These guys are best mates even to this very day. When Barnsey found out Farnsey had cancer he dropped what he was doing and flew to be by his side. In Aus we call that mateship and it's a unique thing and unbreakable bond! 🥰

I'm AUSTRALIAN and mateship is a great thing - but it is NOT a uniquely Australian phenomenon (although that word used in this context perhaps is). True friendship like this is found everywhere on the planet - but perhaps it's more rare than it should be.

As an Aussie, I don't want you to sell yourself short on the vocal talent that has come out of NZ: Lorde, Kimbra, Steve Gilpin from Mi Sex, The Finn brothers and my personal favourite; Sharon O'Neil. I had the pleasure to meet Sharon in the early 80's, but my biggest thrill was to have Steve Gilpin and Kevin Stanton come to listen to MY band after they had finished their concert in another part of the club where we were playing, and they asked us over to spend time with them chatting about the evening. I'm glad that I had that time. Little did we know he would be gone not long after.

These singers come from a country that tends to cut its tall poppies down. One of the reasons I believe they're so beloved (apart from their freakish talent of course) is because they love music and theyve allowed us into their sacred love of music. We share their joy and feel their emotions. Thats a rare gift and my generation is so lucky to have grown up with them. You reminded me of that when you said it's about the song. Thanks for another great reaction 🙂

You’ve already said that you can’t teach this, but you are showcasing the absolute brilliance of two of the best male vocalists on the planet, and how they can work together, as well as having a fun little sing-off. Fro memory, Diesel is Jimmy’s brother in law. Originally he was known as the frontman for Johnny Diesel and the Injectors, then I think the injectors kept getting clogged up, so I was just Johnny Diesel, and finally he was just Diesel. Although we were waiting for him to drop to just “D”

The thing about Farnsy and Barnsy is that they force each other to elevate themselves to the very best they can both be. They are great separately but when you put those two men on stage, in this duet, they will never sing better than when they can feed off of each other. There is rivalry there but there is no bitterness or competition beyond being the best they can be reflective in each other's performance.

Hi Beth from Tasmania, Australia 👋✌🏼 We just lost one of the greatest and most globally underrated white soul and jazz singers downunder in January. The sublime and beautiful Ms. Renee Geyer (Heading in the right direction. It’s a Man’s World and so many more I can’t recall.) RIP MS. Renee . Renee, Marcia Hines (ex pat USA) and John English were a huge part of the 70s and 80s Australian music scene and I’ve always thought it a darn shame that not enough brilliant Aussie talent got air time overseas. I saw Marcia and John in concert when they were the leading cast members of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1983. John had a spectacular sound with natural grit. Also you can’t go wrong with the twin sisters,The Veronicas and the legendary ‘Powderfinger’ who I saw in concert in 2001 rocking a baby belly and my two young teenage daughters in tow. Yes, they were really that good and I was only about 6 months along lol. Worth it! I’m showing my age here but I was at the Enz of an Era tour for Split Enz before Neil Finn founded Crowded House (although I was a wee bairn then-16 or 17).

Want to see the best Farnsy performance ever? "When the War is Over" from The Whispering Jack 20th anniversary tour. Belting his little heart out & distortion for days. It's actually a cover of a song by Cold Chisel which was Jimmy Barnes' band (tho Jimmy didn't do lead vocal on it).

Fantastic reaction Beth. 🎉🎉 Big time Jimmy fan here, but I also love Diesel aka Mark Lizotte and John Farnham. Loved that you picked up how they where having fun singing together and their excellent harmonies. John Farnham was in LRB Little River Band for a while. The other great lead singer of that band was Glenn Shorrock. LRB are known for their harmonies with Beeb Birtles and Graeham Goble. Jimmy was in another pub rock band called Cold Chisel and joined as a youngster around 17 years of age. Cold Chisel had two singers, Jimmy and Ian Moss. Boy they always harmonise well. Others have mentioned the song When the war is over to hear Ian or Mossy as he is affectionately known. Or maybe his version of Georgia from 1983 The Last Stand Chisel concert (although they have reformed since to tour since)…perhaps look up Cold Chisel singing a cover of Wild Thing too 🎉🎉🎉But basically you really can’t go wrong with all of their catalogue. Also if you’d like to hear Jimmy’s speaking voice check out kzread.info/dash/bejne/pWh8sdl9oJO0fNI.html with a song with Diesel, called Since I fell for you (Jimmy and Diesel are brother in laws as their wives are sisters). I have his CD from the 80’s when he was in Johnny Diesel and the Injectors. So many gems for you to discover. Keep smiling

This is the BEST live version of this song I’ve ever seen, Diesel shouldn’t be underestimated, he’s incredible! And he’s Jimmys brother in law, so he’s FAM! 🥰 And a damned brilliant singer in his own right. I have seen Jimmy live, and DAMN, he was INSANE! Not one to fan girl, but he did reach out and touch me, that was magic! 😂 Does anyone else remember The Tin Lids? His kids had a group when they were young. Now Mahalia is a POWERHOUSE of a singer in her own right. And let’s not forget David Campbell, Jimmys eldest son, he’s got a set of lungs on him also!

If you wanted to check it out, there's a short clip of an impromptu duet between John Farnham and Tom Jones singing My Yiddeshe Momma. While the duet catches them both a bit off-guard, you can easily contrast the two styles and see John hold his own against/with Tom. The segment was done during a live broadcast of a (now defunct) Australian TV variety show called Hey Hey It's Saturday, and in front of a studio audience. I love your reactions - the emotion is just a joy to behold, and I do appreciate your analysis as well.

Johnny Farnham, started out as a teen and became king of pop when he was 20, back in the late 69' through to 73'. So that's a lot of years of hard work and dedication. Jimmy Barnes was brought up in a disfunctional home with an abusive Dad and a tough Mum. So he basically ran wild until his parents split up and his mum remarried a very kind soul, who's last name Jimmy adopted. His older brother John Swan has a similar vocal sound, except deeper. Johnny Diesel is a force of his own and started out in 92' with his album hepfidelity (very rocky blues sound), but my favourite album was his next one released in 93', called the lobbyist, with hit songs One more time and Tip of my tongue. 😘👌💖
