This video had already posted before I was made aware of the #BlackoutTuesday movement, and so I want to pin this comment in support of all of the AMAZING AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSICIANS who have shaped how we experience music today. Thank you. "I Put a Spell On You" was composed by Screamin' Jay Hawkins (Jalacy Hawkins) in 1956. It was selected to go into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as one of 500 songs that shaped Rock and Roll. Jalacy Hawkins lived from 1929-2000. His initial goal was to become an opera singer, but he shifted to later focus on blues singing and piano. He enlisted in the US Army in 1942, and the Air Force in 1944. He's known for his wildly theatrical performances, fantastic style, and being an early pioneer for shock rock. Here's the beginning of a list of incredible African American musicians. I'd love to see more names added! #blacklivesmatter Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Mariah Carey, Prince, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Nat King Cole, James Brown, Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Duke Ellington, Chuck Berry, Billie Holiday, Beyoncé, Dizzie Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Janet Jackson, B.B. King, Little Richard, Kanye West, Etta James, Chaka Khan, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Scott Joplin, Tupac, Mary J. Blige, Count Basie, Lionel Richie, Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk, AND MANY MANY MORE.

She came in a rocket wrapped in a blanket which her family made into the outfit she wore on AGT, with the leftovers making the mask in the "The Show Must Go On" video. @@albertphilippi4371 May I suggest a different link replacement when having reactors look at SJH "Spell on You" video. I've watched your link and quite sure Angelina used a different version/arrangement that matches almost "to a T", a different SJH version. => kzread.info/dash/bejne/oaaC0qpvmdzVm6w.html Please watch this version and notice arrangement and parts. Two verses, then the saxophone break, then back to singing with the "What's Up, I ain't lying", the "I Love You"s, followed by the 3rd verse, then the 'oooh's, to the solo finale. I'm only suggesting this because we both occasionally comment our links for the same reactors to watch. I doubt they will watch both, let alone even one. I think you may agree to use this, if you watch the whole link I provided and compare it to AJ's version. There seems to be a lot of reactors reacting to this as of late, and I would hate for us to keep clashing with different links. You can also watch today's "Put a Spell" reaction by "Modern Metro Show" where they play both versions, my same link for SJH and this same Angelina version along with their comparison comments. I used this REPLY approach, that's YT attached to your name, to increase my chance you get notified.

@@paulbono2675 ,I was shocked, positive when I heard Angelina's version. Only when I heard Jay Hawkin's version did I really realize what genius Angelina is with her feeling and hearing for music. This is a masterpiece from a 9 year old jazz princess. At the beginning of this video, the producer read a note from Angelina and smiled. In an interview he explains that it was Angelina's arrangement changes "Angelina is polite, she called it wish". and we marvel at Angelina's version. I'm just sure that Angelina Jay knows Hawkins original, we can hear that.

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL VERSION (1956) by Screamin Jay Hawkins, and it is in that style she sings as she is always respectful of the original but with her own adaptation vocally and musically. And her vocals both tecnically (breath control, etc.) and for conveying so much emotion are incredible. Hawkins is on the candle at the start with her grandmother (Persian artist and Angelina's mentor/manager) in the background. The more her covers and originals are explored the more she is undeniably the MOZART OF THE VOICE. What she writes and hands off to the producer at the start are her notes for her interpretation of the song.

She is a true artist, she definitely performs every song she sings differently every time she performs live! I’m sure you have seen in other comments that she was 9 when she made this video. But you need to checks out her Norway’s Got Talent performances, which she first auditioned at 7 and won at 8 with 46% of the vote in the finals out of 10 acts, there was no doubt she was superior to the other artist! She made that growth over 5 years from 7 to 12 and now she is a massive international star with the attention of some of the top of the music industry, she was requested by Quincy Jones to sing “Fly Me to The Moon”, a song he arranged for Frank Sinatra, at his 85th Birthday Celebration at O2 arena in London, however, her mother and extended family are very protective of her childhood so they have refused most offers for her to perform and all offers for her to sign with any labels.

Thank you for your outstanding reaction to this Angelina Jordan performance. It is obvious that you are a true professional who thoroughly knows the technical and artistic aspects of vocal music. After 40+ years as a music educator and jazz musician, I WOULD SAY TO ALL YOUNG SINGERS OUT THERE: Don’t try to sing like Angelina until you know how to do it, especially when she belts out in the high register. Take voice lessons and learn everything you can about vocal technique and artistic styling. If you try to do what she does before you know what you are doing, you could severely damage your voice and may never be able to sing again. Angelina has a gift that comparatively very few people in history have ever had. All of her physical vocal abilities and sense of musical style came with her at birth and because her family played music all the time as she was growing up. She is a force of nature. You can aspire to sing like her, but don’t push it. We would like to see and hear you on KZread someday!

I’ve seen a video of her giving a tour of her room talking about her stuffed animals and toys and singing a little bit of Rolling in the Deep with a play guitar. In future recordings of this song she never goes all out like she did on this special version. Voice changing may be part of the reason. Can’t screech like that anymore! Lol

She’s just unbelievable. When I hear performances like these, where the song is coming straight from their heart, out of the ups & downs of life’s experiences, i can completely buy into the emotions. But I’ve had trouble fully accepting performances where the singer hasn’t lived long enough to experience much of anything tragic - no betrayals, lost loves, lost jobs, illness, etc. She singing from imagination, (and God given talent) not from experience. However, for me Angelina is a rare exception to this, with her overwhelming talent-not very many young girls could pull this off. It helps if I hear the song first and then see the performer later to avoid bias. Great reactions from you, I enjoyed them! Thanks.

Thank you for the mention of her creativity. When you see the Screamin' Jay Hawkins' version, you'll see she 'lifted' most of his stylings, however, she should get HIGHEST praise if not for creativity then for 'academic achievement' because she is SUCH a fantastic student of these singers (Gershwin's SUMMERTIME, then GLOOMY SUNDAY) she is an awesome STUDENT at these ages - from Age 3, 5, and on. Good eye to pick up the multiple mikes - after I saw this video for a few times, the awareness of different camera angles (all the quick chops) make it assured they had two filming sessions, and they may have used The Superior Audio Session. Or, as you thought, blended. If you later degrade her for 'creativity' based on her following styles of others, I still give her highest marks for being a student of their styles, and then using whatever tools she has (like stripping away James Brown and inserting her voice into MAN'S WORLD). But frankly, I've never seen a performance SO similar to the wild Jay Hawkins version and she distilling her version to something I far far more prefer. Wow. "Better than the original" is not an overstatement.

It is the most unusual interpretation of "I put a spell on you" is the most inventive style anyone has ever been done. This performance should come from a mature adult but to have a child of 10 sings this song is so original and yet -shows maturity in her style of making her point to this song. Thank you Angelina Jordan - can't wait to see more of what you sing.

Thanks for the wonderful reaction to this incredible performance, Elizabeth. Angelina in this song is amazing. The reaction to this song by Angelina, is a kind of investiture, is the watershed between simple listeners and fans of that girl. This was thought by Angelina as a tribute to Screamin 'Jay Hawkins, the original writer and singer of 1956. Certainly not many adults know him, certainly the only little girl of 9 years in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing him without any fear is Angelina. Angelina is not only what you saw in this perfect performance, she is much more and also very different, at a superlative level for her age, considering that the adaptations are hers too ❤️ ❤️ In this last 7 years, she has made about 130 covers (and what covers!) plus some originals and songs written especially for her, now she is a beautiful 14 year old girl with a great future ahead, you saw her in your first reaction with her, for Bohemian Rhapsody You can react to her 4 public performances of Norway's Got Talent in 2014 (so about two years before this of this video), those performances made during a few months are the her first public appearances, but you can already see what her was capable of and how her skills had improved in that limited period of time. Or, if you prefer to continue from the end, there are the other 2 incredible rewritten songs for AGTC 2020 😅😅 The 4 songs of Norway' Got Talent 2014 that she won “Gloomy Sunday” - Age 7 kzread.info/dash/bejne/lmebtcqoadzMaJs.html "I’m a fool to want you" - Age 7 kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIB9xbOFZcqyn7w.html “Bang Bang” - Age 8 kzread.info/dash/bejne/opd20aRtaarenps.html “Summertime” - Age 8 kzread.info/dash/bejne/lKKkqNV8fq7gdso.html The 2 other songs with which she participated in America’s Got Talent Champion "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"- Age 13 kzread.info/dash/bejne/gIqGubt-m5u6Y6Q.html “Someone You Loved"- Age 13 kzread.info/dash/bejne/YpujwbaCnZfQpKw.html

Honestly, i find that you are the best voice or vocal coach on YT. You are knowledgeable and thorough, detailing all the points to be made about Angelina's astonishing performance, enthusiastic, lively and meticulous. I like the fact that you went back to some parts of the song to verify your value judgment and your determination about her. What strike me the most about Angelina here is her breath control, the power of her voice and its stability. No swing and a miss! I am learning some technical words i need to express my amazement at this little girl outstanding musical creativity and vocal abilities. To dare say that Angelina is a child prodigy and a musical genius is not be any means an hyperbole or a misrepresentation made up by fanatic Angels. it is an exact and factual description of who she really is as a vocal artist. You reacted rightfully to many Dimash's songs already. I hope that you will continue to explore Angelina rich and diverse repertoire that has been assembled purposely to demonstrate her skillfulness, her maturity and her versatility. To say the least, she is musically broad-minded. These two vocal artists are my only heroes. Thank you so much, Elizabeth!

A musical prodigy, Angelina Jordan sang for the first time at barely a year old, and she never stopped. The Los Angeles-based 14-year-old singer and songwriter amplified her voice around the globe, racking up over half-a-billion KZread views, just shy of 2 billion Facebook views, and praise from Time, CNN, The BBC, and People. Along the way, she performed for world leaders at some of the most influential events in Europe, appeared on European and North American television, and quietly enraptured a growing fan base. In 2020, she brings a soulful signature sound to life with her Republic Records debut. The breadth of Angelina’s soulful and deep alto vocal delivery showcases a rare class of musical aptitude that you would attribute to an old soul, and legendary talent, well beyond her years. “I feel like I’ve lived many years more than my age. I feel like music found me. I want people to get connected to my music and my lyrics and to share something special with the love I have for music." Angelina went from belting out Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” to immersing herself in jazz at five-years-old. She discovered Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Armstrong by combing jazz playlists across KZread. At eight-years-old, she won Norway’s Got Talent with a viral rendition of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday.” Labels and producers feverishly sought her out, but she already possessed a clear picture of what her path would be. Taking her time, she opted to carefully hone her voice through countless hours of practice, gigs, and writing. “It was really great, but I knew I wanted something bigger,” she admits. “I didn’t want to jump into it until I felt I was ready.” She got “ready” through a series of historic performances. She graced the stage of the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony and delivered an emotionally charged rendition of “What A Wonderful World.” A year later, she wowed an audience at Brilliant Minds in Stockholm. Touching down in Seoul during 2017, she joined a powerhouse bill alongside PSY and Norah Jones in front of 40,000 people at Muse In City Festival. Quincy Jones personally invited her to perform at his 85th birthday at London’s O2 Arena. Every time she took the stage, she was notably barefoot, which remains one of her signatures thus far. “A long time ago, I was traveling with my family, and I met a young homeless girl with no shoes,” she recalls. “She was barefoot, so I gave her my shoes because I really wanted to help her. Today, I sing barefoot as a reminder of all the kids in the world who need help and support.” Along the way, GRAMMY® Award-winning production duo Stargate [Beyoncé, Sam Smith, Rihanna] reached out, and they initiated a fervent creative partnership together. She continued to write lyrics, compose on piano and guitar, and record. Catching the attention of Republic Records, she inked a deal with the label in 2020. Now, she formally introduces herself on the single “Million Miles.” With lyrics exclusively penned by Angelina, her robust delivery sails over sparse piano on the verses as the track builds towards a sweeping refrain, “We’re a million miles apart. It’s pulling my heart." “Million Miles” is about losing someone you really love,” she explains. “This song is very personal to me, because I had never felt the feeling of losing someone before I wrote this.” With more music on the horizon, there is more of Angelina’s captivating voice and songwriting in store. “I hope you feel connected to the music and the stories behind the songs,” she leaves off. “Love is the most powerful thing though. That’s the message.” Angelina Jordan a decade of dedication 86 Melody kzread.info/head/RD9TwFRt8JyZI
