I love Vladdy man. He's young and I think he'll get back to 2021 Vladdy at some point. --- Mark did a good job breaking this down though. I hope Vladdy and the Blue Jays see this! I always appreciate that Mark from what I've seen is never disrespectful. It's always constructive criticism and I can see up and coming ball players use his advice too.

FWIW, his old man was one of the best bad ball hitters of all time. Probably ingrained in his DNA.

I think the big reason lies in his Chase rate and walk rate this season. If he can sort out his approach, and maybe a bit with mechanics, hes gonna go on an insane run just watch.

Mark really knows the game and all the mechanics. It was the best move for him to coach USA team WBC.

If you look at the numbers hes been due, just needed to lift the ball a bit more

A batter's swing is half the story, the other half is what the pitcher throws him. Since 2021, pitchers have pounded Vlad low in the zone and with his level swing it's hard to elevate the ball. Notice his INCREASED hard contact now compared to 2021 but the drop in power. The difference? The home runs have turned into 100 mph ground balls to centre field.

Vladdy was hot when he hot into the opposite field alley. That swing was on a juicy pitch, so hard to compare...fastball vs curve ball. He is good when he hits down and opposite field.

He’s chasing more but he’s also not putting it in the air. Also vladdy had the highest ops+ in 2021 so i dont think it’s the ball park

Did you look at the numbers he showed? His numbers in MLB parks were good that year, but he had over a 1.200 OPS. Yes that is massively adjusted down by OPS+ but it is so high to begin with that it still leads to a high number. His legend is built on getting an extra year of MiLB parks. He is a fantastic player, but not anywhere near the player that he looked like if you just look at the total numbers for that year.

The league has allowed or instructed umps to expand the width of the strike zone. You don't chase that outside pitch thats 2-4 inches off the plate and it gets called a "strike". So the next pitch is 4-6 inches off the plate and you swing at it and miss. The league is killing a lot of great hitters with this nonsense. Manny Machado is another one of them. The league has *FORCED* hitters to chase outside the zone.

Vladdy will always be inconsistent because he has long arms. Mike Trout is an amazing hitter both because he has put the work needed into his swing AND because his body is made to hit with a large torso to generate power but comparatively short arms. If you scaled up Jose Altuve he would look exactly like Trout. Long arms are great for whipping a bat through the zone and that works when the hardest thrower you find MIGHT be kissing 90 on his best day in high school. If you want make power AND cover the zone you need a big torso and short arms.

seems to be true, guys with long arms have more holes in their swing and harder to have a consistent swing
