Vasyl Ivanchuk is 98% accurate and funny
Featured is the game between Vasyl Ivanchuk and Veselin Topalov from the 1996 Novgorod Tournament. When two dynamic players meet, the game is almost sure to be exciting. The opening is a Sicilian Defense: Scheveningen Variation, Classical Variation. The focal point in the game is the weakest square in black’s camp, f7. This game is a nice reminder of how this weak square can still be weak after the opening phase, and after castling. Outside of the beautiful and accurate attack by Ivanchuk is a dash of humor with his 27th move.

Best Chess Channel around. No screams, incredible easy to follow and calm soothing voice.

by scream do you mean @gothamchess? 😅
everyone comments that these videos are relaxing, but i'd like to mention that it's fantastic as someone with autism in particular. No sudden volume changes, no "hype", nothing surprising at all - except the cool chess moves themselves! In a world where intentional overstimulation "for engagement" is basically the norm, you're an absolute angel ❤

National Chessographic channel. The commentary is on a different lvl.
More like Ivanchuckles. Love the cheeky knight promotion. :D
Ivanchuk is always an interesting player to analyze, and a chill dude too. Thanks for covering this one Jerry
My favorite chess channel by far.
What a beauty of a game and Jerry these videos are so instructional for me it's great that you've been doing them more frequently lately.
This was fantastic. Loved the analysis on this one Jerry! You are a legend.

Great stuff by Chucky. Thanks Jerry.
Chucky deserves to be remembered as one of the greats. His mind is a bit fractured, and he sometimes plays like a 5 year old, but when he is there, he is absolutely unbeatable. Love you Chucky, and I miss seeing your games on a regular basis! Thanks for an amazing video, as usual, Jerry!
Emanuel Lasker loved second and third best moves. He noticed they upset his opponents. Good video.
As a Dutchy, the way you said Scheveningen variation was so cute

It's crazy, I think in every Topalov game analysis I have watched he loses to someone. Im, sure there are some brilliant games by Topalov too, let's show the man some love, what do you say Jerry.
"Chucky" is one of those players who just sees the chess board in a different way than most mere mortals.
Thank you for the great video.
Enjoyed it for sure😊
did Chucky lose the 10 centipawns with the underpromotion? xD
Nice explanation and game ❤
Nice game Jerry. Thanks for sharing
Nice you covering games from Masters that also played at the World Open in Philadelphia. Injoyed watching Ivanchuk live. Thanks for covering these games.

Ivanchuk is my all time favorite player and it's nice to see his games get some love on your channel. Ruthless attacker and very creative player.
This is why he's called Va-Silly Ivanchuk.
A sweet game! 😊

Jerry’s favourite phrase: “What is X (knight, bishop, rook, queen) not doing?”
Underpromoting is so fun...if you win the game.
Chucky is the Orthodox Fox. I love his bravura style and I love this denouement. Jerry is so cool he’s got a shelf to himself.
Be7 does the same job at the end. Spectacular game

Actually I think Qe6 prevents Q getting to f7, it has to be Ne7+ to force the K to move.

This game is like a beautiful poetry.
Hard to say whether Chucky or Hikaru is the most entertaining GM in my lifetime. Love to watch both play. Thanks, Jerry.
Hey! I am doing it the same way :) - when the promo square is well defended and i capture/promote i do it into some not valuable piece - so oponent need to waste a tempo to capture it ;) - some oponents dont capture - but for sure they would capture if it was a queen :)
Indeed accurate and funny
👏👏👏👏🙏
Nice dynamic game. As a positional player, Jerry, what are your favorite kind of games to watch?
Hi Jerry.
Of course it’s Topalov 😂
Chucky The GOAT
Jerry upload from 3 hours ago!? Don't mind if I do!
I saw Richard Rapport repeatedly employ ridiculous moves like g6 against Hikaru during blitz sessions back in the days, and one of his most brillant game feature a move very similar to g6 too. To me g6 is a very Rapport like move.
16:25 there's another line with ... Kh8, Qxf8 Rxf8, Rxf8 Kh7, Be4 g6, Bf6
16:63 bxh6 and then knight forks to win queen.

The knight promotion threatens RxB mate. So 27. ... Kg8 28. Nf6+ (not sure which one) gxNf6 29. Nf6+ and the queen is forked.
@That1GuyWhosNumber1
Жыл бұрын
While true, if it's a queen promotion, there's still a threat of RxB mate. If you're analyzing 27. ...Kg8 to defend the bishop, with a queen promotion it's RxB# instead of just winning the queen. It doesn't actually matter what the pawn is promoted to; the engine lines all call for Rxe8 after promotion.
@darrenwebb2779
Жыл бұрын
@@That1GuyWhosNumber1 Well good for the engine. In the world of spoofing there is just a chance a human might miss the mate in one threat due to the surprise. Don't forget Jerry was in the world of why?
@That1GuyWhosNumber1
Жыл бұрын
@@darrenwebb2779 I think my position re: "why" is that Jerry was right to say "it's because he's funny," (plus no downside), a way, way, way more likely expectation than "he was praying his grandmaster opponent would hang mate in one in a classical game."
I think one of the reason might be he had the knight in his hand. He has to ask for extra queen. He could have used the dead rook. Funny either way. I would never do that cause i would worry about it not being forcing and opponent having some insane tactic to win the game.
@rolfkarlsson276

Good observation,I think you might be right! Especially if he was in time trouble, which Chucky all too often is!
3:03 but can the queen defend both e5 and the bishop on b7? ...Bb7, e5 Bxf3, Qxf3, doesn't white still have an attack on both the f6 knight and a8 rook?
Why is it always topalov
I thought it was I
16:13 After h6 Bh6 - pawn takes h6 Nf6 check family fork Knight takes queen Bishop takes knight Queen takes knight Then the position is better Comment your ideas

Black would not take the bishop back. Probably play dxe5
not the last
Hey bud
The knight promotion gives black a tiny chance to mess up, the queen promotion does not. So the knight promotion is in theory the marginally better move. Maybe the reasoning is that simple? 🤪
:)
More chucky
28 Nf6? if gxf6, then 29 Bf6+ Kg8 30 Q g5 chase around

Because after Bxf3 Qxf3, the rook on a8 is hit by the queen, as well as the knight on f6 by the pawn.
