Vladimir Kramnik counterattacks the Shabalov Attack
Featured is one of Vladimir Kramnik’s best chess games. It was played at 1996 European Club Cup against Boris Gelfand. Kramnik’s final move of this 28-move encounter is one of the most beautiful ways to end a game. What allowed Kramnik to play such a move against Gelfand was in large part related to the positional components during the opening and middlegame phases. It only takes one badly positioned piece to have a bad position. Pay close attention to all the care Kramnik gives to his king knight once the Shabalov Attack is reached.

Wonderful game by Kramnik. I wish I'd had access to your videos 50 years ago when I was playing high school chess, Jerry. You do a fantastic job explaining positional play, something I never really mastered on my own.
First time I’ve seen your channel. Loved it, will definitely be watching more. Cheers
Thanks Jerry, this is one of your best analysis videos!
YES JERRY, Keep spoiling us with Vids, we need this education, you are almost at 500k subs LETS GOOOO
Thank you for the marvelous instruction, Jerry. You are a treasure.
Dude I've been watching your videos for years. This is one of my very favorite EVER. You da man, Big Jer :)

Thank you for watching. 👍
I love it when you upload videos, Jerry because there are a lot of great game recaps out there that do go over lines, but no one spends quite as much time and focus on the positional play and greater concepts and lessons as you do. I learn so much more from these because you don't just take things for granted and gloss over them, you explain each aspect in-depth and it really helps my understanding.
I learned so much from this video. No one could have provided better analysis of the game.
Jerry!! Thank you for doing more videos lately! Really wish you could do one of these daily :D
Thank you jerry very instructive
finally a 25-min+ video of a class player.
“Drops an absolute bomb on the position” 💀💀💀 Love your commentary Jerry 😂

Hi Jerry, it's everyone.
After watching hundreds of chess videos, now I watched this and realized chess is hard 😊
very instructive analysis and explanations! gives me more ideas for playing these kinds of positions. thank you!
Thanks a lot! Great work explaining!
Loving all the uploads lately!
Thank you. Beautiful analysis worthy of the game.
Glad I watched, thanks
You're about to hit 500k Congrats Jerry Love you
Great gamie! Amazing commentary !
My favourite youtuber. Love your analysis Jerry
thanks for the video, jerry!
Great video as always! Although you don't upload as regularly as others I often take away something. When I play a game and I don't know what to do I often switch to my "inner Jerry voice" trying to recall some of your things you pointed out during your videos to find a plan to continue my game and this actually works. Thanks very much! :)
Hey Jerry, I was wondering if you would be interested in making a video about opening theory some time this year. Your explanations of move order and noticing the subtleties always amazes me. As a relatively new competitive chess player I am constantly looking for quality sources that I feel would fit my playing style. I would be very interested in some of your classical game prep if you have some interesting lines you would be willing to share.
I really enjoy your videos 👍
Thanks for another great video Jerry. I know Gelfand is a great player but every time I see his games in a book or video he seems to lose. Poor guy

Well, his opponents' wins over him being worthy of in-depth studying shows that he loses on a very high level.

Watching this 30min video is always worth it.thanks jerry
Good talk-through.
Thanks Jerry. Kramnik makes it look so easy. I've been playing 7...h6 because that's the move from Shankland's chessable LTR course based around the semi-slav but it's hard to remember move order subtleties...maybe I'll switch to ...Bb4.
great game you've found
The feeling when you can't fall asleep and then you find a new Jerry's video😃😀
Struggle for the iniative very instructive game analysis❤️
My first exposure to Shabalove attack.
Nice gem by Kramnik. Kramnik is the best ever!
Amazing
AHHHHH!! IT'S JERRY!!! AHHHHH
Beautiful knight :D
Strange how Gelfand played 28. Rxb2 and then resigned after 28. ... Qa2+. The Queen sac was pretty obvious at that point, so I was expecting him to either resign after 27. ... Rxb2 or to play on and allow the mate, but he did neither.

I was actually thinking the same thing. I like when GMs will play it out to checkmate, especially for brilliancies and flashy endings like this one (with the double rook-queen sac). Some of the really famous games, like the Game of the Century, are so well-known because they went to checkmate, and so you can see the brilliancy come to fruition.
Cool game. Great site.
Jerry FTW
Nice explanation. I am from Bangladesh. Love your channel.

Wow, just wow. There was no escape. Multiple ways of dealing the final blow.
When I watch Jerry's rapid tournaments (10 min games) my chess rating goes up. Please more rapids! Thank you Jerry!
Yes! Youre the Bes!
I love playing the Shabalov Attack and have even made a video playing it as white - Kramnik played exceptionally here though.
Tale of the tape looks like INTC price chart in 2022 😂
