 16:00 you made my day by name-checking Thin Lizzy and adding them to your future reactions list. Thin Lizzy is my all-time favourite band and a huge reason why i play guitar. I think you'll enjoy the vocals of Phil Lynott, who always sounded different compared to his contemporaries in Rock/Metal.

The way the video shows, there are scenes where David is in the background of the scene. Tawny is in front of the screen. I think this is him imagining being in the scene. When the video cuts back, David is no longer in the scene. He is imagining if he was there, what he might be able to say. He doesn't say anything - an neither does she. They are not both there at the same time. My interpretation is that she left when he was on tour / out of the house. My 2 ¢

@Apocalypse2031 All a matter of opinion, I would say. None of them are extraordinary singers and seem to be at about the same level. Personally, I prefer Coverdale's voice, though. Maybe because the songs are written for his type of voice. Sykes is a bit better singer, though. At least on this song.
When he sings that line, "...so I can hold you in my arms" is SOOOOOO good. I was deeply in love with a good friend and sometimes lover when this song came out and it really spoke to me then. You mentioned how effortless he makes those high notes sound. Steve Vai who toured with him a couple of years after this said that every night when they played live David Coverdale could hit all of the notes from the album night after night effortlessly without fatigue.
the really don't produce music like this anymore with such a sense of space, tones are so clean, nothing overcompressed and the mix is perfect.

"Still Of The Night", then "Crying In The Rain", follow those with "Give Me All You Love". Also, there's no reason for him to say sorry. The song, lyrically, is about physical separation from the one he wants to be with. The realization that he doesn't feel complete when she's not with him, and constantly thinks about her when they're apart. He's realizing the emotion he feels is stronger than anything he's felt before.

Hughes (at 60) doing Burn with Bruce Dickinson at the Royal Albert Hall on the Jon Lord Tribute is something special, as is his his This Time Around. Such an amazing voice. Still the best. Backed by Aiewy, Wakeman, Paice too.
Interestingly Elizabeth that song was originally written with Tina Turner in mind, and when David was working on it, the then bans guitarist John Sykes came in and picked his Paul up and started playing along with the lovely chords underneath and they decided to keep it for the 1987 album, looking forward to the vid

I had read that the record label, after hearing it, thought it could be a big Whitesnake hit and then asked that he not pass it along to Tina Turner, but record it for the Whitesnake album instead.

I've heard Coverdale himself say it was written for Tina, but when it was done, he didn't want to give it up. I would absolutely love to have been able to hear a Tina version of it.

Same here. It's definitely a Whitesnake classic. Tina did some covers, but I don't think she would have touched it after it was such a big hit for them, especially since they were a hard rock band. But I wish she had!
I wholeheartedly agree with you that Thin Mints are the best! Another great video of an amazing band. Thanks.
Thin Lizzy will be a wonderful rabbit hole for you to dive down. Some criticize Phil Lynott as not necessarily being a technically proficient voice but oh, the feeling he could wring out of a song. Plus, his lyrics were often amazing. Lots of eras of Thin Lizzy, Job Sykes was there for the last album and tour. The golden era of the band features guitarist Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson and lots of great material to choose from. The songs "Still in Love with You", "Don't Belive a Word", and "The Sun Goes Down" would all be interesting journeys.
