Karen Carpenter was a rare vocal talent. I never thought anyone could cover her songs the way Gigi just did in this video. Her live Wish Date concert performance of I Won't Last A Day Without You was effortless and even more amazing.

Gigi has so many sides but this is my favorite Gigi. I call it the 80s Gigi. There are bigger and wider range singers than her but Gigi is my favorite singer today. I care more for the beauty and the tone of the singer than the range.

Yes same here. Plus she has the XFactor. And best of all, I like her personality as well as the band members. They're all so funny & relatable! It's not all about the singing, it's being able to connect with the audience.

This is the reason why I've always been saying Gigi is a genius!!! She has such a great ear that she can get the flavor of the original singer while still retaining her own Gigi sound. Since you have a great ear yourself Dr. Dan and a great gift for music, you have the capability to absorb the magic of Gigi's voice. The more one is capable the greater the enjoyment. Dan, I also grew up listening to and enjoying the Carpenters. Karen, who was a hell of a drummer, had such a beautiful, full, round tone that was perfect for these slow ballads, and very 'bass-y' for a woman which Gigi couldn't quite get on the very lowest notes. But besides those few notes, Gigi captured Karen's [sad] emotional tone amazingly--I cannot recall any other singer doing such so well. And, yes, you pointed out how it's not just Karen's tone that Gigi sounded, but multiple others which demonstrates Gig's true overall talent. What a blessing!

I believe this was during the pandemic when Gigi vibes were doing their “gigs” in the garage. This is how IT started ❤

Is it the same singer who sounds just like Hayley Williams of Paramore in 'Decode'? who sounds like Avril Lavigne in 'I'm With You'? who sounds like Alanis Morissette in 'Ironic'? and Mariah Carey in her version of 'Butterfly'? Ridiculous. Gigi is Incredible.

If you havent noticed most filipino singers/vocalists are very good in mimicking (not in a bad way) and the advantages in that is that they can acquire different styles,skills sometimes even the tone of different singers into their arsenal. Their last touch would be adding their "own" flavor/color/style to the song that would make it as good as the original if not better. It happens that a lot of filipino vocalists love classic singers such as whitney huoston, mariah carey,karen carpenters, barbarah streisand,regine velasquez,lea salonga etc. hence why sometimes when they sing you could hear different artists in just one song.

I have to agree with you. The Carpenters are a favourite of mine along with Mama Cass and Cat Stevens from this era. The tone is beautiful, clear, balanced and resonant. For an ESL learner Gigi's pronunciation is impeccable.

She sang it live and Richard was also there. We love the Carpenters here in the Philippines and their songs are a staple videoke / karaoke song here. ❤
