    @@darryelphillip5219he wasn't the reason the team sucked. The rest of our outfield was bad. Before all star brake Freddie was also on one of his biggest slumps ever. We paid ozuna and his problems in 2021 were very public. And Acuña got injured. It took retooling the entire outfield for braves to keep pace but get ahead for division. Without Ronald that braves team record before all start break isn't close to .500

    Acuna only player to have 30 HRs and 60 stolen bases. Only player to have 40 HRs and 50 stolen bases. Only player ever to have 40 HRs and 60 stolen bases. Only player ever with 40 HRs and 70 stolen bases. The highest stolen base total for a 40 HR season prior to this year, was 46. He didn’t just set one record, he set about 6 then broke his own records. Add in most hits in the league, most runs scored, 2nd in batting average, and this is one of the greatest 5 single seasons ever dropped on MLB.

    For anyone still saying rule changes helped steal bases.. Yes that is true, but it was instant replay reviews and high velocity pitching that killed stolen bases to begin with, and for good reason because guys were stealing 50 plus bases no problem. Now you won't get away with a blown call, and don't have the luxary of a 90mph average fastball.

  • @mikekellum6238

    @mikekellum6238

    9 ай бұрын

    I disagree concerning high velocity pitching and replay reviews causing the decline of the stolen base.I believe the simple fact that today’s park parks have smaller dimensions in order to make the “ home run” prevalent is the cause. You don’t allow runners to try and steal if they get thrown out and it takes the bat out of a hitters hand. Stealing was a basic ploy when parks were massive. Baseball used the home run to attract the casual or seldom attending fan. Homers make these ticket holders “ look up” from their phones during a game.

    Unbelievable mixture of speed and power, but the obsession people have the 40/70 number is a little ridiculous. He reached this milestone during the first year of rule changes for a reason; in a previous year he’d probably be sitting at 50 or so steals which is absolutely ridiculous and also unprecedented. An MVP no doubt.

    You make a good point, Ricky Henderson once told a pitcher that if you want to prevent stolen bases, hold the ball. With the new pitch clock, to what extent can pitchers hold the ball? Plus, they can throw to first base only twice. Of course the changes make a difference. They were made so more stolen bases would take place. I'm a Track and Field fan, and some fans want to pretend that the new super shoes don't make a difference. Of course they do.
