I discovered GVF during the pandemic, and they quickly became a favorite. Lots complain about them being a copy of Led Zeppelin, but I love that we have a newer band that reminds me of the music I grew up with. No autotune, just real people with real instruments.

I think the hate mostly stems from them acting like they aren't a Zeppelin clone. I saw them a few years ago at a little bar in Wisconsin then last year in PA opening for Metallica. Great both times, hard not to love a young group keeping rock going, but the "Zeppelin was never much of an influence" comments they've made aren't great.

Yes, GVF is often compared to Led Zeppelin, but in my opinion the comparison will be fleeting...or should be. They are developing their own voice as they rather quickly mature in the art. They have a definite melodic component that is missing in most modern music, it seems. I hear tones of, obviously, Zeppelin, but also Aerosmith and even Yes, defined by what they want to create. Speaking of Yes; have you dear Beth, done a reaction to Yes? If not, you should. You will be amazed. Try anything from A Night of Yes Music Plus. Also, check out the Doobie Brothers. Astonishing.

The drummer, Danny, is a friend since childhood. Anyway their mom told the story that one day during practice in the garage, Josh and Jake had a disagreement and Josh came into the house. Their mom noticed the pause in the music and then they resumed playing so she didn’t think anything of it. A few minutes later Josh walked into the kitchen, much to her surprise, it was Jake singing. They just picked up where they left off while Josh was inside. I know on a couple of songs in live performances, Jake has harmonized with Josh. However I don’t know if he the same octave range, etc.

Influenced by Zeppelin and others, but they are their own entity. At least there is no Autotune, like so many popular so called artists today. I wish them a long career.

Hey Beth - You might think about turning the volume up a bit. I wish everyone would understand that he can sing in that register does not make him a Robert Plant wannabe. He is a unique genuine talent as all they are. I would love you to do Age of the Machine - it is AMAZING!

"They have this very classic feel. For many bands that try to do that, they can sound dated, but these guys don't. These guys sound fresh and new, but with that vintage backbone." You literally just verbalized what sets this band apart from their peers. They've definitely crafted their own particular way, after years of intense study and practice, of taking key elements from not only classic rock but other genres, like world music and blues, and they've molded them and modernized them in a way that has truly worked out for them. The only other band I can think of that has managed to succeed at doing this are The Lemon Twigs.

If the biggest complaint people have about GVF is that they sound like Led Zeppelin then I’ll happily listen to them. They are so much more than that but I definitely hear the similarity.

But is it really so Beth that you wear a Mk16a British pilot jumpsuite in this video? That would be so cool, I have one when I'm working on cars 😁 And yeah, awesome video and analysis, thank you!
